Topic: Diablo 3 left joy con issues

Is anyone else having issues with the left joy con? I am noticing that my character is running around with a weapon, but I have not been able to use it. I called my brother ( who has diablo 3 for another system). He said that I need to go into the controls to map the use of the weapon. All the other buttons work, but I noticed that weapon 5 is the top left joy con ( ZL) and the lock (L). I can use the joy con to run around, pull up the map.... but for some reason, those two buttons are not working for me. Is there a way to fix this? Is the a way to actually use the weapon? Or at least map the buttons to use the weapon? I have searched everywhere....youtube, google, etc. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

I haven't played Diablo 3 on anythong other than a PC, but I think I understand what you're getting at. You see, in Diablo 3, you never really need to 'use' your weapon; all your attacks are either your 'primary'; which is your resource generator and your 5 resource spenders/cooldown attacks.

Some classes actually use their weapons for these attacks, like Demon Hunters, Barbarians and Monks, but a class like the Necromancer, for example, never really needs to swing their scythe around; they use their 'primary' skills to either summon boney spikes popping from the ground or an ethereal scythe, which generates their resource, which they then spend summoning skeletons, ghouls, boney spears and whatnot.

But even if you're playing, for example, a Monk, and your primary skill is 'Way of the Thousand Fists'; if you've got a dagger or sword equipped on him, he won't use it. Because WotTF is a punching attack combo, he'll just sheathe his weapons for every strike. Which, admittedly, looks pretty silly.

Now, on PC you CAN in fact map 'basic attack' to one of the buttons, but doing so is absolutely useless. Those attacks barely do any damage and don't generate resources, so there's absolutely no reason to do so. In fact, the only time that attack is actually used is when you try and fire a resource spender when you're low on resources; at that point your character might actually swing around his weapon and say 'I'm low on mana' or some such. But mapping that attack is quite detrimental to any character build, so I wouldn't be surprised if they left it out on the console versions.

Complete aside, though, for if you think your weapon is useless because you don't swing it around; quite the contrary! Your weapon is actually the base number that all your attacks are calculated upon, and actually does add things like elements and such to your 'primary' attacks (read; resource generators). So even if your character isn't swinging it around, make sure you have a good one that fits your character.

Happy hunting!

Thank you for your reply!! I've been trying to figure it out since I bought the game. This is my first play in diablo and it is absolutely amazing! Thank you for your thought out reply to make sure that all facets of my question were answered.....even if my question didn't make total sense.
