Any suggestions on how to make a small room fancy? I keep getting residents that want small but fancy rooms.

Furniture and certain blocks like silver and gold increase fanciness

@Ryu_Niiyama as said just above, gold blocks increase it a lot. It might not end up as a good looking room eventually but if the floor and the walls (two blocks high) are made of gold it will greatly improve the room’s fanciness.

You can add more gold blocks by using them as furniture or platforms for other furniture: for example placing a king sized bed on top of four gold blocks. Do not put anything higher than two blocks though (nothing placed above the two block mark will ever register as part of the room).

What's this? New content?

An update is scheduled for the 20th of August in Japan that will see a new epilogue chapter added to the game, along with extra save slots and some hairstyles for both male and female builders.

I'd beaten the game recently, and although I hadn't finished with it by any means (and I'm now giving Fire Emblem some much needed attention), I'm keen to check it out.

I read that on another website, yes. The extra save slots and most importantly the 2 additional Builtopias are great news ! Story-wise I felt the original game was enough but an epilogue might be interesting. I didn't get the season pass so this might be a good follow-up in the short term (should Square Enix decide to make it available outside Japan).

@echoplex @LzWinky Yeah my issue is that gold blocks have an ambiance. so when I get someone that wants a fancy natural room...makes it way harder.

@Ryu_Niiyama Yeah, it's more difficult. But if you need to keep a, say, "natural" ambiance, you can still use golden "cool" blocks to enhance fanciness, and counter-balance the "cool" blocks with blocks of any other ambiance than natural or cool. If your room has enough "natural" elements, the "natural" ambiance will still be the strongest. It's a question of proportion, and you can easily monitor it with the diagram when you press the minus button.

The update seems to be global, I got all the extra buildtopias / hairstyles / save slots etc. this morning ! You have to be on the Isle of Awakening to unlock most of it.

I've got a question about the isle of awakening, if anyone can enlighten me.

I can't get the game to recognise a decent size throne room in the npc built castle. Initially, I wondered if the steps near the throne, and the change in elevation was intefering with it, but I believe that the room is too big to be recognised - I had to settle for walling off the upper part of the room, but that just looks stupid. Does the switch version have a smaller upper limit for the size of any given room or something?
The throne room appears to be set up nicely for me to add the throne room door, and the throne at the top of the steps, but it just doesn't want to register. To be honest, I'm inclined to knock the whole thing down and build my own.

Also, I'm ready to explore the last explorer's shore, so soon, I'll look forward to starting the new post game content.

I gotta say I'm a little bummed about the director of builders 1 and 2 leaving. I was kinda hoping this would become a long running side series.

The limit is 150 squares. Any bigger won't be recognized.

@edhe yes it was probably a matter of size. That part of the game got me stuck because I was thinking too big. I just added walls on the platform to create smaller rooms (which actually allowed me to build a Royal Chamber and Princess Room).

@Ryu_Niiyama I don't know if his leaving SE would change a lot. The game mechanics are pretty well rooted now. I loved this one (all 200 hours spent on it so far haha) but I can't see how they could improve it without changing it (thus ruining it?) completely. Maybe a full sandbox mode (without having to go to the crafting station every time you need something and not relying on gratitude points)? But that would not justify buying a new game for me.
