@DefHalan I know. The word is out, we know what the NX is. That's all I needed personally. I rather see Nintendo reveal all the games in 2017 - on a regular basis - to create enough hype to convince all the impulse buyers, than revealing stuff now that a large part of the crowd won't care about anymore in five months from now.
So yes, while that means we'll be in the dark for another two months, at least we know that their marketing department has made some improvements compared to previous years.
Although Bethesda won't comment on Skyrim (sounds more like an NDA than a ''no'' to me), Nintendo hasn't said much either about their ''new'' games. I too understand the skepticism, and I raised some question too when Bethesda made that comment. However, my best guess is that Nintendo wanted to focus on the hardware, the Switch, and didn't want any game announcements to overshadow the hardware reveal itself. And besides, now they can still ''confirm'' these semi-confirmed games at a later point, that'll generate some headlines for sure.
Releasing all info now would kill the console before release. What should they show in March that gives a wow factor if they give everything away? No one will be able to buy it before then, why should they use up all their fireworks before then?
2 weeks ago people complained that Nintendo didn't have time to show the uniqueness of the console. And they were proven wrong. Would the trailer been as good if it was released earlier? Wii U wasn't even the finalized concept in its launch trailer. So isn't it better to get more accurate info closer to launch than mostly sketchy info well before it goes on sale?
@Octane Its fine if they want to focus on hardware, but they aren't selling me on the hardware, which is why I don't feel excited for the NX yet. Bethesda not talking about it makes me feel it will be a gimped version of Skyrim. It will be a version of Skyrim that can't compete with the remaster that is coming to other systems. I could be wrong but them being quiet about it doesn't fill me with confidence. I am not asking Nintendo to reveal everything but a simple statement of, "the games show in the trailer are actual games we are working on and planning to release in the launch window but some may be delayed," would be nice. Instead we are left with what I can only assume are tech demos, especially since the actors in the ad weren't actually playing the games.
@BiasedSonyFan They have their ad that is generating a buzz. But they don't have anything else. I am not saying they shouldn't have done this ad this way, I am just saying I expected more because Nintendo hasn't sold me on anything and I am not excited. If I had some idea of software that will be on the Switch, other than Zelda which I can get on my Wii U, then maybe I could be excited but currently I don't feel excited for the Switch.
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

I agree the reveal lacked a lot but complaining an ad doesn't show realistic situations is a weird complaint. They are showing you console features and over exaggerating them to more clearly show you what the system can do.
I was expecting more software but we didn't get anything. We saw Splatoon, Mario Kart, and a 3D Mario game but no confirmation those will be games release for the system, they were probably tech demos. Even Bethesda won't confirm Skyrim for the Switch and that is one of the games most people care about in that trailer.
Mario Kart and 3D Mario are a given though. Splatoon is very likely, but I would be shocked if none of those titles were on the Switch at some point.

The switch trailer had me cringing from start to finish....half of those scenarios would NEVER happen...
I disagree. I live in the U.S., and I can totally picture that stuff happening. The one with the girl going to hang out with her friends and she brings the system along? That happens to me ALL the time. Even now. And I'm 30, hanging out with other people in their 30s doing very adult things, but also wanting to play some games. And packing up the Wii U, cables and cords and all, was a huge pain.
Also, you need to think outside your own culture. The Asian culture has huge differences to us in the West and Australia - the way they approach gaming, traveling, hanging out. I mean, a 30-something dude in Japan probably has a MUCH different commute plan than a 30-something dude who lives in Bumblenowhere Texas. The portability is going to be awesome for people who routinely take the subway/carpool to work. I even know people who take short flights to work nearly every day. I mean, geez. If I had a 30-minute subway ride from the Bronx down to Alphabet City every day (and I've worked with many people who do), the Switch would be a godsend.
You're just not leaving your box to think about how other people live their lives and how this could fit in.
That being said - yea, maybe the basketball one was ridiculous lol
Yeah, I'm not going to be purchasing any Nintendo consoles until they have been out on the market for at least 3 years. I feel extremely burned by Wii U. I never would have spent so much money on a console that was only going to last a couple years before releases started to dry-up. In all honesty I'm enjoying the PS3 far more and it's been getting far more exciting releases this year than the Wii U has which is a serious problem since it was launched 6 years before the Wii U and is currently much cheaper than the Wii U...
You shouldnt restrict yourself ti some 3 year plan. I am going to buy the switch no matter what for christmas. Just check if theres any appealing games for you and take the plunge.
My being disappointed or less excited about the reveal is partially related to the fact that the succes of the switch will depend to a great amount on non nintendo fans. Like I said before its all about the games and I could have lived with the wii u a couple more years if nintendo had continued to support it.
@rukiafan7 - there are going to be a lot of people that feel this way especially parents who just shelled out cash for the Wii U and the *New 3ds which now seem like bad investments with the Switch on the horizon. I think I feel even more ripped off by the *New 3ds if the Switch is indeed going to be the replacement.
This backlash happened to Sega back when they jumped consoles too much (cd, 32x, Saturn, Dreamcast)
"I want to see the games it has a few years in before buying, if at all, first"
I like this logic, make sure its a worthwhile purchase, and its one a lot of people are sharing as a sentiment.
With one caveat.
Wait to buy it based on games. Launch sales aren't good because people are waiting. System isn't selling, whoops, there goes the games.
Outlooks like that, while sound for a consumer, negatively impact the industry and consumers who could have helped but didn't for whatever reason. Not buying within the launch period or first year is an issue as developers will quickly pull support.
I'm not saying rush out and buy it, I'm saying revise from 3 years to 1 year. Your purchase is more likely to encourage developers to stick around, which benefits everyone.
Now Playing: Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, Crash Bandicoot 4
@BiasedSonyFan I would probably be interested once the software is unveiled. That is my point. We need software announcements because right now the hardware isn't exciting me.
@TheLZdragon I agree we are most likely getting them, I am just not taking them as confirmed.

