Topic: Are you planning on hooking the Switch up to a TV?

If the dock doesn't actually have any technology that makes the games run better when displaying on a TV, I'm probably just going to use the dock as a charging station and play games exclusively on the handheld display. I mean, I'll probably hook it up when I first get it to try the Switching feature once or twice for the novelty, but I don't really have the room or need for another home console in my life.

How do other people feel about this?

I will have it hooked up to the TV, but much like the Wii U, not use the TV with it

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

I'll probably primarily use it on the TV, but if someone in my family wants to use the TV, I'll use the handheld screen. The pro controller looks like it'll be more comfortable than the joy-cons, so unless I'm mistaken in thinking that, that's what I'll be using. Plus, looking ahead at the TV is more comfortable than looking down at a portable device, for long periods anyway.

@Ralizah The rumours are that the docking station may not have technology in regards to additional ram or anything, but will enable the games to run better such as higher frame rates and resolutions etc. But personally I will likely be playing it more on the TV than on the go, though long train journeys will be a great time for me to play games on the move.

@FragRed Higher resolution wouldn't surprise me, but if some games actually run significantly more smoothly on the TV, I'll probably just switch out my PS4 for the Switch. There's nothing I'm really looking forward to after Persona 5 anyway.

@CanisWolfred The switching idea is super-neat, but honestly, when I saw the reveal trailer, all that really occurred to me was: "hey, here's a console where I can play off-TV mode anywhere in the house!"

Being honest, I don't really like having to look at something across the room. I can be in my game room, lying on the sofa, with a big, gorgeous HDTV, and all I want to do is play on the GamePad. I guess I really am a portable gamer at heart.

There's something I like about playing on a big TV so for sure I'll be hooking it up. Also there's the fact that the only way to play with a proper d-pad (for any 2-D games) will be by playing on a TV with a Switch Pro controller.

Then again, many times on my Wii U I get tired and would love to continue playing in bed but the distance between my bedroom and Gaming Den is too great with too many walls. That won't be a problem with the Switch.

Choose how you play! That's what the Switch is all about!

I'll have it on the TV to start off with, but I'm sure that eventually I'll enjoy having the dock on my bedside table. I suppose it all depends on if there will be any differences between the two modes, though. I doubt there will be.

It would be cool to have a carrying case that carries the system inside the docking station, along with pouches for games and pockets for controllers and cords. The cool thing about the Switch is, if the case has the system in its dock during travel, it would actually end up being a pretty small case!

I'll probably have it hooked to my TV most of the time, but who knows? I may transition over to using the Switch in a portable manner depending on a few things...like the battery life.

I'll probably use the TV, especially for multiplayer, but I might keep a charging cable near my bed. Depends on if I get a decent TV or not.

I'll have it hooked up to my TV when I'm planning on long playing seasons (like an entire afternoon), but I will use it as a handheld after getting home from work in the week or after dinner, when my family all go to the living room to watch TV.

I have a chronic lack of time, for everything.

Now playing: Okami HD, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

I have a feeling the Switch will be popular amongst people who commute or travel relatively often. If you have to go away from home for the weekend or travel to spend he holidays with your family it'll be a bonus.

Although those were usually the cases when I would work on my DS/PSP/3DS/Vita backlog.

I will have it on the tv next to a window on the 4th floor, just so I don't miss any random rooftop parties.

I'm sure that appearing uninvited and with a gaming device will make me the coolest kid around.

Playing on a 720p 6 inch screen when I have a 58 inch 1080p Samsung TV with a 7.1 surround sound setup?

Uh yeah. I think it will be hooked up to my tv....

I'm assuming the Switch has some extra power and other features when in the dock (extra memory, possibly more downloaded games as well), but even if it didn't I would probably play on the TV more since I prefer playing on the TV overall.

I much prefer portables, but I'd hook it up to the TV once or twice...

@FX102A How do you know you can't use the Pro Controller with an undocked Switch?

Hopefully you'll be able to dock your Switch in multiple docks, so you could have one in the lounge, one in the bedroom etc. if the docks are reasonably priced.

I will connect a dock to a TV, but at least 90% of my Wii U game time has been spent off-TV, so I imagine most of the time I'll play undocked.

You guys had me at blood and semen.

@gcunit That's been one of my big questions, the trailer so far only showed it being played when undocked with the Joycon(s) (solo sideways / individual duo / connected). No evidence yet that you can use the Joycon Grip or Switch Pro controller when it is undocked but unless the signal is sent to the dock itself rather than the console (something I don't expect), you should be able to use them when undocked. This basically raises the number of potential play styles to 9 (assuming you can use the Joycon(s) alone when the Switch is docked and discounting the silly idea of using a portable set up switch as the controller when in the dock).

Regarding the d-pad, I do hope Nintendo or a third party manufacture alternative Joycons with D-pads so you can customise your Switch depending on game type.

I'll play on the 4KTV and let it upscale the resolution to 4K for me.

But I'll probably play on the Switch itself too from time to time- whenever I go downstairs, or to my brothers house, or wherever else. And if they sell GC as VC I'll definitely be playing Fire Emblem Path of Radiance and Metroid Prime 2 and Paper Mario Thousand Year Door on the Switch itself. Always been my dream to play those games on a handheld.
