The 3DS version of DQXI doesn't look good to me. If the Switch can't handle even a downgraded version of the PS4 version on the tablet, then I will probably just get the PS4 version once it dips low enough in price.
Are they coming to North American, i really hope so. If so i would prob never touch the ps4 again.
I wouldn't count on them. You can hope. I've been hoping for Dragon Quest X since the Wii version came out. It seriously would have sold systems. But Nintendo is not dedicated to online gaming and still is not dedicated to its online gaming. They can say what they want but the online service is still no better than it was 10 years ago. Dragon Quest XI might have a chance if Nintendo publishes it. For some reason Square will not publish any Dragon Quest ports. Nintendo has to do it or it won't be done. They say that Dragon Quest isn't popular in the US which is garbage. Dragon Quest IX sold very well on DS. If the others didn't sell well its due to one reason. They are finally ported 10 years after the original releases and interest has faded. If they would port them when they get releases I'm sure it would be a different story.
Still playing 3DS but will have Switch soon for multiplayer with friends. I miss you guys! Adam, Joni, Gavin and the rest of the Blue Rogues from the Phantasy Star Zero Days.

Dragon Quest VIII and IX are marketed well and are AFAIK the most successful DQ games outside of Japan. Then SE doesn't market literally any DQ games on their own over here. I'm not sure how many people bought the 3DS versions of VII and VIII over here but if it wasn't for this site and Nintendo Directs, I would not remember that they even existed.
Dragon Quest games seem to be translated, tested, online-served, and published by Nintendo in Europe. I guess if Nintendo isn't helping with localization SQUARE ENIX does nothing with it internationally.
The only thing that's kept me from picking up VIII is purely the sheer length of it. I plan to at some point, but I need to cut out a couple of longer RPGs from my backlog first.
Currently playing: Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr's Journey, Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana (Switch)
I haven't played VIII much, and I wouldn't doubt that on a whole it is lengthy, but compared to VII, it is a lot faster. VII is pretty bad in that it has a terribly slow opening and a slower pacing still. I'm 20+ hours in and only just unlocked vocations a couple days ago. You would think something like that would be available a lot sooner.
I played through VIII a couple of years ago (on my phone) and loved it to pieces. It is long (LONG!) but I enjoyed every hour. Still the only DQ I've played, but I've got DQV and VI in a folder on my phone too.
Don't think we'll ever see DQX on Switch in the West. Is it still on for Japan? DQXI will, I think, definitely come eventually.
Long RPGs suck. Too much grind not enough game. And not enough time to play them. I'd love to play Dragon Quest but don't want to fork over my money + a lot of my time to play it. Make RPGs shorter! >:0 20 hrs would be perfect

God loves you
@Reginald Yes, it has been confirmed - but not which platforms. I think it's safe to assume DQXI will come west on all three systems, but nobody has definitively said that the PS4, 3DS and Switch versions will come.
What about DQX, though? I'm pretty sure that was listed among the promised titles when the Switch launched.
@SMEXIZELDAMAN: 20-30 hours is my sweet spot. I don't mind if they're a little longer on occasion, but I'm less likely to pick up longer RPGs overall. That said, I still need to tackle XCX, which will probably happen this winter....
I did pick up DQV this past spring from a sale Square Enix's online store was running. Haven't gotten around to playing it yet.
Currently playing: Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr's Journey, Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana (Switch)
@SMEXIZELDAMAN Long RPGS suck? Thats insane, i love nothing more far as games than a long RPG with God mode gear i can farm for. I really want Dragon Quest over here other than just on 1)3DS 2)generic DQ games such as builders and heros. No one wants those, we want the real deal, cmon Japan.
Will X be playable outside of Japan or do that game still require a Japanese IP adress or internet or something? Have heard earlier versions would still be unplayable outside of Japan because of something like that even if you have the system to play it.
I 100% agree with this. Especially based on playing Lost Odyssey lately. It is basically a 20 hour JRPG but longer because so many things in that game take FOREVER. The cutscenes last FOREVER (well some of them), the battles take FOREVER, doing everything in town takes FOREVER. And it's all good, but it takes so long to do anything.
And I love Xenoblade but the absolute worst idea is for nearly any other JRPG to be as long as Xenoblade.
@Reginald Square just throws us garbage like DQ heros and DQ builders to distract people from not getting the real DQ games. For some reason they've been this way right after 8.
I don't mind long games, but I don't have the time to play several of them a year.
What's worse are unnecessarily long tutorials, walls of text and the likes. Some RPGs literally take dozens of hours to even unlock the basic stuff. I also wish the game had voice acting. It looks off without any sound leaving their mouths when they talk, and it also means you'll be spending a lot of time reading through dialogues and cutscenes.
