Given Daemon X Machina is being shown off now with Treehouse Live, there's a fair chance we'll see Fire Emblem appear either today or tomorrow.

I hope they ditch the completely pointless avatar character in this. It's so unnecessary for these games. Worked just fine without it.

Also, one of the main characters in the trailer was called Edelgard. I can't read that name without seeing Edgelord, lol.

I'm fine with there being an avatar, though tbh the only FE I've played without one is Shadow Dragon (not sure if Blazing Blade counts or not since you can at least select the gender). I can do without them, but I like having a personal character in the game.

Darn it, now I've started reading that as Edgelord.

I hope this is covered tomorrow. I tuned into the stream at times but never saw/heard anything about this title today.

I have to say, between the exploration , more grounded yet beautiful designs, and what seems to be formations to even add more strategy, this game is shaping up quite nice even since the first trailer. They even implemented the cel shaded graphics in the actual gameplay, at least in the characters and that's somthing that had to be done since the 3DS games. The music in the trailer was good too, and considering the great job that they have done in the ost of the previous games and sure it will be great on this one too.

The only thing I don't like is the title, but that's nitpicking I guess.

The title does leave something to be desired, but I'll take it over If, the original name for Fates. I'm expecting it to change before release.

@Tyranexx It's actually still called Fire Emblem if, they just decided we needed a different name because we're baka gaijin.

Currently procrastinating on: implementing virtual memory and synchronization.

Play more of the old games without it. It really adds absolutely nothing to the game. You're not even controlling the avatar character any more than you control the other characters so it doesn't even seem like it's necessarily you in a gameplay perspective.
In the original GBA game, they had it so you were a character but that you're the person who's directing the battle rather than being in it. That made so much more sense!

@Judi: Precisely! I should have been more specific. Three Houses may very well be the Japanese name, but it's possible that it'll be called something different when it's localized.

@Dezzy: Fair enough. The two backlogged FEs that I have are Sacred Stones (Wii U VC) and Shadows of Valentia. I intentionally don't know a lot about them, but I'm assuming the latter at least has no avatar as it's a remake of Gaiden.

@Tyranexx

I'm pretty sure neither of them do. I haven't played every FE game but I think the avatar thing started in Awakening.

Is it necessary to play previous games in the series to really enjoy it? Never played Fire Emblem before but always wanted to.

@Dezzy

Actually, it was New Mystery of the Emblem.

Tsurii

@BenGrimm outside of, I think, Shadow Dragon/FE1 and New Mystery of the Emblem/FE3(?) and two of the Gba ones (uh, Blazing Sword and the other with sword in the title) they're all self-contained with only a couple references to the overall timeline (FE is mostly set within one universe and the stories are set on different continents within that world)

What a beautiful signature.

@BenGrimm

They're mostly just separate stories so you can start with any game.

Thanks guys, will definitely be giving this one a go on release.

Shadow Dragon -> Mystery of the Emblem
Genealogy of the Holy War -> Thracia 776
Fire Emblem -> The Binding Blade
Path of Radiance -> Radiant Dawn

So the only one which applies outside of Japan is Path of Radiance -> Radiant Dawn given Mystery of the Emblem, Genealogy of the Holy War, Thracia 776 and The Binding Blade are Japan exclusives.

Three Houses seems a separate game like the past few released Fire Emblem games.

This game looks so brilliant. A couple screenshots I snagged from the trailer on my iPad:

Love the sleek new interface, love the ground level view and still seeing the square you're attacking, and absolutely love how you have soldiers with you now. They nailed it. This is the next generation of Fire Emblem.

I think the overview look a bit barren compared to other games in the same genre. But that is something that will probably change before release so I am not to concerned.

Fire Emblem always gives you 2 options for the interface- classic or basic. Basic being for newer players.

It's going to be no different than any past game in that respect, aside from being slick as heck of course.

Already a thousand times more interested in this than Fates tbh. The character designs while a tad 'generic' are very appealing. The fields and npc warriors are my only complains, but that could probably be changed. The music is really nice too.

I kind of wish they had done a Treehouse segment on this, but I suppose there will be time enough for more coverage during future Directs. This title was one of the best things to come out of Nintendo's E3 IMO.
