That's good to read it's from the Mario Kart team, explains why we're getting a port too.Gives Nintendo the chance to expand their range of IP's while still giving us the games we expect.I'm sure the success of Splatoon played a part a part in this..I wonder what Sakurai is up to?
IMHO he mentioned too many interesting things for me to only pick out a few of them, but to anyone who still thinks ARMS is just glorified Wii Boxing, I'd urge you to read the full interview as it explains why it's not (and never has been, not even as a prototype).
My GOTY? Legend Of Zelda: Splat of the child. Ah no, I meant LoZ: Breath of the SPLATOOOON!
Arms looks amazing. The new Splatoon, if you ask me.
Unfortunately a lot of people are just casually dismissing it based on art style and genre. The "Oh, it's just a boxing game" sort of thing. I remember Splatoon gradually picking up more steam after it was announced, as people gradually learned more about it. Hopefully Arms will be the same way.

I remember Splatoon was an almost instant hit, people were making fan art within hours of the E3 reveal with alot of it being based on it's art design and the concept of on-line shooter with a twist behind which then picked up steam.
Imo as genres fighters are at low where as shooters are on a high which is why there's not alot of enthusiasm.
@JaxonH I'm not dissing the game because of the art or genre. I personally love the art style, it's refreshing and shows off the Switch power well.
My problem is that unlike Splatoon which you could watch and immediately get a good grasp of how it plays, as well as being a fast paced game, Arms does none of that. It doesn't showcase itself very well, though everyone who plays it says it's a deep game - but you'd never really get that just by watching. And that's a problem when it comes to making the crucial sale.

@FragRed
Fair enough. You do kind of have a point.
Hopefully the core gamer will be smart enough to investigate on their own accord and hopefully that will lead them to see for themselves what the game has to offer them. Then again, if there's one thing you can count on the masses of gamers to do, it's to remain ignorant and judge a book by its cover... so 😄

@FragRed I agree, it took me and my boyfriend a while to fully grasp how deep and rewarding this game is. I think this game would really benefit being playable at these try-out booths they plan to set up at game stores
Yeah. I won't lie. When I first saw this game, I thought it was just another Wii Boxing motion control game. My original impression of it suffered a bit due to the negative feeling surrounding the thought of Nintendo and motion controls together.
After seeing more of the gameplay I came around to it and thought it looked like a blast. Although, I feel there are a lot of people who shared similar first impressions to the one I had.
Since I was redirecting someone to this thread, I might as well say something.
I may get into this game, dunno why but I can't seem to stay into these types of games. Only other game I own that's similar to this is Pokken, and I stopped playing it after a while. (haven't even beaten the story)
I'll keep an eye on this one, but...

Keep it PG-13-ish.
Maybe you just aren't that into fighting games? I usually prefer rpgs or action adventure games but i sometimes pick up a fighting game once in a while.
Like I said in the thread I started I think the game looks great. Style is nice and it seems that even though you only have spring punches it appears that there is a lot of diversity in the attacks.
I just hope there are more than 5 characters. That seems a bit low for my taste especially if you are paying 60 bucks. comparatively looking at mario kart 8 and smash brothers etc they have so many characters and if you based a games price on the content it gives you then ARMS if it has 5 characters should be 20 bucks.
Can't be a coincidence they matched up two characters with "parries" and special charge mechanics (Spring Man's unlimited low-health charge punches and Min-Min's supercharged left arm). If there was a backstory to this I'd almost imagine them to be rivals.

I really don't know what to think of this game. The character design is absolutely amazing so far, and I'm loving the idea, but I can't help but feel this game won't have enough content to satisfy my needs. I think it needs something like a story mode to win me over, otherwise I'll wait for a price drop I think. I'm not a huge fighting game fan, but part of that is because most of them focus heavily on the online content and often forget about the single player/offline content. Glad to be proven wrong though, because this game has a lot of potential in my opinion. Would be a shame to see that be wasted by a lack of content.
Anyway, thanks to NeoGAF, more characters have been discovered. These were hidden in the background during the weapon select screen. People have increased the brightness to make them more visible. I'll hide them in spoiler tags if anyone doesn't want to see them:
There are four new characters in total. The first one is difficult to tell what he is, he reminds me a bit of that mummy guy though.. The second one is a green Futurama Bender-like robot with weird pink lips...
The third one is a girl, some kind of luchador? No idea what else she could be.
And the last one is another robot looking character, or maybe they're just goggles, who knows?

I have really the perfectly same opinion. The only little difference is that i can accept a lack of a story mode, but what i would like to know is the game modes list, both online and (especially) offline. In the Direct they just showed the 2v2, and we saw (i think what is) a kind of offline mode when Spring Man was throwing punches at some targets to get in-game currency. I just need to know this, but either way i think i'll wait for a price drop because this would be my number 3 on the online front with Splatoon on top and MK8D right behind it
