But I understand, the license was probably impossible to get from Disney.

No Punisher or D&D games either. Stupid licensing!

The only one that hurts not being on here is Cadillacs and Dinosaurs. Including Battle Circuit almost makes up for it though.

And just how many games on the eshop that never got a arcade release also say the same thing "relive the glory days of the arcade in this game"!?

I don’t understand your point. I’m not sure what this has to do with anything as these are actual arcade games advertising itself as actual arcade games compared to these indie games that advertise themselves as arcade-like and why that means they should add random SNES beat-EM ups to the collection.

I'm very excited about this collection. Final Fight is one of my favorite arcade games of all time and it got me into beat 'em ups. I also really liked Knights of the Round and Captain Commando on the PS2 Capcom Classics Collections. It's so awesome all these games have online multiplayer too. I remember at my pizza parlor when employees would rush to the phone when the phone would ring in Final Fight's opening cut scene when Mad Gear was telling Mike Haggar that they kidnapped Jessica. Good times. Anyway I've already pre-ordered and downloaded the collection. Tuesday can't come soon enough.

@Mrtoad
Because they are arcade beat em ups. Just because they didn't get a arcade release doesn't matter.

Kinda like if Nintendo put out a Mario collection and omitted Mario 2 but had Lost Levels instead because they wanted the true Mario games and not and Frankensteined game.

GameOtaku

Toy_Link

@GameOtaku No, it’d be like if Nintendo didn’t put in SMW into an 8 bit Mario collection and fans complained about it due to Indie’s misusing the term “8 bit”. That’s what you’re doing

The SNES was a good system, make no mistakes about that. But it couldn't compare to the graphics arcade machines were capable of at the time. And for those of us who grew up during the era of Arcades there was something special about going to one. Towards the end arcades were dominated by those stupid ticket granting coin pushers and other random luck disguised as skill "games".

But playing a motorcycle racing game while riding on a motorcycle you have to tilt left and right to turn, and actually manipulate the clutch and throttle? And what you do in real life is reflected in the game? That was amazing. Brawlers by the 90's tended to have deeper combat then you might expect. Racing games had that level of immersion that consoles wouldn't be able to replicate for years by having you sit in a mock up of the driver's seat and having you actually drive the car in the game. Turn the steering wheel, and the car turns. Step on the gas and the car goes forward. Shifting gears manually so the car can continue gaining speed, downshifting when needed... Console racing games wouldn't be able to pull off that level of immersion for a long time. Then there was the shooters, where you're holding a gun and firing at the bad guys. Sure it was a plastic light gun, but was a gun that you had to hold and aim. Your skill at the game was directly proportional to your accuracy with the light gun.

Then there was the tense thrill, striving to become ever better at the game because you only ever had a limited amount of money to play them, and you wanted to play more then just that one game. But you didn't want your session in a given game to end too quickly. I got good at X-Men the arcade game. I could clear the first three levels with only one continue, maybe two. And I could beat the first stage in one life without using my mutant power (which cost health to activate). If you managed to beat an arcade game like Final Fight without having to spend $20 to do it, it felt great. If you could do it with only spending $2 or $3 that felt even better since many of these games took $0.50 per continue.

And it was a social experience. I have fond memories of watching people playing arcade games who were amazingly good at them, far better then I dreamed of ever becoming at the time. You cheered on people who were doing good. Ribbed those who were having an off day (and often would get ribbed yourself probably). And even if you didn't know each other, you were instant friends while the two or three of you (sometimes up to 4 people) were playing the same beat-em-up.

To be honest, releasing these arcade games on a home console doesn't and cant evoke the feeling playing the games in the arcade did. But it lets you play some fantastic games once again. Sure when you go back now, years later, they have their flaws. X-Men's horrific voice lines of "Welcome to Die" and "I am Magneto, master of Magnet" come to mind. Still, the chance to play these games once again is great.

@Mrtoad
It's a beat em up collection. A Mario collection would be incomplete without Mario 2 so just like capcom saying the SF collection had all SF games but it omitted 2. A so called beat em up collection but missing 2 games from a series?!

GameOtaku

Toy_Link

@GameOtaku A Beat-EM Up ARCADE collection. Do I need to C+P post #26?

Capcom Beat em Up Bundle
Capcom Arcade Beat em up Bundle.
Which is it?! I bet it blew your friggin mind when snk collection was both home and arcade versions!

GameOtaku

FaeKnight

In this case @GameOtaku, it's a bundle of Capcom's arcade games, not console games.

Little wonder companies nickel and dime is to death when people like you just rationalize such anti consumer behavior. Final fight 2 and 3 are called arcade beat em ups, just because they didn't get one doesn't make them any less of an arcade style beat em up. Everyone is so ready to jump on the Nintendo online bandwagon to rent nes games that most of us probably own once or twice on vc. When will the madness end?!

GameOtaku

FaeKnight

No, they are called beat-em-ups or more often side scrolling brawlers. They were never arcade games, so they aren't called "arcade beat em ups". The series transitioned to home console after Final Fight was successfully ported.

@GameOtaku Oh Boo Hoo! Because, it doesn’t include two games I like it’s anti-consumer now. You are emotional driven not logic driven. Do collections have to include every game that could possibly fall under that label by the company or risk being called anti-consumer now?

@FaeKnight
That logic is still potatoes potatoe, tomato tomatoe! It's still a collection of beat em up games. Home Vs Arcade who cares a bump (typing beat em up is too long so I'll just say bump for short) is a bump.

@Mrtoad
As long as licensing isn't really an issue like AvP would be a see no reason why Capcom shouldn't. If you think about it it's bump collection is not very large.

@GameOtaku It’s only $20, that’s about $2.80 per game. Remember on VC, it’d cost more to get the three Final Fights than to get this.

@GameOtaku The collection is a themed collection, and that theme is "arcade games in this genre". The theme isn't "Final Fight, all the games" but Capcom's arcade side scrolling brawlers". I get that you want Final Fight 2 and 3, but those aren't part of this collection. And they weren't intended to be part of it, obviously. Just as a collection of arcade brawlers that included Golden Axe (which was an arcade game originally) wouldn't be required to include Golden Axe 2 and 3, which were Sega Genesis games. A Golden Axe collection on the other hand would be expected to have them in it.

I don't personally think the collection is overpriced. It contains 7 classic beat em ups and from looking at the trailer that accompanies it ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YC-EiAypwns ) It has a bunch of cool extras like additional art as well as difficulty options, edition select, and archival documents. I mean 7 games for less that $3 each is a steal in my book. In comparison Burning Fight ( a neo geo final fight clone) is on sale for $4.79 with the base price being $8.

So zetta slow!

GameOtaku

@Mrtoad
Considering those games aren't included in this to have the complete collection it would be worth it.

@FaeKnight
It's still misleading and unnecessary. A Capcom bump collection that's actually complete compared to only having a small sampling?
