FIFA 18 on the nintendo switch is running on ignite engine the same used on 14-16 except this time it adds the A.I improvments from FIFA17 which i think is great , and despite EA being a really terrible publisher i can say that they did something great for once . People will complain that switch can run frosbite and thats true but i think they made a great port here the only thing were missing on is the slight graphics improvements and the journey but we have all the other features and for the first time we have FUT which is incredible and i always dreamt of playing career mode on the go. Its my first time ever seeing people online excited to buy it thanks to the great protability + 1080P docked is awesome. Guess i will on skyrim(triple dipping) FIFA and nba for the rest of the year... Oh and nintendo games ( forgot about those๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚)

@mahmoodinho98 Has this been confirmed by EA?Was this Ignite engine the one used in the PS4/Xbox One versions of 14 to 16 or only on the last gen consoles?

@OorWullie I think it was used on PS4/XB1 prior to FIFA 17. To be honest, I didn't notice a great deal of difference going from 16 to 17 on the XB1 so I am happy with what has been said about the switch version so far.

@NicketyNackety Cheers.I don't own either of the other consoles but I did play 16 a fair few times with my mate when I was back home visiting and also 17 a few times on the day it was released.I didn't notice much difference between them and my mate agreed.If it looks as good as 16 did I'll be happy.

@OorWullie I'll be definitely be picking it up, just hope it doesn't cost ยฃ10 more than standard pricing due to being a Switch game!

Here is an interview with the games producer. he says the engine is custom built brand new. Not ignite not frostbite a custom built engine from scratch for switch. Take that how you may. Good interview even though eurogamer comes across as a graphic whore. I think they put good enough work into this to deserve our monry.

@Qwertyninty I read that earlier, as many no answers as there were yes answers in the interview. And some of the answers are laughable. And I disagree, they don't deserve anybody's money. They're hoping people will just accept it for what it is.

"We're using physical-based rendering. The crowds are 3D. The grass is 3D. The lighting is new. And on top of that you'll have Ultimate Team for the first time on Nintendo - and for the first time you'll be able to take it on the go. You'll be able to play on a plane, on a bus, even from just a hotspot."

3D grass? Wow and thanks for making the Switch be able to play games portably, like that's not a built-in feature of the machine. Then read down further to what you can play from a hotspot.

"Imagine, for example, an airline that provides Wi-fi - you'll be able to connect to Ultimate Team. Sure, maybe we won't be able to play a match together, but you'll still be able to connect for the transfers and manage your club."

Listen to this.

" And if you have a console and I have a console, even without an internet connection we can play with each other."

Amazing. Must be some kind of black magic.

He reckons this is one of the best games on Switch.

" I have absolutely no worry saying we've built one of the best games you'll be able to play on the Switch."

Liar.

And Switch owners are hermits who've never played a FIFA game on another platform.

Does FUT on Switch work exactly the same as it does on the other platforms?

Andrei Lazaresco: Almost the same. There won't be any Champions on Switch.

Why not?

Andrei Lazaresco: For the first year we put in Draft Mode, Squad Building challenges, Seasons, Tournaments, Team of the Week challenges - all of those are there. Remember, this is the first year we introduce Ultimate Team to Switch players. We're taking it gradually. We're going to announce more about Ultimate Team at Gamescom later this year.

He doesn't want to confuse and overload our tiny little brains.

From the majority concensus on what people though this game would offer to what it actually offers...many people should be purchasing the game. I still want to see more gameplay but so far this seems like passable offering.

@SLIGEACH_EIRE I have been skeptical about FIFA too,i was sure it was going to be lacking features and look last gen but as it's turned out it has all the modes I expected and more and from what I've seen looks much better than the last gen offerings. Someone posted a video with off screen gameplay in the comments,take a look.The French journalist in the gameplay video said he was surprised about how good it looks.So credit where credits due,EA have delivered a very good FIFA to Switch.

@OorWullie

Agree but some people keep moving the goal post. Everyone expected ps3 legacy edition and we got way more. Who knows in the end gameplay and content wise this might be the best version of fifa. They still haven't detailed what the kick-off mode is yet. So I just think what people are doing now as crazy as it sounds is not fair to EA. I know I never thought I would be sticking up for EA but here we are. The game doesn't release until September we should get an even better read on how this version stack up.

@OorWullie That's a Spanish journalist and most of the footage is out of focus. Looks no better than FIFA 13 on Wii U.

@SLIGEACH_EIRE I got mixed up there,I had this guys tweet in my head when I wrote that.I used to live in France and have worked in Spain so I wouldn't get them confused

Translated - "I just played the Switch version just now: it's a nice surprise.FIFA Switch: this is exactly the same as on PS4 and One with a faster pace and slightly less beautiful (lights) "

The parts in that video that aren't out of focus tell me enough that there's an improvement over last gen.You can tell just from the crowd animation I think.If guys who have actually played the game are saying it looks good then I have no reason to doubt them.Not as good lighting,some missing animations,no story mode,no FUT champions.3 of those 4 are very minor things.It's 1080p HD docked,it's 60fps,it has all the online modes the others have,it has new modes tailored to Switch that aren't aimed at kids and it's all on an engine built exclusively for Switch.They've gone beyond what we we all thought so I find any criticism they're getting for this to be clutching at straws.

Yeah i progressively changed my mind about this with new informations coming out. This can be a good sign and a good starting point (combined with NBA 2K, MH & DQ for example) about third parties for Switch

@OorWullie I was looking at the crowd. It looks pretty much the same to me, maybe incremental improvements. The animation of the players does look smoother alright.

There's more though than FIFA to this. This suggests that we won't be getting any other games from EA. And that EA see the Switch as nothing more than a handheld. Sure they can call it a custom engine. They only need modify the Ignite engine and they can call it that. Plus, this could be the engine they use going forward, not a version of Frostbite next year.

@SLIGEACH_EIRE It's all going to come down to sales in the end.If it's only a moderate success then the best we can probably hope for is a Legacy Edition next year.If it sells well though then I imagine we'll see one or 2 other IP from them.If those also do well then maybe they'll get the Frostbite engine running on Switch to make other ports easier.Lots of ifs and maybe's I know.Lets just hope this version does well.I'll do my part buying it day one and I may even be convinced to spend some money on UT.

@Qwertyninty the EA that i know will never make a custom engine , its just a modified version of ignite engine

mahmoodinho98

Qwertyninty

@mahmoodinho98

Probably... I think they could have use either one as a base. What they are saying is that the engine was Custom built to take advantage of switch. Assuming all is true this is a very good thing. Not a crappy down port of the ps4/xb1 frostbite that runs 30fps.
