Hey,

It's great that we can access any eshop and all, but I'm now stuck at the very last step : actually paying for games.

My credit card is not working on the US eshop and I can't find any way to buy prepaid Nintendo cards that is not restricted to US credit cards. Even on Amazon my payment for this digital code was rejected :

Does anyone know how to proceed ?

Thanks and good gaming to everyone !
Tibob.

Yeah, no gaming storefront auto-converts currency across nations. And Amazon is not your solution - you gotta check specialty retailers.

I suggest Japan Code Supply: https://japancodesupply.com/collections/nintendo-prepaid-card

You buy it on their site, they text you the code for the card, you put it in and voila! You have credit in the account and can get to buying games. At least that's how it worked when I used it for years on the PS3. They're good. But there's plenty of places like this that do it, you just gotta look. I believe NihongoGamer used to do it it as well, but I don't think he still has a website (just youtube and social media stuff)

Alternatively if you have any American friends you trust, get them to buy a code and pay them for it.

Hey there,

Ran into the same issue, and was new to purchasing digital codes. Really needed a fighting game on the switch and tried everything to secure the purchase of KOF on the Japanese eshop. When searching around I ran into play asia, which turned out to be super legit. I only needed a 1000 yen card so it wouldn't have been a huge loss so I took the risk.

Was super cool because they shot me a link to the code in my email, which actually only took 5 seconds to my surprise. Was looking in forums and in the past play asia seemed to be pretty slow at sending codes, bbut doesn't seem to be the case. Check it out!
Have fun as well. Created an account just to help.

Thanks,
Chris

Thanks guys, you're really quick !
I'm actually trying to buy in the USA (and live in Europe). But I'm sure these links will help someone out, though.

EDIT : My bad, I talked too quick !
There is also US cards at PlayAsia and it works great : I bought a 10$ one to check it out, got it within seconds. Now I'm ordering a bigger one.

For people who're interested there's also US cards over here : pcgamesupply.com
(Thanks @manu0 for the tip !)

I'm from Europe and I bought a couple of US eShop cards from play asia and within a couple of minutes I had my codes through and entered in on my US eShop account.
I had my reservations at first about the whole process, but it was much easier than I ever could have anticipated and I recommend it to anyone who is sitting on the fence about buying a game from another region.

The eShop cards on PlayAsia say only for use on the Wii U and 3DS eShops. I assume that's outdated and that these cards are good for the Switch too. Anyone?

Yes, that's outdated. They work on Switch.

As far as responsivity goes, once I got my code within minutes, the second time I'm still waiting (ordered last night).

You can also get digital codes from Walmart.com. I buy my prepaid cards there.

I have a chronic lack of time, for everything.

Now playing: Okami HD, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

I bought a eShop code from Play Asia, as I wanted to get Binding of Isaac, but I bought it on Sunday, and it's now Tuesday, and still haven't received it.

Anyone know a place that's actually reliable?

I'm from the UK and so far I find it impossible to purchase directly from the US eshop. When you go to the payment screen, it asks you to put in your zip code/postal code, but it's only 5 letters, so I put in a US zip code and it just clears the screen and makes me start again. A shame. I go through amazon.com to get my US eshop codes, but you need a valid but random US address tied to your account and also set as your default address to make the order go through. My mastercard worked fine.

Its definitely a hard decision, so enticing to swap eshop regions to purchase games like BOI and Disgea,
but i already have $100 credit tied up to one account (aus) and also i want to accumulate the Nintendo points from purchases to one account, so its a difficult decision :/

I used 97330 as a zip code and it worked no problem, I have never had to put any other form of address on my US account when using an eShop code to buy stuff.

@Spike6958 Had the same issue : 50€ cards are one week delay. (10€ cards are instant, though)

I went to this address and bought another one (got it within minutes) :

@Honelith
Here's some zipcodes (in a tax free state) :
Country: United States
Zip Code: 99551
City: AKIACHAK
State: AK

Anyone able to buy games from foreign eshops using anything other than pre-paid vouchers?

I've been looking at a few games that are cheaper outside of the UK, but it seems pointless if I have to tie money up in a voucher just to buy one game.

It's the 21st Century dagnabbit, why can't I just buy region free?

You guys had me at blood and semen.

What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?

@gcunit Agreed! Don't understand why my credit card would have to be issued in the US to purchase US eShop games... I bet they check with issuer if zip code is associated to your card (and is a US one).... If not you get to the "Verify your information" screen instead of a "Purchase complete" screen. So much for paying $5 less on The Flame in the Flood - not sure it's worth the $5 extra for me to buy from my region

protip. If you are buying on the US eshop use a zipcode from the state of Delaware. Tax free state.

I've been buying USA Gift Cards from www.nintendocarddelivery.com and these guys are great. They accept PayPal and don't ask too many questions.

I think it's been said already, but eshop cards are region locked because they are currency based, the Japanese eshop uses yen for example, so you need to make sure you use cards and/or codes from the correct region. Game specific download codes are the same, you need to make sure you put the code into the correct eshop.
