One thing I've been a bit curious about for both the Bioshock and Borderlands Collections - are the physical and digital collections essentially bundles that just give you each individual game (with their own home screen icons), or are they a true collection with all the games together in one file?

Having all the games separately would let you spread out the downloading and storage space burden.

According to what I read they're all separate.

This is annoying, all the games on the card require an update rather than just being to play one in full and download the others. I've got to wait on 7GB to download now to play the first one.

Did you get an early copy?

Lucky... I'm over here dying to play this

I'm so ready for the largest game file download, 46 GB 🤪 I'm buying digital. I think this is the largest game file size. It will be for me anyway.

Technically they’re split as 3 separate games on the home menu, each with their own file size.

But XCOM 2 at 32gb might be the biggest. Especially if it gets any updates. Witcher 3 is right around 32gb too after the 3gb patch. And Mortal Kombat XI Aftermath may take a shot at the crown. It was over 25gb just for the base game. Who knows how big that single player expansion will be. Final Fantasy X/X-2 is like 29GB.

I'm pretty sure NBA 2K20 is the biggest, 38GB which includes at least 5GB from the console memory.

@JaxonH 🤪There's three games on the Bioshock Collection, now? 🤪 When did this happen? haha I'm just messing with ya. I wasn't clear above, but I was talking about the Bioshock collection. Eshop says 46 GB of space is needed. After downloading it, combined they are 43.6 GB, but I haven't started them. I'm guessing creating save files will add to the file sizes.

Actually, the The BioShock collection eshop page has a typo. File size says 12.5 GB, but that's the size of BioShock 1 Remastered. Down in the fine print where nobody looks, it says 46 GB of space is needed.

@jump Ah, your right, it's a collection three games, so not actually the largest game file.

Wow... ya, that’d do it.

I was updating Mortal Kombat XI last night and file size jumped to 39gb, but after it installed it went back down to like 30.5gb. It’s still crazy to think we’re getting games over 30gb on a portable system. I suppose it’s nothing compared to the 80-100gb file sizes seen on some power consoles, but still.

@jaxonH @jump Wow, embargo for BioShock(switch) reviews still hasn't lifted. That makes me nervous about BioShock performance on the Switch, which I already bought on eshop. Guess I'll have to fire it up and make my own judgement.

??

There’s gameplay and reviews all over YouTube. I’m well into the game.

Performance is flawless. Perfection. The new gold standard of Switch ports (aside from lack of gyro). Full 1080p docked. Full 720p handheld. Framerate is a perfectly straight line.

There’s nothing to be nervous about. All of the ports are immaculate.

@JaxonH Forgive me When i said, "no reviews" earlier, I meant that I looked on metacritic for the Switch reviews, and there weren't any reviews for the Switch versions.

I did see some youtubes for bioshock on Switch, but they were all by users I'm not familiar with.

Thanks for the good news

I'll be waiting a bit before getting these, but I'm admittedly stuck on whether I want to get it physical or digital. On one hand the physical edition seems like a waste given the circumstances, but on the other....Well, I like conserving digital space as much as possible. Would it really have killed them to make the download size for the physical edition less robust? I thought a 256 GB Micro SD card, given my preference for physical over digital, would last me quite some time. If third parties keep pulling stuff like this, on the other hand....

An alternative would be to only get one or two of the games. However, from what I understand, most people seem to think that all the games are worth it in their own way.

I’d get all 3. But the game does use a 16gb card, so it’s not like they totally chinsed out. Still a hefty 30gb download but that’s better than 46gb.

I’m playing the first now. I love how you can find these golden tape reels with commentary video footage it unlocks. You can choose to turn this feature on or off in the settings too. I left it on though. First reel unlocked this nice, lengthy interview (been playing for 10+ min now and the interview segment is still going!) by Geoff Keighly with Ken Levine and the director of Bioshock. And there’s tons of these to find throughout the games. The video footage for the interview looks great too. Not super compressed. You can choose to view them immediately after finding them or later in the menu.

Glad to hear performance is so awesome, this is the one game I'm struggling to hold off on due to money issues. I know it's not the favorite for most people, but the gameplay of 2 is my favorite. Mixing the plasmids and eventually feeling like a true hulking Big Daddy is so fun

@JaxonH Definitely a convincing argument to still go physical there, at least in my case. Thanks! Due to platform preference among other things, BioShock is a series that I've generally been interested in but have never had the opportunity to really play. I'm not normally one that cares for games with FPS elements (unless there are other things mixed in; I enjoyed the Metroid Prime games, for example), but the lore and setting are what will draw me in. Plus, I've read that it can technically be played in different ways.

Let me know your thoughts once you start playing.

I’m always interested in getting the take from Nintendo gamers who don’t have a lot of experience with games that haven’t traditionally been on Nintendo platforms. Especially games like this that are widely regarded as masterpiece titles (and even myself kind of fall into that camp because, despite owning a ton of other games I haven’t played much of them, as I spend so much time on Nintendo gaming)

I bought a PS3 several years ago super cheap just to play all the games I wanted to play that I never got to play as a Nintendo-only gamer, and Bioshock was one of those games. Unfortunately, the Wii U at that time and now the Switch ruined me into hating to have to use the TV to play and so the only game I successfully completed was Oblivion. I did play maybe an hour or so of Bioshock and enjoyed it, so I look forward to eventually getting this, but the Switch has also ruined me into never buying games for full price, so it will have to wait for now.

@JaxonH Will do! Once I pick up the collection, anyway. It'll be some time before I do so. XC: DE will be arriving tomorrow, after all.

Historically, I mainly stuck to Nintendo platforms (mainly handhelds) due to franchise preference and how much cheaper handheld games were. My family didn't have a TV console until I was in high school, the humble Wii. If I had time for another platform right now, I'd pick up a PS4 just to get a chance to play all the exclusives. With the PS5 looming on the horizon however, I can stand to wait a bit longer.

Ok. I'm a baby. We'll get that part out of the way I played an hour of Bioshock 1. While it is cool, at the moment, I'm not feeling the grim/murderous/horror phsycho enemies. The horror sound design & tension is wearing on me. (I admit it's well executed). I know I'm more sensitive to this stuff than most people. Are BioShock 2 or 3 any less grim/murderous/horror? Forgive me if that seems like a ridiculous question. I realize asking this question might be like saying, are there any hershey bars that don't have chocolate?
