Fire Emblem: Three Houses coming to Switch (in 2018?)!

I'm not keen that you're using squads now rather than units, but I will reserve judgement.

Wonderful, more FE (main series) is always welcome ^^

It all started from Game&Watch.

Yeah I don’t know either.

Is this the first 1st party game to be delayed on Switch? We were told for a while that it would be a 2018 release. Now we have to wait potentially another year from now for it. I'll buy it, and I'm sure it will be great. I just got my hopes up that it wouldn't be delayed after the dialogue was in English.

Did they ever say it was a 2018 release tho, i think that was more speculation.

Appearance-wise, it fits what I would expect from a console FE. The one thing I'm not a fan of is the incredibly choppy animated cutscenes.

We still have a lot to see when it comes to gameplay, but I think the addition of squad units is probably welcome. It'll transform the idea of a 'small group of people' into more of a 'commanding an army' feel.

@jump I think they did in the original ''reveal''. They also said 2018 in the PDF file that always comes out during the investor's meetings.

I'm guessing the choppiness will be be worked on over the next year or so before it comes out. It looks really ambitious, though.

I got Total War vibes from the squad formation thing. Looks neat.

I don't think the squad stuff will change anything about the core gameplay. They still ordered single units in the bit of map gameplay. They prolly did that to make it look less...barren, what with how battles mostly were about 1v1 battles (besides Awakening and Fates, of course. But even then you'd only control one unit at a time)

Definitely looks good and I hope they hinted at the game playing a little like a mix of FE and JRPGs where you actually walk around the place and interact with characters that way. Reminds me a little of the Type-0 war stuff with the main difference that FE isn't real time. Heck, maybe they'll have some simpler action-y gameplay for dungeons, if they do have dungeon and don't keep the "walking around" to that castle.

What a beautiful signature.

Well they listened to what I was saying and added more exploration so I'm happy. Never seen a reason why Fire Emblem couldn't be more of a regular JRPG but just with strategy battles.

Converted from Sony to Nintendo during 7th gen and never looked back.

Judi

@Ralizah I really doubt this. Since it was mostly limited to animated cutscenes, it was likely intentionally rendered that way as an 'aesthetic choice'. Makes my eyes hurt though.

I'm absolutely in love with there being grunts on the field, battles look so much more alive and dynamic now! And from those scenes of Byleth--(is that his name?)--running around the castle, I wonder if there's going to be an explorable hub, which is one of the things I've been hoping for in future FE titles.

@Judi I didn't get that sense. It was choppy, not slo-mo. Besides, performance issues in the game can easily affect cutscene playback (like in Xenoblade Chronicles 2, where a bug causes the ending cutscene to slow to a crawl). I think it'll look smooth on release.

I love how the battle animations look more like actual war instead of an army of 5 people. Plus it looks like you have both unit and squad fights

The squads doesn't seem to be only cosmetic. They have different formations.

@Ryu_Niiyama : That is definitely a plus.

Plus, this appears to have a self-contained story like the classic Fire Emblems, as opposed to Awakening and Fates, in which the "avatar" is considered to be the key protagonist.

@Silly_G I never minded the my unit stories but a focus on a story without my unit only means more character development. Works for me.

@Ryu_Niiyama : I'm not complaining about the My Unit stories. In fact, I prefer it as I like to feel more like an active participant in any story-oriented game that I play. It was just an observation. It could go either way though as the trailer did not confirm one way or the other, and I must admit that I am a sucker for the relationship building aspect of games like these.
