Final Fantasy XV has now been "confirmed" for Switch during Gamescom this year. While they didn't outright say the Switch would get it, they said "a console that sounds like Twitch" would get it, which basically says "Switch" honestly.
Now the only question is what version is coming, and what kind of visual/performance sacrifices must be made in order for Switch to receive the game.
What do you think of it?

@MegaTen We'll just have to see. I think if they drop it to 720p (lower for portable) and cut out a lot of graphical effects when docked, it can run the full console experience. I'll most likely be wrong, but miracles can happen.
@Tasuki I would definitely be Twitching with laughter if that's the case.

I'm not too convinced that this will be a XV port. It would be awesome if it was (read: a port based on the PS4/XBO versions), but I think it's more likely that we'll see a related side-game or a quasi-sequel/prequel of sorts. Square Enix previously announced the "Final Fantasy XV Universe" series, so they clearly intend to expand the game with other projects, as they've already done.
Either way, I really don't think we would be seeing the Pocket Edition on Switch.
If that supposed port has the mobile version's graphics, you can count me officially out. Though, I'd be very positively surprised if the console graphics made it onto Switch, which I deem very unlikely.

I'd be cool with this. It would be odd considering Nintendo has NEVER gotten a main Final Fantasy game after VI but at least it would be one of the better ones.
And yes, I have no doubt XV is on the better half of main FF releases. Between NES JRPGs, VIII, parts of X, XIII and 2 MMOS, it is not a stretch to say that.
For me, Miitopia >>>>> FF XV.
Wether FF XV released on Switch or not, I still choose Miitopia better than FF XV.
Just not a good Roman Number Final Fantasy series.

Wouldn't Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings for the DS count as a main Final Fantasy game though, seeing as it is a sequel that shares the same numbering?
I mean I get what you mean, but I'm being pedantic. =P
If they can port Skyrim to the switch, then they can port FF15 aswell.
Would be of course more work then to just port the pocket version, but i am hopeful.

Skyrim is one of my favorite games ever, but that is demonstrably untrue. FFXV has much floofier hair but is much less finished than TES V. It's one of the best looking games ever made and pushes the PS4 to its limit, I doubt it could run on Switch without a dramatic retooling of the core programming.
I suspect we'll get a Switch edition of the Pocket Edition, with Square beefing up some of the gameplay elements, such as cooking and combat, that they've apparently simplified for mobile. At least, I hope that's what they do. Er, I actually like the new art style - Final Fantasy has a long history of chibi sprites, so it seems churlish to complain that they're not photorealistic. It helps that I haven't played FFXV on PS4, though.
Maybe you can switch between visual styles, sort of like the way FE Warriors has customizable optimization for rez and fps, and Dragon Quest has the retro and modern visual alts? Maybe not possible, but it would add a huge appeal to a port where downgrades would have to take place.
It will almost certainly be the Pocket Edition. For clarity, the pocket edition will be released in episodes on Mobile. An educated guess would be that a Switch version would be the full set on a single cartridge. The full fat FFXV on Switch would be an impossible undertaking. I don't think SE really has the time and inclination. Personally, that game is out and done. Let's hope for new IP instead and enjoy the pocket edition if you don't own another console/PC.
The odds of getting the full version are almost non-existent imo.
No way would it work without heavy optimisation and downgrading. They could barely get it running properly on the PS4. So that would mean they're effectively making 3 different versions of the same game. And the Switch version would almost definitely sell the fewest of the 3.
It'll be the pocket edition, definitely.
