Topic: Fast RMX - Rubberband AI ruining game for me!

Not sure if anyone else is having this trouble...But the AI is completely killing the game for me, the first couple of cups weren't too bad but the last few have been complete pains - baring in mind I am playing a cup called "novice" and have played many fast moving racing games before, the AI is just completely out there and making the game virtually unplayable...

I first noticed the issue when I was in the fastest boosting machine...full boost, flat, straight bit of track - full boost, 700+ mph - and in 1st place, then OUT OF NOWHERE 2nd place SHOOTS past me around 300-400+mph faster than me (baring in mind I am FULL boost in the fastest car).

Its becoming such an issue that no matter how well I drive the "rubberbanding" of the AI is just such a killer that it is removing all fun in the game - it seems to be completely random if I will win or not, I can do exactly the same sort of times and barely win a round or come 6th...it makes no sense.

I love almost everything about the game and want it to be great but its just such a killer how crap this bit of the game is - I spoke to shin'en about it and all I got was "Hi, we haven't heard about that issue before. May I suggest watching some gameplay videos on YouTube for tips on how to improve your racing." - so basicly its me crap not there programming >_> - surely I am not the only person having this sort of issue...?

Have stopped playing it at the moment...looking forward to the time trials though...no other racers.................

To tell the truth, I prefer not to be in first place until the very end of the race because of this.
This game is a lot easier having someone else to hunt instead of being in first place trying to mantain your position.
It is also better to be a little bit careful instead of just always boosting at maximum speed trying to warp through the tracks like a bolt of light - and facing accidental errors here and there.
Taking it easy and not being too competitive is rewarding in this game, you can beat competitions with a lot less effort

one thing to remember the fastest car isnt the fastest car when boosting, from the cars i have unlocked if the car is fast the boost is normally low, or the acceleration(which is important if you bump into the walls and stuff)

One thing I've noticed which was also an issue in the Wii U version is your position sometimes changes right before the finish line even if no one passes you.I've seen it a few times now.I would be first but then my position would change to 2nd and then go back to 1st again. When I check the overall standings,2nd place would be several seconds behind so it was impossible for them to even momentarily pass me.I haven't noticed it costing me my position and points yet though, where on Wii U it actually did cost you.

People blindly suggest that Shin'en should make a new F-Zero when the game doesn't feel like F-Zero at all. It neither has the quality, controls, polish or content of an F-Zero X or GX game.
I think FAST RMX is alright for the 19,99 it is, especially for multiplayer (I already have FAST RACING LEAGUE and FAST RACING NEO) but three generations later it's still not in the same league as a 49,99 F-Zero game (that I would rush out to pay for).

FAST RMX is its own take on the sci-fi racer, with the orbs and color-switching being a unique staple in the series.
However, I felt the cpu was often cheating in solo cups, and like others said, if you don't race perfect laps with the best vehicles then you're out of luck even on medium class. What I really hated was that once you crash into something, it not only takes too long to get back on the track, you'll be sent back a few hundred meters, sometimes at silly spawn points, essentially having to give up and restarting the whole cup.
You know in Mario Kart it's fair, the Lakitu comes and always makes you skip the obstacle that you failed at. In FAST you have to redo the obstacle as if crashin wasn't punishing enough.

To all the people suggesting a small indie like Shin'en should make a full-fledged F-Zero that's at least on the level of GX, what's your reasoning? Their ability to make a decent sci-fi racing series with good graphics for Nintendos consoles? I'm doubtful that's enough.

Bit late to the topic, but I disagree.

Although I will not deny the fact that there is rubberbanding - hell, every single racing game has rubberbanding - I don’t feel like it is worse than for example F-Zero GX. In F-Zero GX, I wasn’t able to hold 1st place for long at all, only being able to overtake when I used more boost than others just before the finishline to take the win, I can sovereignly win FAST RMX’s races with being overtaken just once or twice throughout the whole course.

And even if I end up getting 2nd or 3rd - no worries, I have still a huge chance of ending up winning the championship with the most points (because the machines that finish ahead of me in one race perform worse in other races thus lowering their point total). I had one championship that I won by finishing 3rd, 2nd and 2nd again because the other racers that did get a 1st place came in 7th or 8th in other races. The chances seem always fair.

The championships are just 3 races long, so you could easily restart it without losing too much progress.

I guarantee you that when I’m in the flow of the track and I’m driving really well I’m virtually unbeatable - I finish seconds ahead of 2nd place usually - and even if I do get a lower place because of bad luck, I still have a chance.

If rubberbanding is a problem to you, why would you even play racing games?

Racers without rubberbanding would be rubbish, too - it keeps everything exciting, so even the very best players have AI that are somewhat competitive / unpredictable. If there was no rubberbanding, once you understand how a racing game works there is no difficulty at all.

I think the game is perfectly balanced. If you really have trouble winning at all, you might just not be very good at this type of game, which is completely understandable.

I wanted to shed some light on the other side of this discussion so hopefully someone who stumbles upon this page sometime won’t find a few whiners complaining about a game they aren’t very good at.
