Topic: Do I need to buy BOTW twice?

Hi everybody,
I just got my Nintendo Switch and I'm so excited about it. I bought Zelda BOTW online from the new console ; download is in progress.
My question is: can I use my account to download the new Zelda game on my Wii U console or should I buy it once again?
I know this might seem stupid, but in my experience Nintendo has been so restrictive so far.
Cheers

@Maxware Yes, if you want to play the game on Wii U as well, you need to buy it again.

Hi @maxware,

I believe you can't buy Zelda on one platform and play across both platforms. I believe you'd have to buy them separately just like you would the physical version.

I could of course be wrong as I only bought the physical game for my Switch and not my WiiU...but I'm pretty sure the game is tied to the platform you purchased it for.

Why would you buy the inferior Wii U version when you already have it on the Switch?

@KirbyTheVampire My guess is because he probably has another person in the house who wants to play too, it'd be cheaper than buying another Switch to get the game.

Yes. It was made for Wii U, but it has better specs on Switch, and you can take it anywhere with Switch.

But it's still a Wii U game.

The only logical answer is to get both.

I have the Switch version, but I would like to get the Wii U version for my collection.

After all, I have Twilight Princess on GameCube, Wii, and Wii U.

@Maxware you bought Zelda digitally?! There goes half your storage lol I would have saved that storage for small games that can only be bought digitally.

The GC is the better version, left handed Link and no waggle controls.

Wii U version is best.

@twindragon Yes you're right. I bought the console from the airport on my way home. There was no card games available.

@KirbyTheVampire @RetroRider The Wii U was a present for my son 2 years ago. The Switch was a present for me. My son and I live in separate houses.

Foolishness. Link was left-handed in the Wii version too. Your perspective is backwards though

Thank you all for your feedback. Nintendo's restrictions sometimes make no sense at all. I can't help but compare with Apple, Android, etc.

What about compatibility with old games? I guess the SDXC kills it all. Any chance with online games for Wii U?
