Topic: Am i right to feel alittle disheartened with the Switch (No KH3)

I dunno. Maybe it's just me but the more things that get announced, especially this time of year around e3. After watching the EA thing. And then watching the KH3 trailer. I feel kinda like the honeymoon period is over. The Xbone rarely sells any consoles in Japan yet are still getting KH3. The Switch on the other hand is selling like hotcakes everywhere world wide and devs don't seem to give a crap. Thats how i see it as virtually all the games i have seen that are coming out are either for the PS4/Xbone or heck even the 3DS. In a way, and i know i have said this before it feels like the Wii U all over again. With the Scorpio coming out soon too that don't help. Am i right to feel like this or am i totally justified? As i feel that KH3 would have been perfect on Switch. Heck we don't have to have the fancy graphics like the other two have. I'd settle for the HD remaster graphics.

To be fair, they probably started development long before they ever knew what a switch was or had a dev kit. No doubt they're just focused on finishing the game on hardware they've been working with than trying to make it fit on the switch hardware, which is brand new and unfortunately not as powerful. Not saying it can't be done, but it's understandable why it's not.

@Moms-Meowth Nintendo's strengths at the moment are their encouragement of indies and their own games (both current and newer IPs). As the console is selling really well, it would be silly for 3rd party devs not to get onboard as they would be ignoring a good chunk of the market share and by doing so losing £££. My advice is give it time, the games will come, in the meantime enjoy what's there and what's soon to come.

Let's just wait until E3 blows over in a weeks time, but I share your concern too.

Saying that, the more I read about FIFA on the Switch, the better it has any right to be after all the grumbling about it (myself included).

I just don't think it is realistic to expect the so-called big AAA third party games to appear on the Switch, given the slightly finicky nature of the audience as well as being relatively underpowered compared to the other two.

Kingdom Hearts III is on the Xbox One because it was announced when the Xbox One was first unveiled to the public. Neither Square-Enix or Microsoft were expecting the low(er) sales, but what's done is done.

Let's come back to this in a weeks time, seeing as we shall (hopefully) have a much clearer picture by then!

@peek-a-boo Agreed, lets see what E3 tells us. To be honest, I never bought the Switch with the intention of the big AAA's coming out, I simply don't have the time for them any more. Give me a Shovel Knight or Sonic Mania over a Battlefront II any day...

I guess. Hopefully things change really. Much like everyone else here i want Nintendo to be a success

I'd just be happy they finish the game before 2020 on the platforms they've been building it on for years. To ask them to port it to Switch, even for a release after the PS and Xbox version's release, would take away time and resources from the team and delay all versions EVEN further.

Honestly, I'd just wait as many third party devs were probably quite cautious in regards to Switch sales (I mean, even Nintendo themselves were too cautious) due to the whole WiiU disaster and so on. Laying low (AKA release not too expensive, single A titles and ports) and watch how Switch does was what most third party devs went with, which is a very sensible decision I would have done so myself. If sales keep up the way they are, games from first, second and third partys will come. Give it time, not only us fans were surprised at how well Switch has been doing.

To be fair KH3 is a long way away so I don't think you need to feel like you're missing out on too much. It's not releasing anytime soon so either way we aren't playing it haha

If you bought a Switch (even back in 2016 when the rumours all pointed to the same thing, let alone the October reveal) expecting AAA games, you have yourself to blame. As harsh as that may come off, it's not a personal attack. Once we first saw the hardware in that 3 minute teaser, it was absolutely 100% apparent what the limitations would be. Publishers and developers are not to blame. Nintendo is.

There is a reason more powerful hardware came out in 2013 to replace 2 major consoles. It isn't rational to expect developers to continue holding back their games just to allow them to fit on significantly less powerful hardware. Like it or not, the Nintendo Switch IS underpowered. It is marginally more powerful than a WiiU, which was marginally more powerful than the 360/PS3, which launched 8 and 7 years respectively before it. And it launched 4 years (or 3.5 I suppose) AFTER the competition.

