Hello everyone, i got this game a couple of weeks ago. I really enjoyed the story and the mechanics are so much fun but i have not been able to find a single online match so far on Switch, am i the only one having this problem? It has honestly been so disappointing because i couldn't play the game online. I always find one or two people max in a lobby and we never make it past the loading screen. Is the game dead on Switch? Or am i having some kind of problem?
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Tell me about it, how are you ever suppose to invite friends to play online with you.
Hopefully they'll bring out a fix for this in the future.

If it's true that the Switch won't be getting the microtransactions, that would be a cool boost to that particular version.

@Woomy_NNYes Thanks for replying!
I think my problem isn't just geography, i found a discord for CTR players on Switch and I still was not able to play any games. Every time i join their lobby and they start the race, the game says everyone left in the loading screeb and i get kicked back to the menu while they continue playing the race so it's just me. My internet connection is definitely not bad and i play many other games with it and some of them are demanding when it comes to connections so I don't know what's the problem! The online experience with CTR has been disappointing to say the least.

Thanks for the reply and okay i'll give that a try but the only concern is if you want to play with a friend but they don't know to join you as there is no chat on nintendo switch for friends you can't do a friend match otherwise?
Bet that soon got you nitro gauge to full lol

hello I am thinking of getting this game how active is it online with getting games

@Louise29
You can get online races fairly consistently. The list of people you get matched with often fills, then disappears, like a slow hiccup, once or a couple times. There's 45 second load screen before the race, and after the race. So, this isn't quick loading like MK8 & MK7. (an update was supposed to come out in July to overclock the Switch to speed up track load times, but we haven't seen it, or heard anything about it's current status. So, not sure if it's actually coming or not).

There's little to no tutorial for drift-boosting in Crash Team Racing. Just play adventure mode on Easy until you can beat the first 5+ races and the first boss. Thats enough to get you good enough to to play adventure mode on regular(default) difficulty. If you've played a lot of MK8, you may need to play for a bit to get used to how the karts turn while drifting. I kept hitting the walls for a while because of I was so used to how MK8 turns. Maybe other people adapted easier. I'm not sure. I'll tell you what though, this game gets amazing once you get used to how it turns when drift boosting. You will likely get crushed in your first easy mode adventure races, because AI punishes you if you're getting behind. Once you start getting faster, you'll start beating the races. (some adventure mode races or time trials can't be won if you don't know the track shortcut. Be ready to search them down. Use youtube if needed.) Sorry this is so wordy. It's just an awesome game that I almost didn't give enough of a chance.

Hey, how do I play the grand prix tracks? I see many items on the menu (e.g., quick challenges) but none of them takes me to any game. This game's menus are certainly confusing! I want to play the Halloween tracks.

@BlueOcean They're in the normal track select so Single Race, Time Trial, Relic Race and CTR Challenge dependent on which one you want to do with the GP tracks are at the bottom (4 so far, 1 per month). The GP section of the main menu is just about the progression system, complete challenges to earn nitro and the more you get the more rewards you earn.

Did somebody say something about CTR?
@BlueOcean What @Grumblevolcano said...
Yeah, the halloween track is rad AF. It's called Nina's Nightmare. In case you don't know how a "Grand Prix" works. A GP is a season that last's a month, where they add one new track, and a few new karts, parts, characters, skins. Each of the 4 GP tracks added so far, can be raced in Local Arcade, listed at the bottom of the track list -labeled "Bonus Tracks". These gp dlc tracks are not in adventure mode.

The Spyro kart ,"Spyromobile", with Spectral Purple paint, and Spectral Blue wheels looks like an awesome creepy batmobile. I LOVE it.

If you do want to earn NITRO points to unlock some GP stuff, maximize your set up with karts, paint, wheels, characters, character skins, that have the little green Nitro multiplier icon on them saying +5, or +15. The most you can get in a set up is +50.

@Grumblevolcano Thanks.

@Woomy_NNYes Thanks for the thoroughly explanation. So these grand prix tracks are time-limited? What happens when the month is over? Can't we play them any more, just for one month? What happened to the older grand prix tracks?

does anyone know of any active fourms for this game so I can play with people

https://4drclanforum.com/

Grumblevolcano

@BlueOcean The older Grand Prix tracks are still playable in the normal ways and still appear online randomly, the other content however is limited time. Anything you earn or buy with Wumpa Coins you keep forever however stuff that you don't get reappears in the Pit Stop at a later date (e.g. Tawna Bandicoot was the unlockable Grand Prix character for July but she's reappeared in the Pit Stop this month).

Did anyone notice pitstop & daily challenges didn't reset? It has always reset at 8pm eastern time US.

@BlueOcean Do you even drift, bro? (I'm joking. Parody of the "do you even lift, bro?" meme) The cool gp tracks are here to stay. At the bottom of the track list, the four tracks under "bonus tracks" are all the gp tracks so far. The gp karts, parts, characters & skins are limited to the gp, as far as we've seen.

If you see a floating green plane kart online, it's the first "special kart", a $4.99 (US) dlc available on ctr eshop page. Saw an article say the kart proceeds go to a charity, and once they sell 200,000, its gone -if I'm remembering correctly. I had to Google it.

@Grumblevolcano Problem is I play on the train most of the times so I haven't earned many Wumpa coins It's so unfair!

@Woomy_NNYes Hey I used to play Crash Nitro Kart on GameCube remember? In the newest game I find drifting slightly more difficult, probably because I don't see as clearly the visual cues for pressing the buttons as in the other game. I am playing the game in easy mode but I'm still playing the first world in story mode and the Halloween tracks that I played yesterday.

The menus are also a bit confusing in this game when you have just started playing!

I think that this game is more fun than Mario Kart 8 (DX) but the resolution is a bit low in handheld mode (Switch Lite) and the frame rate is 30, it took me a while to get used to it but at least it's smooth. So, it doesn't look or run as good as Mario Kart 8 but the visuals are more advanced and gameplay is more fun if you ask me. In between, this is the only multiplatform game that I have bought on Switch exclusively where it surely looks the worst.

The free extra tracks are a lovely present (they were paid DLC on Mario Kart 8 before being ported to Switch) but the fact that you have to be online to get Wumpa coins is annoying when playing on Switch.

@BlueOcean I missed out on Crash racing for the cube. I think I wrote it off as a cheap imposter game, or didn't know about it somehow -either way, ignorance. In CTR, I admit don't drift as well in handheld as I do with the pro controller.

I've got to say, this whole catching ghosts thing in CTR is AWESOME: busting ghosts out of crates, seeing them race around the track, chasing them, catching them, passing them. Absolute genius. Took me a while to figure out catching ghosts doesn't affect race performance. Catching ghosts is just for completing Grand Prix challenges.They nailed the concept, though. I love it. I raced Nina's NIghtmare many, many times just to catch ghosts.

Justifier

Hey does anyone know if loading times have improved?
I played this game couple of months ago with my brother, and really liked it, only thing was those loong loading times. Now I wonder if I should buy this on Switch or Xbox One.

@Justifier sometimes I think the load times after races got a little shorter. I'm not sure if my memory is accurate though.

Oh, if you have the option, go Xbox for load times. It's my understanding that ps4 & xbox have shorter load times. I guess, see if you can find info to back that up before you buy.

The new halloween track, Nina's Nightmare, is super cool. So are the ghosts that bust out of the crates, and the glowing spectral paint jobs.
