Yes, you need the DLC to experience the complete story. So buy the upcoming royal edition in March or just wait until they release a complete edition at the end of the year.
Respect to them for continuing to try and fix the problems I had seen on news sections plot holes had been addressed as best they could and improvements to later chapters and I can't comment as to what difference they make to my opinion as I haven't played it since (and likely won't as I have so much else to play I can't really sink that much time into a game I found so so in the first place) but in years to come we all might be more forgiving of the plot.
Still won't like the combat system though I mean don't get me wrong I'm not saying let's go back to turn based/ATB for every jrpg but I really couldn't get into FF15s system.
Without knowing the ins and outs of why it happened its clear this was a rushed game that just fell well below the standards people hold the series to
It's a relatively old game now so the price of the royal edition will probably drop quite fast. If you wait a few months after it's out and get it for half the price, that'd be a bargain.
You should've done what I did and sell it as soon as you finished playing it.
That's always the best thing to do with a game that has a lot of DLC coming. There's nearly always another edition of the game down the line.
I've now done that with FFXV, Witcher 3, Dark Souls 3, Bloodborne. And I bought the complete edition versions all at less than full price. It's definitely the way to go.
@Oblique That's beautiful! I own a few Amano art books, but I didn't realize he was still drawing for Squeenix. This would be the ideal cover for a Switch port, for sure!
