Topic: Crayola Scoot deserves to get more attention

Honestly I am surprised at how under the radar this game is right now. It is like a perfect blend of Splatoon and THPS with some Jet Set Radio and Skate thrown in. The gameplay is pretty much a blend of Splatoon and THPS, and it works a lot better than it sounds because I have been having a ton of fun with it already and I was pretty skeptical at first. To be honest the only reason I got it is because I have always been a big fan of extreme sports games and there has been a major drought in that genre. The way JSR and Skate get worked into it is because the art style reminds me of JSR and the controls definitely feel inspired by Skate.

Anyways I am enjoying this game and I think it deserves to be getting more attention as it seems to be flying under the radar right now.

@JayJ : I was also reminded immediately of Splatoon, Tony Hawk Pro Skater, and I suppose de Blob as well (though I have never played the latter).

I have been keen on this since it was announced, and the four-player split screen multiplayer is the icing on the cake. I'm still holding out for the physical release though, which I believe is due in early-mid November.

"Gee, that's really persuasive. Do you have any actual points to make other than to essentially say 'me Tarzan, physical bad, digital good'?"

@Silly_G They got the physical version out already in the US at least, I imagine other regions will follow if it isn't out yet. The multiplayer here is a lot more fun than the usual extreme sports multiplayer due to the Splatoon elements, it is kind of a crazy turf war kinda experience but with THPS gameplay as opposed to a 3'rd person shooter.

The single player has been very satisfying though, the music is surprisingly good and even though it's clearly meant to be somewhat of a kids game, as a 30 year old I can really get into it. It sorta has a similar lighthearted animation style vibe as JSR and the kind of skatepark action that stood out with the better THPS titles. Those Skate inspired controls also work surprisingly well and give it a lot more depth than you would probably expect. I would have never guessed that a Crayola extreme sports title featuring scooters could be this good but it truly is.

@JayJ : It is being released in Australia, and by extension, Europe, a few weeks after the U.S.

Anyway, it's good to at least have an opinion about the game and that it is of a good quality.

You're just barely older than I am, but I have my share of "kiddy" games too (I've recently started playing Tomodachi Life again), though I wouldn't go near something that is aimed at infants. I was also drawn to the Crayola branding as I loved Crayola as a child, and loved drawing even though I'm quite rubbish at it.

So, this game is like Splatoon WITHOUT Shooting with machine gun / weapons ?

@ReaderRagfish Sadly I think a lot of people are going to assume that, Crayola doesn't exactly scream quality gaming to a lot of people, but that is why I was pleasantly surprised by this one.

@Anti-Matter Not exactly, but it does share some similarities with Splatoon. It works a lot better than it sounds like it would, and delivers a unique experience.

I was surprised by the price until I saw the trailer for the game. Its look like its my kind of game.

@JayJ Would you pay the full price for this game? Also is there many tricks or just very few tricks. What do you do in that game? Beat high scores or collect stuffs?

Umm… Care to have some gravy?

@Super_Gravy The game has a lot of variety to it. It is sort of made up of various different modes with different objectives. You don't play it like you would a classic THPS game, I mean it has that kind of gameplay but not the same type of objectives. Splatoon is honestly a good comparison, it is for the most part about getting high scores while trying to cover as much of the stage as you can with your own paint, which is produced by doing tricks and boosting around. The better you do the and the more ground you cover the better your results typically are. There is a variety of ways to play it, for example once you get to certain points you can get into a "horse" or "skate" points competition with the "legendary" characters that you want to defeat in the single player, but that is also a way to play the multiplayer if you like. In other words you aren't really limited to playing it one way or the other, but I have had fun with most objectives they offer. I honestly think it is a breath of fresh air for the extreme sports genre and it puts a fun spin on the multiplayer that makes it more entertaining than past titles in the genre.

As for the price, I bought it at the full asking price ($40 US) and I found it to be very worthwhile and somewhat of a good deal for what they are asking. If you know what you are getting into, I doubt you will be disappointed. The tricks are also surprisingly deep like I said, the game sort copies the right stick trick system that the Skate games had, and once you get it down you learn how there is a lot of possibilities and variation to what you can do.
