@crimsontadpoles sorry you feel that way. I've shown this to a lot of people I know and they were offended. Have a great day.

@crimsontadpoles We'll just have to agree to disagree lol my original reasoning for reporting as stated is this is inappropriate for kids. Especially on a system that is built around being family friendly. Hitler isn't family friendly.

@crimsontadpoles The reason I made this post is to highlight the fact that you can't report people in general. Not to debate whether my reason to report this guy is justified.

Sourjolly

Sourjolly

@crimsontadpoles word. Yeah I was really surprised that I hadn't seen this issue in any other forums.

Octane

@Sourjolly Haven't you seen the ads? The Switch is a system for young adults.

@Octane ugh I can never tell now when people are trolling online lol. Nintendo has always been known as a 'family friendly' system though. Those little cute families love playing some Mario party. It's funny because I didn't want this to even be a big deal. I just thought oh I'll report and he'll have to change it. But here we are. I just want a little report button 😭 That's all I want Nintendo 😭

The person who created this Mii is obviously trying to get a reaction out of people. Very lowbrow, if you ask me.
I understand what you are saying and there are obviously generally accepted practices that help society function in peace and harmony. But the price of freedom has always been that people may need to live peacefully with others who occasionally offend them. Obviously if someone physical harms someone or their property, then a line is crossed. But if everyone was forced to think and live exactly the same way because one person forces their will onto others, would that not be the definition of totalitarianism?

The only reason this person created this Mii is to get as many people riled up as possible He/She wants cheap attention and enjoys watching people get upset. They want a reaction the same way a young child will throw a tantrum to get their parents attention. In my opinion the best way would be an ignore button and as a community if everyone ignored this person, and no one gave them the time of day, they would soon realize this type of "humor", if you can call it that, is not accepted. But my guess is this type of person gets pleasure when everyone gets mad and sends them a bunch of hate. My guess is they want to get banned.
Just think if everyone ignored this person and then they could never find a group to bother because everyone has him/her on ignore. And the ignore button would extend to in games too. Just imagen if the vast majority of people ignored this person and they could not join a game because everyone has them on ignore.
He/She must be lonely.
What do you think about an ignore button verses a report button?

@Hikingguy Love your insight. Yeah an ignore button would also be a great addition. My thought process was that I'd report him and he'd have to change it and that would be a really quick fix. I wasn't really looking to get him banned although that is probably what would happen when I think about it(unfortunately). Nintendo definitely needs to add some type of fix. Especially if someone is harassing, making fun etc.

@Hikingguy Although right now there isn't a great online chat... all they have right now to communicate is an app which doesn't do a good job. If/when they incorporate a better communication system ignore/report or whatever they decided will be crucial. If they don't they'll receive an uproar of backlash.
Also in terms of people harassing I do think they should be held accountable and reported if it's extensive.

@Sourjolly Because a properly implemented ignore button would stop any communication immediately. From my experience Nintendo makes it difficult, but not impossible, for real life identities to be known. If someone is harassing you, you simply ignore them and, poof, no more contact from that person. It would be as if they do not exist anymore. I am just thinking out loud.
I am surprised that Nintendo does not have an ignore feature already.

@Hikingguy They do have a block button but it's not really needed right now imo I haven't even had a need to use it. There is no communication what's so ever at the moment. When voice chat is properly implemented it will be used for sure. I was wanting to report him just so kids/family etc. wouldn't even have to see this. As you said he/she obviously made this intending to piss off people lol. So a report should be expected if it was even possible. I just think that if you're going to make a profile that could even slightly bother someone you should expect that kind of thing.

@Hikingguy if someone harasses one person then they will most likely do it to another and so on. A report button is a good thing to have to stop the harassment period. I would just hate to ignore someone and then they harass someone else y'know?

LuckyLand

@Sourjolly I'm sure that many of the people who play Little Big Planet online are kids (with bad taste for platformers games lol) and their parents want it to be a family friendly experience, and Sony want to make those parents feel fine about the games their children play. On the other hand No more heroes is not that much family friendly and Travis was explicitly mentioned during Switch presentation. This is not about if a console is family friendly or not. All videogames manufacturers want to be family friendly at least to some extent because customers with children probably will make their children new customers, customers with no children don't bring anymore customers instead.

...

This is only about the fact that single player offline games are just plain fun while multiplayer online games only create problems and pointless issues ( lol )

I used to be a ripple user like you, then I took The Arrow in the knee

Sourjolly

@LuckyLand great point. If my kid wanted to play Call of Duty though I would buy them Splatoon instead lol. More kids play Splatoon so don't want kids hanging out in a lobby with Hitler 😂😂

ValhallaOutcast

I think the main reason there isnt a report button(yet) is we cant even interact, we cant harass ,cant say racist or derogatory messages, we cant really do anything, can't stalk or add people without their friend code

The Switch is currently like a private lobby with very limited ways to be offended

So maybe a report button will be added once online interaction becomes more public

Sourjolly

@ValhallaOutcast yeah that makes sense. I'm used to MMORPGs where you just aren't able to make a profile/character with an inappropriate name. I was just really shocked he/she was even able to do it lol

@Sourjolly ya true most systems block works for user names, I wonder if because the nickname on nintendo is not unique and everyone can have the same name its not actually checking a system for availability or for banned words
