Can confirm the way MotoGP 18 is being sold on the Switch?

I ask because it seems like it isn't getting a physical release in the US, I have only seen physical copies show up from the UK so it seems like it is only getting a release there. If this is true it is somewhat unfortunate as I wanted to get the game physically since it takes up nearly 10GB.

You can always order the UK version if there isn't a US version. The Switch is region-free, so it will play on your US machine without any problems.

[EDIT] BTW the game isn't released in the UK until 29th June. How have you seen copies? Do you mean pre-orders?
Cheapest I've seen, with a quick scan, is £38.95 from thegamecollection.net. Gameseek.co.uk is usually good for prices, but it's down at the moment.

thanks, I am not too familiar with the uk stores and it seems like I am going to need to import this one

I have been looking for pre-orders but it has only shown up on the eshop

I just ordered a UK copy from thegamecollection. I don't like having to import but I am a racing enthusiast so this is something I really wanted to check out. Luckily UK games don't have any issues from my experience, I made a UK account and downloaded some games from the UK store in the past and they worked well for me.

It is also available for pre-order from Australian stores, though I do not know which ones provide international shipping.

I really hated the collision detection (and occasional lack thereof) in the footage that I had seen. It kills the immersion for me and makes the game seem rushed/incomplete.

I don't know. I'll wait for a review.

@Silly_G Any MotoGP game I've ever played has collision detection like that, guess if you instantly wiped out from touching another bike as would pretty much happen in real life, it would be too hard?

As a US gamer collecting Switch games, I've had good experiences with shop4megastore.

I've played it on handheld so far. Good news, and bad (bear in mind, this is 3 laps worth of play in 'tutorial').

It looks like hot garbage and I think Reddit in particular are going to kill it. I wouldnt like to say what the res is, but its like 320 or something lol. Can barely make out any details on your rider.

Preface this with the fact I'm by no means a graphics elitist and very much a Switch apologist. I thought Doom looked and ran brilliantly for example, whilst most of Reddit shat on it from a great height. Once you are riding along, I really dont think its an issue - but as I say, take that with a pinch. You have to realise its not going to be 1080, especially handheld.

I believe from what I've seen that docked looks better - I wont be able to test this for about another hour or so.

Now... the good. I think it runs really well so far. Smooth frame rate (felt like a solid 30 - but again, only me on track so wait to see what a race is like) and controls felt snappy enough.

In summary, despite the horrid vasoline-ish handheld visuals, I enjoyed it A LOT....

Oh and load times seemed fine.

A fair point, I suppose. I've never played a game in this genre before so I have nothing to compare it to.

Shame about the visuals. I knew the eShop screenshots were too good to be true.

Ok tried docked now. Its not that much better - definitely a resolution bump (not much lol) but I did notice a couple of stutters that I'm pretty sure were not there handheld.

Overall, for me at least, I'm happy with it. Feels like a technical achievement to get something like this on Switch and run more or less solidly smooth. Yes it looks awful and I have no doubts people are going to crap all over it, but the actual racing itself I've found really exciting so far and its just brilliant to have a sim on the Switch!!

Plus it only cost £27, probably wouldnt be so forgiving if it was £45! (actually, wouldnt have bought it, but still)

I don’t know. Never played one of these games. Are they fun... good single player option?

Just picked this up, as it was £20 on the eShop, and it reviewed the best of the 'realistic' racers like the Gear Clubs and V-rally. (Damning with faint praise, I know).

Two tutorials in and two dip in races at Silverstone then, so first impressions -

There isn't a lot of surprise and delight in the graphics. Rose tinted spectacles I'm sure, but I got more 'wow' out of a PS2 bike racer. The rider and bike are quite static, no wheelies, no squirming under braking, no moving about on the bike. It's like it's on rails.

Very, very, understeery rails. Even if I brake well before the corner I seem to be washing wide regularly, and nothing I can do, even braking down to almost a standstill can bring me back on line.

Undoubtedly a major part of that is my lack of experience with the game, and quite possibly the driver... sorry, rider... aids fighting against me. More experimenting required, I think.

So, started career mode, played about with settings a bit.
Two races in, pole for both. Annnd a 16th place in the first race and 9th in the second.

Any tips on set-up? Currently have auto braking and auto tuck on, plus linked brakes. I've dabbled with the suspension but I'm still washing wide if I go into a corner too hot and it takes an age to recover the right line.
Going from first to 10th in one corner on the last lap may be realistic, but it's chuffin' annoying.

I'm talking to myself, aren't I? I'll stop boring you in a mo' but a final update - it's suddenly clicked. Third, third, first, first.
The loading times are a drag and it's not outstanding graphically to say the least but it's proving fun now, I'm enjoying it and it was definitely worth £20.
