Topic: Do you think Nintendo Switch will be capable of VR?

I'm not too sure if this has been asked/discussed before. I'm just wondering considering the nature of the joypad with the detachable pads on the sides as to whether they would be used for VR, like HTC Vive's controllers.

Suppose it would depend on the consoles specs as to whether it could handle it or not.

@Chris720 If the rumours are correct and the Switch has a 720 HD screen then I don't think VR will be possible,at least using the tablet together with a headset anyway. The PSVR gets criticized for its blurry screen and that's 1920 x 1080, 960 x 1080 to each eye. They may release a separate headset with its own screen in future though.Personally I don't think Nintendo will go that route though, they'll do their own thing with VR or AR.

@OorWullie A separate VR headset won't make much of a difference. The ''required'' resolution doesn't seem something the Switch would be able to handle. It would be very minimal at least. A better strategy is to wait a couple of years, release a successor to the Switch and implement VR in that system. At least they have the luxury of waiting and seeing where VR goes in the coming years..

It was too good to be true, but the set-up of the Switch does allow for easy VR compatibility if the screen had a higher resolution and the system was a little bit more powerful.

They could easily release a VR headset later down the line, depending on the hardware ofcourse. I can see VR being the brand new gaming experience that will actually last, compared to other gimmicks, like 3D.

If they do decide to release a headset it's certainly going to require the Supplemental Computing Device that was patented to add the extra power. And we don't know if the Switch has the required expansion port to support such a device.....

Not this switch. A future switch, maybe, with a later tegra version. I'd like to see a switch VR with everything built into the goggles, probably except for a wired battery pack that you clip onto your belt. Updated controllers would be cool, too. I wouldn't expect it for at least two years, give the tech a chance to come down in price...

Realistically, VR requires two 1080p displays running at 60fps for a decent experience. preferably even higher.

That means for a game to run in VR on the switch, it would have to be able to run at a rock solid 120fps at 1080p in non-vr mode. perhaps using instanced stereo rendering, temporal filtering, multi view rendering and other vr performance hacks, that could be reduced to 90fps. any switch vr title would probably end up looking like something in between a Wii and Wii U game graphically.

In a word? No. Sure it could theoretically do it but I think it would look horrific as it hasn't got the required hardware.
