Topic: Can the NX provide a home for mid-budget and/or innovative 3rd party exclusives?

One thing that made the Wii and DS great systems was that they provided a home for lower-budget/quirky games from 3rd parties. Games like Truama Center, TWEWY, or Elebits wouldn't have found much of an audience on the PS3 or 360, but they shined on Nintendo's platforms. The Wii U could've been this too, but it's lack of communication with getting the gamepad across and it's poor sales killed it.

However, can the NX return to those days? Even if it ends up lacking AAA support from EA or Take Two, it could still be a place for companies like Capcom or Sega to make low or mid-budget games, as well as experiment with new concepts. And it opens the door up for even more indie support as well.

In order to do this, Nintendo would have to make the NX's development architecture similar to a mobile device. This doesn't necessarily mean an underpowered system, but one that has similar development language that those who have developed for iOS and Android are familiar with, which can also allow for easy ports of mobile games. That AND they really need to wow people with the NX's concept.

Hopefully. Games like those tend to take up the majority of my gaming time. My most played game in 2015 so far is Etrian Mystery Dungeon.

Yes, this would be a great niche for Nintendo to fill, it fits their business model pretty well.

Mid Budget - No. Innovative Developers - that has been Nintendo's target for a while now. To reach the mid -budget developers, they would need to be able to attract the big budget developers. mid budget projects are mainly about maximizing profits. Sony actually does very well on this front but a lot of that has to do with the money Sony is willing to throw around for timed exclusives and Playstation exclusive content. Innovative Developers will go where they think they can deliver interesting products, but they mainly go to PC because of the lower dev costs and easier distribution methods.

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

Innovative third parties? After this generation? I'll pay good money to see that.

But, at the end of the day I'll always hold this view - If the game isn't good, or broken, or has patches up the wazoo, or is just plain boring, then no, I'd rather not have that support for a system.

It'd be nice though. The DS certainly captured the imagination, just a shame developers don't see the Wii U as a more powerful DS, even though they are more than willing to see the other two consoles as outdated PCs. ...Which means the Wii U is underpowered, but so are the other two XD

Probably but only from Japan, the West seems more intrested in only porting over games already in the works.
