I went through similar hoops. By calling Gamestop daily (and being very polite even though frustrated) I was able to get one last week. BOTW is worth it.
Also Nintendo should fix their supply problems cos this is not good business.

Zelda is the best game series in history.

Their supply problem is nonexistent. Everything you are saying is anecdotal. I'll counter exactly what you said with this: My friends and I walked into one of our local Walmarts (we have a couple around us) yesterday after a race, and they had three Switches just sitting there behind the glass. In a different local Walmart I was able to purchase a Pro Controller during the second week the system was out. They had 5 other pro controllers in stock.

People need to stop being so god-danged narrow-minded. There's a whole world out there. Just because your miniscule slice of reality may not have a Switch for a couple days doesn't mean Nintendo has a "supply problem."

Funny story, I ordered mine in a Gamestop last week and it's a red/blue one due April 4th... and I'm walking around my local Wal-Mart. I look over in the Nintendo section and there are FOUR, yes FOUR Switch consoles grey/grey sitting on the shelf. Mine is already shipped to the Gamestop so I cannot cancel it. I still have to wait a couple more days because I really wanted my red/blue one....

Crazy how hard it is for some of you to find one. The Walmart in Blue Springs, MO has 3 of the blue and red consoles in stock. Well as of 9am today they do.

This link is pretty accurate when looking for items in stock.

Hmm...I used that site to see if my local Walmart had any in stock. It said 3 of the Grey version are in stock and 2 of the Neon Red/Blue are in stock there. I may go up there and check for myself tomorrow after I get off of work.

Glad to hear OP was able to get a Switch!

On the other hand, Nintendo has to juggle production. If they overproduced it very well may have ended the hardware division of the company. If they under produce then it means they are leaving money on the table. Study how Supply Chains work and go work in one and then explain how Nintendo should have handled this. I will admit Nintendo's supply chain is not ideal, but they did double production for 2017. They realize they under forecasted and are trying to fix it.

It is pretty impossible to overproduce a new console. Even if they had 3 million units ready at launch and only sold 2 million. The other 1 million would sell within that same year. Nintendo probably would have sold 3 million units in it's first month if they had them available.

The only real way to overproduce would be to have like 15 million units made.

Sort of on topic, but I went to istocknow.com after mentioned by @Lethal I have 4 Walmarts, 4 Gamestops, and a Best Buy in my town but none of them show up on the map, presumably because none are currently in stock. Is there a way to get my stores to show up so that I can get a notification when things are in stock?

The only time I had issues like this was with the launch of the wii. Are there more people wiating to get their hands on one? It seems some countries are slowly getting the availability they need? It's still sold out everywhere over here.

The item that I had a difficulty finding was the Official LAN adapter that I finally picked up at a local Gamestop.

Turns out they had 4 in stock (2 grey and 2 neon red/blue) when I checked yesterday. I went today and bought the neon red/blue version. It looks like they're down to 2 now after I bought mine. I can't believe I didn't think to check their electronics section when I was up there this past Saturday in the first place, I could have got it then. D'oh!

I realize that checking websites and stuff is super-convenient, but honestly there's nothing more accurate than just walking into a brick and mortar store and asking the staff. Sometimes the websites just don't update or show stock properly, and you could be missing out on plenty of units just a few miles away.

I happened to be at the front of the queue preordering MK8D in my local Game store when the manager popped out with a neon switch and told the guys behind the counter that it was available for sale and they all looked shocked. I seriously considered buying it as I do want an extra dock and eventually I'll want another set of joycons. I'd essentially have a spare tablet but it would come on handy for some local co op. Decided against it as I've already spent a lot on gaming this month.

@ariaalison I got mine off of the offerup app. I checked about every 15-20 minutes for new postings every day and found a guy that bought it just to play zelda.

He sold me the switch, accessories, BotW, Pro Controller, Hardcover Guide, and 32GB SD card for $400. I got lucky and responded within a few minutes of him posting and picked it up an hour later.

Stay vigilant and don't give into scalpers.

Lysis

Saw one at a Best Buy in Brooklyn today, but they wouldn't sell it. Says it was on the shelf by mistake because the 14 units they got in are for sale on Sunday, April 9 when the new weekly ad goes live.

That's the last week of shopping before Easter, so I expect that there will be a lot of availability come Sunday, For those who get there early, at least!

Lysis

Dokkaebi

@Lysis Technically if it was on the shelf with a pricetag on it they have to sell it to you. I bet if you made a scene they would have let you buy it.

Dokkaebi

Ryu_Niiyama

@Dokkaebi No they won't. There are fines and the DMs would chew the Store Manager (and thus the employee's) butt if they did. Also the Best buy system is keyed to not allow a device to ring up if it has a street date in the system.

I too have had a very difficult time finding a Switch, largely because there aren't a lot of places here that stock it. EB Games had one restock, but of course it was the one day I was out of town. I just can't catch a break 😅

Eel

Visit Mexico, most game shops here have them in stock.

I guess they're so expensive that not that many people buy them mindlessly.
