Tried searching the forums, didn't find anything so... Anyway, Darkest Dungeon is supposedly coming out this month and it's got me excited. It's a very difficult dungeon crawler first released in January 2016. I love and hate the game at the same time, might gonna go back to it on the Switch. What do you guys think about this game? Have you played it and if so what do you make of it? Does anyone know will it come with the DLC included?

@SonOfVon I've read only good things about this game. It doesn't look the type of game I'd normally play but I will definitely be giving it a go. I'm not sure about any previous DLC and if it's included but apparently new DLC 'The Color of Madness' will be released in the Spring. Amazon.de have listed a physical version, called Crimson Edition for release some time in March.

I've never played this one before, but I'm thinking about getting it. I love the art style. I usually get these "high quality indies", but I'm not sure about this one. I'm afraid it's going to be played once or twice, then ignored.

5 poor souls are already in my graveyard, they will be avenged!

This is my first time playing. I've seen enough gameplay that I knew what I was in for. I'm 3 dungeons in. Playing on normal difficulty. No one is dead ...yet. Taking it quite slowly as I familiarize myself with all the things you can do in town and what each of the characters are capable of. The controls feel a bit clunky but I'm starting to remember what each button does. The worst thing is I tend to press A when there's rubble blocking the path and I end up using my hands instead of a shovel. Two of my characters got the "resolve is tested" thing thanks to that. It's nice that you can use touch controls as well.

It's its, not it's.

@Late yeah, touch controls are great, made me realize i can use the switch without the joycons attached as a tablet.
i've had really bad luck so far, i only have one healer and after i left her in the bar to relax while i took some new guys out (who all died) she drank too much and has gone missing. had to do another dungeon with no decent healer while i hope she comes back.

I've searched 10 or so dungeons so far, 3 of which were medium sized. Still at 0 deaths. Most of my guys are currently at 0 stress as well. I was expecting it to be more difficult but then again, I haven't ventured to the actual hard quests. Few of my characters have been to the death's door but luckily I've been able to heal them before next hit.

It's its, not it's.

@Late Oh I promise you, the difficulty will spike... Have no fear... The fear is coming.

Open question: Has anyone experienced the bug with Crimson court that's been reported where it doesn't save your progress?

Finally someone died. And not just one, the hag killed my whole team. I wanted some challenge so I entered the room with 0 light. Not the best idea but I got tired of easy encounters. I guess I should be upset that 4 of my guys died but I'm just happy. I'm out of money, though.

It's its, not it's.

I just started playing this, and have a question. Is it a good idea to activate the DLC on a first playthrough? I started playing just the base game, because I usually like to acquaint myself with the basics before expanding into DLC, but is there anything in the DLC that would actually help me on my first time around?

I thought the dlc was already included in the ancestral edition already. Playing at easy to get the hang of the game. Haven't played this type of gaming in some time and really rusty at it.

JasmineDragon

@SwitchForce It is included on the cart but the menu asks you if you want to activate it or not.

I started playing this morning, took me a while to work out the controls but I am loving it so far. Definitely my kind of game, and it seems like you can go VERY deep with it, judging by the communities on Steam and Reddit.

Well, it seems that the DLC actually is active by default. And the Crimson Curse is a real pain.

Beautiful game, it's tremendously frustrating but a lot of fun.

Okay, boss fights in this game are no joke. I just went up against the Hag with a whole group of my strongest adventurers, all powered up and equipped with the best weapons and trinkets I could find.. Getting through the dungeon with these guys was a walk in the park. Then we met the Hag, and she simply shredded them.

Red Hook really mean it when they advise you not to get too attached to your heroes. Those guys are going to die. A lot.

Great game for all that, 25 hours in I think it's one of my favorite Switch games. Very accessible but very very challenging, pretty much a perfect Roguelike.

Is anyone else out there playing this?

Does anyone else find Darkest Dungeon quite relaxing? As advised, I don't get attached to my heroes so when one of them dies I just shrug it off, add a new one and go again. It's got to the point where I deliberately pick some odd combinations just to see what will happen.

@CdrJameson Darkest Dungeon has become one of my favorite games. I find it very relaxing! I've got a pretty good hamlet now and a couple of squads of heroes at level 5 and 6, and it's just great to do a run before bed or any time I have fifteen minutes to spare.

Always reminding myself that overconfidence is a slow and insidious killer.

@JasmineDragon None of my heroes are that high level at the moment. They don't last long enough! I'm well aware that I'm not playing the game "properly" or even trying to win but I'm really enjoying it like that in a similar way to how I enjoy sandbox games.

I didn't take Red Hook's advice about not caring for your heroes. Not after watching them grow from lowlifes to champions, i just can't shrug it off when one of them die.

The Harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. When the going gets tough, the tough gets going.
