@meppi64 The person who is 50th on the leaderboard goes by the name meppi65, was that score made on an alternative account of yours or is it just some crazy coincidence?
I wonder, if 2 folk using identical profile names placed on the leaderboard would it display both names the same? I'm assuming it would.
@OorWullie Yeah that's my Japanese account.
I tested it out with the info that DashKappei provided for the western and Japanese version of the game to see if it would make any difference if you played with a EU or a Japanese account.
It seemed the exact same to me.
In certain games, it checks your region and changes the game accordingly.
I have Resident Evil Revelations for instance from Japan. So it's Biohazard. But when I log in with my EU account to play, it says Resident Evil. When I use my Japanese account, it reverts back to Biohazard since many games on Switch are universal.
Bit like how the MegaDrive used to do it, at least in the earlier years.
Put in Streets of Rage in a Japanese MD and you'll get Bare Knuckle for instance.
Oh and I ordered the Magic-NS adapter which should be here in a day or two.
But I just thought of something. It's probably not possible to remap buttons on the device itself.
So I'll end up opening up my Vewlix and swapping the buttons around as well like I did with my Switch Hori joystick.
I know you can map games individually, but the bottom 4 buttons are B A ZR ZL which means that if going back and forth between handheld and console, you'd have to either always remap the buttons in the options or play handheld mode with just A and B and the shoulder buttons, which obviously isn't optimal for arcade games.
A bit more work, but oh well.
PS: I'm also enjoying seeing the new people from here pop up on my friendlist.
Anyone who has put in 40 hours into Blazing Star and 70 hours into Puyo Puyo Tetris is A-OK in my book!
@Lroy@GrailUK I just tested 'reset scores and rankings' to see if it wiped out my score on the leaderboard, my score was crap anyway so no great loss. It does wipe it but only after the next time you register a score on the leaderboard, no matter what it is.
I'm going to order an SF30 Pro from Amazon, hopefully I'll have it by tomorrow. I've seen one for Β£29.99 which is a tenner cheaper than the usual price they sell for. The D-pad on the Pro is not great for over head games like this, far too easy to make diagonal inputs in error. Shock Troopers is even worse with it as it messes up your aiming. Pulstar I was fine with it but I feel its costing me lives this time and in an event as prestigious as the NL Weekly Arcade Challenge that's just not on. So an SF30 Pro D-pad seems the way to go, short of buying an arcade stick or one of the newer Pro models. I do really want an arcade stick and I'll get one eventually but I've got too much money going out over the next 2 weeks, I can't justify a luxury like that right now.
Welcome Heavymetal, thanks for joining and sending me a friend request. 40 hours logged on Blazing Star tells me you're probably pretty good at shoot-em-ups.
@Lroy, no I didn't buy Pulstar sadly. It was one of the only few that I don't have and didn't buy it because I had only bought Spinmasters that week. I have quite a few of the other games on OorWullie's list though.

@wasilewski No worries, just had some vague sense I had seen your name on the Global Leaderboards before. May of been for a few other games as we probably own a lot of the same stuff. Great to have you onboard and no doubt we'll all play BLAZING STAR for a weekly challenge at some point.

How odd, I managed to make a high score but the game did not allow me to record it on the game's high score table. Luckily it was properly recorded online.
Much room for improvement, but since I am unsure I will be able to make a better effort, my Billy Mitchell VHS tape is here for posterity.
Docked Mode, Cindy and Ellen (United Nations , F-14 Tomcat) w/ 8Bitdo N30 Arcade Stick.
@Shiryu I'm retiring from this weeks challenge. It can't be working as intended. The levels are simply not cycling. Bloody frustrating because I reckon I can beat that score. GRRR!
I never drive faster than I can see. Besides, it's all in the reflexes.
Managed to get a couple of NY->Jungle after a bloody whole 45 minutes of Paris, Paris, more Paris, Paris again, guess what? Parisi once more... And recorded my highest: 456600, 8th place... Now i need a little Bayonetta to cool it
Well I'm giving up tonight... after a brief sequence of the NY->Jungle permutation I started to get Jungle as second level. This is a good thing and I was getting some GREAT scores at the end of level 3 indeed wich could lead me straight into top 4-5 at least, if I'd played well.
But then agin here it comes, Paris on 4th... and I end up with sub-par 400/410k score.
Randomization would be welcome if all stages would yield about the same points... now it's just a seemingly endless grind untill you get the ideal sequence Jungle -> NY...
The original fire has died and gone, but the riot inside moves on.
Yeah, the random level swap definitely destroys my ambition to continue chasing. Itβs now become a... give it 5-10 attempts, end up with Paris the entire time. Turn it off. Try again later.
I think I got it. If you guys are stuck with Paris, kill off your ships until you get to the game over screen and let it play out. Only then, when the Caravan mode asks you to reset, that's when you reset. The 2nd stage should cycle to something else, or at least within the next 1 or 2 times (because it's a 1 in 3 chance to get Paris, I guess). My theory is that when you let the game over event play out, it changes a seed number or hidden value, so that lets the game cycle to a different stage. When you reset, it 'locks' that value instead by sending the game flow back to beginning of the current loop, without changing anything along the way.
I hope that makes sense and I hope it works out for everyone. I tried it out a number of times over a couple hours and it's worked for me whenever I got Paris.
@masterLEON Thanks for the tip buddy. Will give it a try this evening and give the game a few more runs. I'd like to crack the top 10 global leaderboard if I can manage it.

@masterLEON makes sense. Just tried, got Paris on 2nd, let my ships die to the game over screen, next run I was still stuck in Paris; tried another time, on the next run I've got NY on 2nd... but Paris came on 4th . On the next run Paris came 2nd once again; I let myself die again and the following one was NY->Jungle (and i played it really bad, but that's another story).
Speaking of stage progressions, did anybody manage to get Jungle -> NY? I've done 30/35 runs so far, but never ever played that sequence... don't know if it's just bad luck or what

@RetroGamerAndrew I had Jongle->New York a couple of times after one another actually, but never since then.
masterLEON might be on to something there.
I'd say if we find ourselves in a similar situation in the future, we pick a different mode for said game before the week is up. Like a normal play through.

When I played it last night my scores weren't registering for some reason . I was on 310k but then reset my score and ranking to see what would happen. My old score didn't reset when I played it in the afternoon, even after scoring around 300k 3 times. When I put it on last night though my high score was only 91k.I played another couple of rounds, both times scoring around 300k again and was never asked if I wanted to register it. I'm going to play it in a bit, hopefully it's back to normal again.
@OorWullie You might need to start the game in the regular mode not 'high-score' or 'caravan' and then hit the plus button to get the usual Hamster menu up. I recall in there is the option to do something with posting scores online. Maybe it is reset or yes/no toggle? I can't remember off the top of my head exactly. Anyway, that is worth a shot as you may have inadvertently stopped your scores from being uploaded to the online leaderboard.
