Topic: Anyone think the Wii series will continue on Switch?

When I say Wii series, I mean games like Wii Sports and Wii Fit, not ports of old Wii games. Does anyone think there will be new ones on Switch, or have we seen the end of them with the Wii U?

On one hand, the fact that they have "Wii" in the title would make it a bit redundant without turning the series into something completely different since the Switch is obviously not called Wii, and many gamers see them as casual, motion control trash nowadays.

But on the other hand, it seems strange for a company to just abandon one of their most successful game franchises, and the Miis on my Switch need something to do.

The wii series is a satured market. Nintendo already sold what was possible. Right now, his focus need is different.
you can use your miis in smash bros or mario kart.

They wont call it "Wii ___" any more, but I think they will make more games like it. I'd say 1, 2, Switch kind of counts.

@judaspete I completely forgot about 1 2 Switch. I guess that kinda counts, but it seems to be more of it's own thing.

@Yosheel I would totally buy Switch Music, I had way too much fun with Wii Music. Everyone just wrote it off as a weird, crappy Guitar Hero clone, but the two really didn't have much in common. I wonder if people would like it better now, since no one really cares about Guitar Hero anymore.

@ReaderRagfish I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone refer to Wii Music as a Guitar Hero clone. What people seemed to dislike about Wii Music as I recall was the lack of challenge and goals, it all was just kind of pointless.

I love Wii Fit and Wii Sports Resort so I'd be happy to see them return (probably with a different name like Nintendo Sports and Nintendo Fitness or something) but I'm not sure if there's much chance of it happening.

@JoakimZ I remember hearing it from both critics and players, along with the lack of goals as you stated. I still do feel like many people judged it unfairly though. It may be more of a toy than a game, but that doesn't mean it isn't fun.

How much you enjoy Wii Music really depends on how creative you are, as if you aren't creative then it will just feel pointless to you to simply create things with no real goals or rewards for doing so. This is something that can also be said of many other art forms, like drawing or writing or even music in general.

Labo I think shows can still have fresh ideas without falling back on the Wii line of games. I liked them myself but I'd like to see them continue with the fresh ideas.

the only thing that will live on from the wii is that arm flapping as seen in games already like Arms and Mario Tennis , I see more sports games like golf etc that will use the Wii style of swinging etc but I dont know if it will ever be labled wii sports or fit

Labo was pretty Wii-like. Especially the Robot Suit.

@JoakimZ : I thought Wii Music was maligned due to it only containing public domain music, such as nursery rhymes and the like.

I really hope Wii Sports and Wii Fit at least live on in some shape or form. They could just as easily retain the Wii name, but it would perhaps make more sense just to rebrand it as Mii, due to the heavy use of Miis in "Wii" branded games.

Wii Party U was great as well, but I would rather that the Wii Party series lives on in the form of Mario Party or preferably a WarioWare game instead.

@ReaderRagfish Well, you can use your Mii's in the soon to be released Go Vacation, which previously was a Wii title, and is for all intents and purposes, a deluxe version of Wii Sports Resort.

And I would agree with putting 1-2 Switch on the list as a Wii replacement as well. It's the Switch version of Wii Play or Wii Party. And I'm pretty sure that more stuff like that will be released in the future.

It seems many people view stuff like labo and 1 2 switch as the continuation. That makes sense, though they feel more like spiritual sequels/distant relatives compared to the direct sequels we got on the Wii U which had Wii in the title. Though I suppose this is as much as we're gonna get.

If not Wii Music, I'd love another Wii Party. I know someone's gonna be like "But we're already getting Mario Party, what's the difference?" and I love Mario Party too (even the lame ones) but Wii Party really was its own thing. It had a greater focus on social interaction with the people around you, rather than just giving you a bunch of random minigames and calling it a party.
One of our favorites was where it asks everyone a bunch of personal questions and you have predict how a certain player will answer them to score points. Or the mode where you play normal minigames, but a random player is given an unfair advantage, and everyone has to figure out who the cheater is while still performing well in the minigame. I don't remember Mario Party ever doing something along those lines.

I don't see why Nintendo would make a website so you can design Mii's and transfer them to your Switch if they didn't plan to use them beyond Smash and Mario Kart.

Isn't it obvious that Falco Lombardi is actually a parrot?

@ReaderRagfish Sounds a lot like the Jackpot Party Pack games. You ever tried those? They might make a worthy successor if Nintendo doesn't do it.

@link3710 I haven't played jackbox, but I do own many of the old You Don't Know Jack games on pc and ps1. That's another favorite. So many inside jokes were created by those games.