Nintendo stuck with an archaic design on the N64, we know how that ended.
Nintendo went with an inferior design on the Gamecube, we know how that ended.
Nintendo went with inferior hardware on the Wii, it's the same situation with 3rd party games as it is now.
Nintendo went with inferior hardware on the WiiU, everyone left them behind.

There is a pattern here and the Switch is continuing this on. Unrealistically underpowered in the age it launches in. Nintendo are the only ones to blame. I dislike EA more than almost every other company and don't buy their games, but I won't deny they push technology. To incorporate the Switch into their main games/engines, the overall floor would be lowered, which also lowers the overall ceiling of what can be achieved. Are EA (or any publisher in theory) going to do that when they have a market of 25 million Xbox Ones, 55 million PS4s and hundreds of millions of PC users? No, and it's unrealistic to expect that.

I have a Switch, since day one, I love it but I'm being 100% realistic about it. I knew going in it'd be a Wii U 2 for me, in the sense that it's for Switch exclusive games, not for AAA games or multiplats. This might scorn Nintendo only gamers, but as the minority, they, sadly, do not count. They made the choice of what company to back, and when it comes to big AAA games or 3rd party support, they made the wrong choice.

Sure, we'll have amazing games like Breath Of The Wild, Mario Kart, Mario, etc I'm certainly not denying that. But making the Switch as a choice, most Nintendo gamers and fans ignore the rest of the industry as it leaves them behind and blame everyone but the company at fault, Nintendo.

XB1 has around 30 million units sold. Nintendo Switch has 3 million units sold.

KH3 has been in development forever and if the Switch ever gets a port of the game, it will be a few years after it has been released. Not many developers want to take their vision and dumb it down so it can play on another device. What if you created something perfect in your eyes, then was asked to start stripping it down. Probably not a very good feeling.

The Switch will survive and thrive with games made for the Switch. Not games stripped down to play on the Switch.

And yes the honeymoon is over. The first year for a new console is always like this though. Eventually the Switch will be getting many games released every month just like the PS4 and XB1.

@Pigeon me too, I buy Nintendo consoles for the Nintendo IPs , I will buy games like NBA playgrounds on the Switch instead of my PS4 but I did not buy it expecting it to replace my PS4 for the big blockuster AAA games

The trouble with Switch is...ALL THE GAMES WOULD SUIT BEING ON IT! Hahaha. Heck, I am getting hyped for a Fifa game because of the Switch (and I haven't touched it since the Megadrive!) Don't be disheartened by the Switch. It's genius! Be disheartened by the amount of effort some third parties want to devote to making games for it.

I never drive faster than I can see. Besides, it's all in the reflexes.

Switch is suited for getting games that other systems do not have. This means third party games that don't appear on ps4 or xb1 and also the first party games.

Then there's the indie scene which works best on switch out of the other consoles due to the hybrid formfactor. Stardew valley is the perfect game for a portable formfactor.

You have to be realistic about your expectations. The Switch is a hybrid, but mostly it's a really powerful handheld. Top-level console ports are not going to happen here. What will hopefully happen is very advanced handheld games, console experiences that are not super demanding, and ports of bigger games that are a few years old and don't require the most advanced hardware.

So, no KH3, but if we can get something like an updated Dream Drop Distance I'll be very happy. The 3DS had no shortage of great games, and its hardware was "inferior" several years ago. (I don't really like the word inferior here, it has bad connotations and makes it sound like Nintendo weren't able to build decent hardware, while the reality is they chose a certain kind of technology that suited their plan).

If we get a lineup like 3DS has had, you'll get your money's worth. But it will take time, and again, it won't be the graphic showcase games that Sony and Microsoft built their whole reputation around.

In my opinion, and I know some may disagree, but I would love to see some 3rd party remasters of snes up to the ps2 era remaster/remakes. Most people agree that they are fine with remasters of 6th generation classics and the addition of motion controls could really add to a lot of those games. I'd also love to see some Wii games remastered in hd. Unlike some gamers, I'm fine with the switches first year lineup, and Hope third parties opt to give us games tailor made for Nintendo fans. I would love a new contra, castlevania, and other dormant third party franchises to arrive on the switch in hd.

The Xbox One is popular and third party games sell well on it. Third party games simply don't sell on Nintendo consoles.
