Topic: Battery Broken?

Hey Guys,

It all started when I charged my Switch overnight only to wake up to a 45% charge... I thought possibly the system charged slow, however after another hour or so it was still at 45%. So I went ahead and played the switch until it was absolutely dead, then went ahead and charged it again. This time it went to 100%, fixed!? Nope. Last night I played the 100% charge undocked all the way down to like 5% after an hour or so of play. I put the switch on my table too lazy to charge it, assuming I'd wake up to it either dead or at like 3%. However when I woke up the switch was at 50%???

Clearly it's misreading the battery, or something. Called Nintendo and they have no solutions. Called EB and they'd replace but goodbye 10 hours+ of Zelda BOTW save files.

Honestly I love this damn system, but I'm on the breaking point of cutting my losses and returning it. The sad part is I'd never buy it again as BOTW is the main game, and I wouldn't be willing to start all over again.

Any advice? Do you think this is fixable in a patch? Is it hardware? Any of you have the same issue? Ugh.... I thought paying $500 for a gaming system would equal fun and happiness not stress and research.

Budda

It did that with my left Joy-Con. It was at around 25% and the right one at 75%. Which wasn't possible because both were at 100% in the beginning. After charging both a little it was back to normal. I think it could be a firmware problem, idk. =|

So this has been affecting your game time in a meaningful way, right? Also, you seem to play almost exclusively in handheld mode?

Honestly no, the quality of gameplay and actual battery life is perfect. The issue is the battery reader is not working, telling me the system is max charging to 40%... or that the system is at 15% only to be 50% an hour later without charging? It's all very odd. I do exclusively play handheld, it's my favourite mode.

I called Nintendo and they honestly know as little as we do, however they told me to continue playing the Switch for a month or so. That way I could try any updates that come about, and if the problems persist I could just ship the Switch to them for a fix. They also mentioned their repairmen know how to Transfer files, so they'd replace your Switch for a new one with your original files... assuming the issue is a production flaw of course.

Yea, I agree with the response you got from Nintendo. As long as your actual playtime isn't being cut short, I wouldn't throw the baby out with the bath water, so to speak. Your problem seems annoying, for sure, but definitely not enough where I would give up on the console altogether.

Obviously you're not going to time yourself every time you play, but a consolation is that the system will save your game if your battery would suddenly give out on you due to inaccurate readings.
