The multiplayer is ok. And itll be the only FPS Multiplayer avail for Switch...

Oh wait Nintendo Superfans hate FPS Multiplayer games... and yet lotsa you cry for Overwatch.

I recently finished Doom 3. This is perfect timing for me

@JaxonH I think that's a neat compromise. Of course it doesn't beat having everything on one card, but as you said, once the servers are down, the multiplayer mode will become obsolete too. So it doesn't matter in the end anyway.

@IceClimbers If I'm not mistaken, didn't the multiplayer part of the game kind of die almost immediately on the other platforms? But I hope that this is a sign Bethesda will look to port the next DOOM instalment whenever that releases.

  • Both are undeniably Triple AAA games, 3rd Party Triple AAA games. This is no questionable DOOM 3 quality we're talking here, we talk about masterpieces.
  • Both are considered to be some of the graphically best / most demanding games ever, and Bethesda proves Switch can handle them. With this as a benchmark Switch proves it can handle almost any PS4/Xbox One multiplatform title.

Now you can say Nintendo is doomed!

Allow me to mount my high horse for one moment...

I've been saying since before Switch released, that there's no technical reason any current AAA can't be downgraded to run on something as powerful as Switch. It's just a matter of business, and thankfully Bethesda have made the business decision to give it a shot.

You guys had me at blood and semen.

@gcunit I think it helps a lot that Todd Howard was incredibly impressed by the tech showcase when Nintendo revealed it to the developers behind closed doors. I think this was apparently what got him to jump on board so quickly if I'm not mistaken.

"The less interesting part of the game is a free, optional download" is how more Switch ports should be done, if necessary. Well, that and how Xenoblade X did things.

defending the Switch Tax... the game is almost 2 years old.... Missing a level editor... download mandatory for half the game... and the game is like $20 bucks on all other systems.... you defending the Switch Tax is getting ridiculous. but play on the go right? OK
And ignoring is for wimps. go ahead and ignore and avoid the truth... not trying to cock block but call it what you want just cause you're mad I'm talking truths that seem to hurt you. LOL

I agree with you. I was looking forward to this game, now those announcements have put serious dampeners on it for me. Half the game on cartridge, full priced for a 2 year old game and no level editor. Plus the sacrifices in visuals, though that was to be expected. Is there any 3rd party game on Switch that's not gimped in some way? The Wii U got a hard time for gimped ports, Switch should not get a free pass, even if it is Doom.

@SLIGEACH_EIRE You don't have to buy it. Just get the game on Xbox or PS4 for €20 or whatever it is these days.

I think you'll find that lots of us spent our childhoods playing the likes of GoldenEye, Turok, Quake, Perfect Dark and - oh yeah - DOOM 64 on our N64's! Hate the genre? - far from it...some of us are the original FPS multiplayer fans!

Both Doom and Wolfenstein 2 interest me far more than Skyrim. I hoping they have Ninty themed costumes for the Nazi and demons.

Haha! Imagine: "Scan a compatible amiibo figure to turn all demons in to Bowser's minions!" ..or turn Wolfenstein's enemies in to Waluigi's Third Reich!

Then you wouldn't have bought this game anyway, so who cares?

Don't hate me because I'm bnahabulous.

As someone who has clocked over 50 hours in DOOM on PC, I am very much considering double dipping. I barely touched MP and only dabbled a little in Snapmap, so their omissions (fine, MP is in but not worth the frickin' GB's man) don't bother me at all.

As long as the excellent campaign and the arcade mode are in their I'll happily plonk down the price of entry to play this gem on the downstairs TV or in handheld. I mean, it's f'ing DOOM 2016. Handheld.

And Wolfenstein, oh yeah baby. I played through The New Order and The Old Blood several times as well, I might actually switch platforms (hah!) for the sequel now.

I was thinking more of Nazis wearing Mario caps...I can't imagine why Nintendo would have a problem with that.

I borrowed and played through Wolfenstein 3D and Doom on the SNES.

I still have Doom 64, GoldenEye, Perfect Dark, and Quake 1 & 2 fully boxed for the N64 and played the heck out of them. GoldenEye and Perfect Dark were some of the best times I've ever had on a Nintendo console.
I wish I still had Turok 1+2+3+Rage Wars, Hexen, and Duke Nukem 64 too. Those were good times on the N64!

One generation later (Gamecube) we got multiple Metroid Prime, TimeSplitters, Call of Duty, and Medal of Honor games; and Geist.

On Wii GoldenEye boomed again and Red Steel 1 & 2 revived the genre somewhat,

And on Wii U ZombiU, Black Ops 2 and CoD: Ghosts had FPS fans hooked.

There was always an audience for FPS on Nintendo.

I'm surprised, but glad that id Software is making the Switch port themselves.

Yeah, the Switch fairly easily wins in terms of quality and quantity

Wii U Oct-Dec 2013 third party:
Arkham Origins, AC:Black Flag, CoD Ghosts, Deus Ex HR

Switch Oct-Dec 2017 third party:
Skyrim, LA Noire, Doom, RE Revelations, FIFA, NBA 2K18
