MarioBrickLayer

Has anyone played this yet? Trailer looks great, not seen a review for it yet though.

Yep, it's pretty good. Not been able to play much, but not noticed any significant problems yet. I reckon it's a decent buy.

It looks like alot of fun. Ill get it eventually maybe after seeing some reviews and gameplays. At $14.99 i choose Stardew Valley instead at the same price.

I watched some Let's Play on Twitch the other day and it didn't look great. The streamer didn't seem to be enjoying it much either. The lack of color appears to be a problem later on with the bullets blending into the background, but from what I saw it looked it exactly like I though it would. So if the the gameplay looks appealing to you in the trailers, then you'll probably like it. But it looks a little boring to me and the game doesn't really do anything new or interesting besides the initial look of the game. I picked up Stardew Valley instead and I'm really glad I did. If you're looking for a good action game I'd pick Axiom Verge over this.

I played this last night for an entire evening. It's very boring and tedious. Whenever you die, you're progress saves, BUT they strip you of your powerups and they stick the upgrades on opposite sides of the map. Which then leads to navigation which in this game is TERRIBLE! It's a compete maze and the map you get is awful! You're constantly swimming around the same areas but everything looks the same. This game is not fun at all! AVOID!

@Biff_ARMStrong wow it looked better than what you described. Im glad i chose Stardew Valley instead. I think ill grab Axiom Verge today after your review.
Thanks!

Personally, after a week of playing this game, I'd give this one 7/10. An enjoyable game, but its respawn rate gets mental at times, plus you have to do a lot of backtracking to get secondary weapons. On top of that, I'd rather have a map than a radar.

I really love this game !! The graphic is AMAZING and very unique!! Here is my impression.

  • The graphic is so beautiful. I will definitely buy this game only for the graphic.
  • I like "Monster Hunting" + "Metroidvania" concept. It's very unique.
  • The game is difficult and the penalty of dying is harsh. You need to re-upgrade your ship from the start. But just like all retro shooters. It takes me around 2-3 mins to re-upgrade ships, thought. Only one complain - Secondary item is quite difficult to find, probably because I am playing in Normal difficulty.
  • The game is not fast. It's the same pace as old shooter - It's even faster that "In The Hunt", the game shares a lot in common. (PS. I unlocked 2 new ships and the game pace get a lot faster - These ships are fast.)

Overall, - If you love Retro space shooters (In The Hunt, Gradius, R-Type) - This game is a Must buy.
As a Retro shooter fan, I give this game 9/10. Personally, I respect the developer that stay true to the genre - it's hard but rewarding.

@ehonglin I am on the fence....like otgers, waiting for reviews. I like shooters, but I don't like frustrating shooters. Or at least if it's frustrating, I like an easy mode. I am very much a casual gamer.

@rockodoodle If you are a casual gamer, honestly, you will probably not like this game. It's a game for a
fan of Retro side-scrolling space shooters on NES-Genesis systems.

Ok. For me there's a fine line between challenging and frustrating. I like games to at least either have adjustable difficulty or a decent learning curve.

From what I've played so far, I'd agree with that score. It's a decent game as long as you realise it's a modern arcade game rather than a Metroid-like experience.

Unfortunately, Easy Mode is not all that easy.
