I am hoping so, I love the 2D Mario platformers especially the co-op and from the sounds of it, the new Mario they are developing won't be out until a few years down.
I think it is safe to say I have the biggest Metroid collection
I'd guess we won't be getting it until 2018, the one Miyamoto is talking about is probably 3D so it's best not to conflict with that. Anyway, I'd like to see the NSMB adopt Mario Maker's level designer, that should make the game a little more interesting and give it some longevity.
I'm expecting a Super Mario Bros. game. They sell very well and basically pay for the higher production of the 3D games. I think the "New" series is finished but 'SMB' is in fact a core franchise and one of the oldest so why wouldn't we get a new one?
I wouldn't be surprised if we got another 2D Mario platformer, but considering the first "New" Super Mario Bros is now 10 years old, and that it's been almost 4 years since the last release, I would imagine (or hope) they'd rebrand a little.
@Bolt_Strike Has it been confirmed that a 3D Mario is coming in 2017? If not, then I expect a 2D Mario sooner than a 3D Mario. 2D Mario is a system seller; perfect game for the launch window. I wouldn't mind something different from the ''new'' series though.

Come on now, you know better than that. N-o-t-h-i-n-g has been confirmed about 2017 other than NX, Zelda BotW, and.... Just Dance.
You guys had me at blood and semen.
What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?
@gcunit Hence my question. I don't think a 3D Mario is coming out in 2017, from what I've read it sounded as if Miyamoto just started throwing some ideas together.

No, but their development schedule makes it more likely to be a 3D game. The 2D Mario team just released Mario Maker last year. The 3D Mario team hasn't done anything since 3D World. The 3D Mario game is most likely closer to completion having been in development 2 years longer than the 2D Mario game.
@Bolt_Strike EAD Tokyo 2 has also worked on other games before, but you're right about the development times. I don't expect a 3D Mario near launch though. Holiday 2017 is my best guess.
I think they should just end the NSMB games but I wouldn't mind seeing a "Best of" pack, preferably combining the best levels of New Super Mario Bros. Wii and U with Nabbit.
DS and 2 I don't really care for.

@Grumblevolcano I agree with the port but I think we may still get one. They have a very quick turnaround time as opposed to 3D mario's and likely a much smaller budget.
