The original Dark Souls is coming to Nintendo Switch, Nintendo and publisher Bandai Namco announced today. The remaster of the Dark Souls will be released for Nintendo’s portable console on May 25.
I love the Souls series for sure but I would have liked to see Dark Souls 3 on the Switch. Ok after looking it up I see that this game is being remastered on the other consoles as well. I thought it was just on the Switch.
Hopefully Nintendo pays to have Dark Souls 2 and 3 ported.
I wanted to play this so much on the pc but playing it with the mouse and keyboard just seems wrong and it's clumsy as hell for me. Also I don't own any gamepads for the pc, not usable for the games I usually play there so I was hoping this series would come to wii u back in the day and now for switch. So excited, can't wait
Not been here for a long time. But had to come here to say am excited for the Switch version. I will be getting the PS4 version to play with friends. But am also getting it for switch as well. However, It's going to be interesting to see how well the switch handles blighttown.
So that's me buying dark souls another couple of times. Switch for the novelty of dark souls anywhere and PS4 to get that last souls platinum I need for my collection.
I do hope there's local co op on the switch version.
I want to play some café souls
I was definitely surprised to see Dark Souls announced. While I have never played it I know that this is still a HUGE game for the Switch. Can’t wait to see how it runs
Oh boy oh boy. I wont even play the Switch version cos I'd rather get 60fps but this is most excellent.
I wonder how much they've changed the graphics? Have they fixed the blight town framerate issues?
I hope a lot of Nintendo people try this out. It's easily one of the best games ever made.
@AlternateButtons The Switch is weaker than the PS4/Xbox One BASE models and this is a remake, not a straight up port. Don't expect much from such a weak system is what I'd say.
@AlternateButtons I heard it was made on the Dark Souls 3 engine, so there's that. Well if that isn't a good excuse to you, maybe the fact that a lot if not most Switch owners will just justify any issue with Switch games via portability is something to consider. Devs can make it 20 FPS 720P or even lower, and Switch owners would eat it up, celebrate it as the best version best game, and be content with that.
@AlternateButtons It's just something I heard. At any rate, just look at the handheld people that excuse any issue with Switch via portability for why it didn't run any better, because it doesn't HAVE to run any better. If people take less, they will get less.
@MFD Yeah, that's for sure. I want to support Nintendo on the third party side of things, but I just can't bring myself to do it with issues like that.
For me, it's definitely a Nintendo machine, which is fine, but a little disappointing.
@KirbyTheVampire Yup. For me it's not just the issues, it's also that handheld aside, logically, you're paying more for less, unless Nintendo leverages their IP or something else. It really does give you the idea that the Switch is primarily meant as handheld, since SO MUCH rides on that!
@MFD When you say you're paying more for less, are you talking about the games generally performing worse on the Switch, or that whole Switch Tax situation?
We haven't seen any footage, so it's difficult to say.
I think a lot of people are confused about what "game engine" actually means (including NLife in quite a few articles over the years)
People seem to interpret it to mean something about the graphics. Like if it uses the Dark Souls 3 engine, that means its graphics will look like Dark Souls 3.
That's not true. The engine is just what's taking care of everything behind the scenes and determines what the came CAN do, given the current hardware. It's entirely possible to just use the Dark Souls 3 engine to make something that looks almost identical to the original Dark Souls 1.
