Topic: Farm Sim 20 on Nintendo Switch - do not buy!

A little history - I have played and completed all achievements on Farm Sim 15, 17 and 19 on the PS3/PS4 - loved them all.
I got Farming Simulator Nintendo Switch edition - which is the same as Farm Sim 17 on PS4 - loved it.

I've been waiting for Farm Sim 20 to drop in price on the Nintendo store - it hasn't, but thought it would be the Farm Sim 19 version on Switch so would be worth paying full price ... it isn't!
It's a shadow of the game - what is it supposed to be? a mobile port from a few years ago? HOW is it supposed to be the next in the series after the previous Switch edition? (which is a full game)

I am EXTREMELY disappointed - how can this fraction of a game with an unusable interface be marketed as being Farm Sim 20?!
Possibly the absolute worst thing about it is not the user interface (which is just rubbish), the worst thing is that there isn't even an invert 'y' option ... which basically makes it completely unplayable for those of us that need that option.

I even felt so strongly that I emailed Giants software as someone there needs to know that if they attach their name to Farm Sim 20 it's hurting their reputation. Their response :

Hello,

if you want a refund from the nintendo Switch game version, you have to contact the support of the nintendo Shop where you buye[sic] them.

Of course, Nintendo do not give refunds on digital downloads.
I just wasted £40 - DO NOT BUY THIS GAME!

To add to this:

This is the new game in the mobile farming simulator series (and no they never really implied this was 19, it clearly says 20 in the name), so yes this game is inferior by default compared to the version the switch got in 2017.

And to make it worse, this isn’t even a good sequel to the mobile ports, it’s easily a case of one step forward two steps backwards. It’s like they took the mobile games they had, scrapped everything, and instead made the game based on Farming Simulator 15 for pc.

All the little features and quality of life improvements that made the mobile games easy to pick up and play are gone, and are instead replaced by slightly fancier graphics and physics.

Nowhere in the title does it say 'Mobile' Farming Simulator - it just says Farming simulator. Being that 'Farming simulator nintendo switch edition' was the last one on the Switch, is it not fair to assume that the 'next' one in the series would be an advancement of that - when buying on the Switch? 'cos this sure as hell is NOT an advancement ... in ANY way!!
Why would they release the 'mobile' version on the Switch when it is SO inferior to the version that is already available? - other than to screw unsuspecting people out of some money obviously!

And whilst you say they never implied it was a port of '19 ... it has horses and cotton - the big selling points of '19.

@Multirip most people that have played the series will know that they release mobile versions on even years, in between pc/console releases

So... 13, 15, 17, 19-etc are all big-boy releases of the game.

While 14, 16, 18 and 20 are all designed for mobile and weaker systems.

The switch is more than likely not good enough to run FS19 on any acceptable capacity, and they gotta sell new games, so their solution was to give us the latest mobile release.

Don't get me wrong though, the price they ask for it is absolutely absurd, you can get it for much much much much less on mobile, and there you can also get a refund if you don't end up liking it.

They always inflate the prices for handhelds, it was the same on the 3DS and PSVita. I think they mostly do it so they can put them on sale later.

Hah. I’ve actually been keeping a eye on the price of this game, maybe even considering it if it ever goes down to mobile price, but they actually raised the price.

The nerve!

I have Farming Simulator 20 on my Switch Lite Digital Version. When I got it it was cheaper than the 59.99 that you pay for most games. It’s actually not a bad game. It just takes some getting used to.

I have it on my phone. I believe the main problem with the switch version is that they charge so much more, at least on my country, it has a 10x price increase, for literally the same piece of software.

It's also a weird game in the sense it made several advancements to the mobile branch of Farming Simulator, but at the same time removed so much, that it feels more like a mini version of the console games, instead of an evolution for the mobile games.

@atomic77 if you like the 20 version then you should really try out the 'nintendo switch edition' - that's a proper game. The 20 version is just garbage.

@Eel you say that most people who play the series know about the even numbers being mobile - but I have never played it on my phone or other mobile device before (and if the 20 version is anything to go by, I've not missed anything!). After having the 'nintendo switch edition' which is superb, the disappointment of the 20 version cut deep initially.
I have calmed down a bit now after the original anger and frustration of spending £40 and getting something that was basically unplayable. Personally I am writing off that £40 as extra payent for the hours I've had on the PS4 versions and the 'nintendo switch edition' - which if I added them up would be well over 1000 ... so live and learn - whereas I would preorder Giants games in the past, I won't in the future. I'm not goin to boycott their games as the good ones are very good - but I won't ever preorder again just in case I get something like the version 20 POS.

Well, now you know. It’s important to read and watch videos before you buy a game, especially if it’s on the expensive side.

And believe me, the 20 version was a disappointment even for fans of the mobile games. It’s fun if you play it in a vacuum ignoring the rest of the series (and if you pay no more than 5 dollars for it), but even compared to the last mobile game, it’s seriously lacking.

The previous mobile game (FS18), while looking a bit plain, had lots of nice features. For example, the map had visual indicators of what was planted in every field, and if it was ready to harvest or not, and nearly every task could be assigned to a paid worker, you could even go to the game map, select a vehicle and a place, and have a worker move your vehicle there.

If your combine was full you could just honk, and if there were any tractors with tippers around, one would automatically go and receive the load, then automatically move out of the way. (In FS20 you can’t even honk!).

You could have the entire farm working like a machine, but still needed to supervise everything, making sure things are happening. Compared to 20, which threw all of that away, and only added physics and a FS19-like interface to fill the void.