Nintendo designs for the japanese population first and foremost. Which is a bit confusing to me, from a business sense, but makes perfect sense in a cultural way. Personally, I dislike that they're limiting the hardware due to their insistence that it portable, and I'll be paying for a console where I won't use it for its intended feature (playing off the TV) more than maybe a handful of times during its lifetime.
So, needless to say they need to impress me leading up to launch. They said it's a HOME console so they need to show me what's fun about playing it at HOME. Not in silly millenial-heaven situations.
Yeah sure Karen, bring your Nintendo thing to the rooftop party! Let's all play 3.5" splitscreen mario kart!
I guess its anticipation. Everyone wanted to finally see the switch. Dont get me wrong, my critisizm may not have been too fair and nitpicky in some parts. My disappointment with nintendo abouts its wii u treatment and abandonment and the related necessity of a console being successful to have nintendo supporting it may have led to it. We will see what they do with the switch and how it works out. The good thing that I am certain about is that we will see numeroua nintendo releases that will keep us busy and thats all I basically care about. It cannot get worse than the wii u I presume and that was quite good for me in the end, it just could have been better.
@Rukiafan7 I totally understand where you're coming from. I bought my Wii U on launch day back in 2012, and despite putting a few thousand hours into it, the console feels underused. It's also reached a point where I know that I will be getting very little use out of it in the future, since I'm already planning on purchasing a PS4 very soon to replace it, before getting the Switch in March. So personally, despite the feeling of my Wii U being heavily underused, I'm still planning a launch day purchase for the Switch.

I sound pretty much like you. I use my Wii U all the time, but I went through this phase where I thought it wasn't "good enough "or something like that, so I went and bought a PS4.
Biggest waste of money in my gaming career. Honestly. (The PS4, that is)
I thought I would love the Uncharted series. To me, it was pretty meh - just like any other action/platformer (I think the Tomb Raider remasters are far better, actually). The Order turned out to be a dud. The Last of Us Remastered was cool, but turned out to be the only game I actually replayed and spent a decent amount of time in. Aside from those titles, 90% of the other stuff is third-party and available on Xbox/PC as well.
Overall, I really wish I didn't buy it. Just giving you my feedback before you maybe make the same mistake. But, different strokes for different folks.

Don't be daft! Buy it at launch or later for some upcoming games and current ones that may bum you

@skywake and you don't have to share it. I don't remember E3 2006, so I can't comment on the Wii trailer. I also don't know what software had been confirmed before then. Even if all those games weren't confirmed before that video (which I kinda doubt) Nintendo was at least talking about software. We aren't going to be getting any software announcements until 2017. If the Switch launches March 31st, then they have 3 months to announce and show off their games. We will see what happens.
They did confirm a lot of these games because this was at E3. I'm pretty sure that all of them were playable on the showroom floor. I remember Wii Sports and Twilight Princess being demoed live on stage and I'm not sure what else was. They also had a trailer just for software which didn't get as much coverage. Some of those games never saw the light of day but most came to the Wii eventually. The games in the above trailer were pretty legit. Of course they were, they were less than 6 months away from launch!
Anyways I think you were kinda misunderstanding my point. I wasn't saying that what they did for the Wii is equivalent to what they're doing now for the Switch. What I'm saying is that this close to launch there's no reason to believe they're just making all this stuff up. The Switch has been known to be in development long enough that it would have this much content. Especially given that 5/6 of the games shown in the trailer are effectively ports.
@rallydefault lol. That's me!!! well, I'm not in the trailer, but I do that all the time with my Wii U. Whenever we were hanging out, or going to get together for new years or spending the night over at each others houses, I would always be the one bringing over Smash Bros and Mario Kart and as many controllers as I have. Being able to do that but with a lot less cables is a godsend.
@Rukiafan7 me too. I'm going to wait until I find out if the console is region locked. If it is, then I'm probably going to skip it unless I see 5 or more games I feel like I absolutely have to play get released on it. Otherwise I have no problem waiting 3 years or so for the next version or a price drop.
btw, the ps3, great, right? Still my favorite console. I play on it more often than I do my PS4 or my Wii U.
