ComradeThom

So here is a fun little thought experiment. Due to an unexpected misfire of Magikoopa's wand, YOU have been granted the power to bring 9 games/apps to the Switch. However there is a catch... Your nine games must fit into the following categories:

You must pick two new first party Nintendo games.
You must pick two new third party games
You must pick two remasters/remakes of existing released games
You must pick two applications (Like Youtube, etc...)
and finally you must pick one wild card which can be one additional game which can fall into any of the previous categories.

I'm fascinated to see your picks!

Here are mine:

New First party Nintendo games:

1. Warioware - Perhaps a more niche choice, but for me nothing quite matches the enjoyment and lunacy of Warioware's quickfire bizarro mini games. My favourite Warioware experience was with the 'Smooth Moves' entry for the Wii, as the multiplayer mode quickly became the most played game at family parties where everyone of all ages could benefit from the zany gameplay. If Warioware could bring back its strong character in a new entry which expands its multiplayer, I think it would make for a unique experience that Switch players looking for a party game which is more leftfield than Super Mario Party would really appreciate... Well at least I would.

2. Rythmn Paradise/Heaven - I need a new entry to Rhythm Paradise. I don't want it... I NEED it. The Switch's touchscreen seems to be the perfect device to take this series forward and bring it to a broader install base. This addictive little game has a cult following and even the game's creator has shown interest in reviving the series for the Switch. All the pieces are in place for it a glorious return of Nintendo's cutesy and quirky rhythm game and with one of my wishes I would make it happen.

New third party games

1. Spyro the Dragon - Whatever we see in the next installment from Spyro after its successful and beautiful reboot by Toys For Bob, it must come to the Switch. I believe the Switch and its install base are the natural home for the late 90's early 2000's 3D platformer. Spyro with its majestic gliding mechanic and sense of freedom, combined with its nostalgia factor makes the series a must-play for me and seeing as I get to have it may way in this post, Spyro will become a staple for Nintendo Platforms.

2. Crash Bandicoot - Wherever Activision decides to take the orange furry Bandicoot, I desperately do not want to see him returning to Sony as an exclusive mascot for the Playstation system. Crash, like Spyro, belongs on the Switch, as do any future Crash games. So with my fourth gaming wish, I'm going to keep Sony from buttering up Activistion, and ensure that any future Crash games come to the Switch.

Remasters/remakes of existing released games

1. The Stanley Parable Ultra Deluxe - I care not if its been given the derogatory 'genre' label of 'walking simulator', The Stanley Parable has been and continues to be one of my favourite games of all time. This meta, comedy indie title which explores the limitations of player agency in video games, is as thought provoking as it is laugh out loud funny. Thankfully an extended addition of the game with extra content and more endings is currently in the works, so I pray that it comes to the Switch so that I can enjoy one of my favourite games on my favourite device for playing games.

2. Disney's Hercules - Ever since the release of 'Disney Classic Games: Aladdin and The Lion King' on Nintendo Switch, I haven't been able to shake the thought that the Disney game that I actually want on my Switch, for nothing other than pure self indulgent nostalgia, is the 1997 Disney's Hercule action game. I'm probably remembering it with Rose tinted glasses and it doesn't hold up today, but heck its my list so I get to the pick and I personally would love the chance to revisit this game from my past. If Aladdin and The Lion King are good enough for the Switch, Hercules should be too!

Applications

1. Netflix - Because... well... it's Netflix. C'mon. If i'm too tired to play a game and I want to veg out and watch a show but a family member has occupied the living room TV with some abysmal soap opera... I suppose I could plug headphones into my phone and squint at the screen... I could just wait for the TV to become free... But god damn it, I'm a resident of the 21st century and I should have a way to turn the device in my hands into a portal for the entertainment I desire at exactly the point I need it. Damn straight I'm entitled but regardless, bring on the Netflix.

2. A Nintendo Social Media Platform - So this is a bit of an 'out there' concept, but the idea is to be able to connect to other Switch owners who own the same games as you through a custom Nintendo created social media app, developed and maintained by Nintendo. Just seems like a neat idea to me, but if handled badly it could become be an unmoderated cesspit. If handled well it would really help create a community feeling around each of the games you buy for the Switch.

Wild Card

And finally for my wild card.... I'm going to say I want a port of the MediEvil 2019 remake. Sadly this to me seems to be the least likely of all my above wishes because its a Sony owned IP, which to date has been exclusively released on Sony's platforms. However, to me, it just feels like the game would fit like a very comfortable glove to the Nintendo Switch's capable hand. The character of the game, the quirk of the world, the nature of the gameplay just scream to be played by me on a handheld device while curled up on the sofa. Also, yes I did play it on the PSP back in the day, but I want to play it again in its beautiful upgraded graphics without having to invest in a PlayStation for that privilege.

Anyway, those are my picks. I would love to see yours!

Magician

Punch-Out and F-Zero
DMC5 and RE2 Remake (neither of which are possible because the RE Engine isn't supported on Switch.)
Metal Gear Solid HD Collection and Zone of the Enders HD Collection (but Konami is....Konami, sadly.)
Twitch and...I really don't use my Switch for apps so...whatever.
And the wildcard would be...anything from Vanillaware. Dragon's Crown, Muramasa, etc.

Switch Physical Collection - 1,247 games (as of April 15th, 2024)

This is a cool idea!

I'll bite.

Nintendo
Star Fox: Freebooter
Play an independent contractor in the Lylat system. Essentially a Star Fox-themed version of Elite/Freelancer/Privateer/X3 in which you can play a custom animal character, starting out in a crappy ship and gradually earning money to upgrade it or trade it in... You know the drill. While I'd love a straight Star Fox game, if it's an on-the-rails shooter I wouldn't have much interest in it. Also, I think this idea could be a great way to open up the Star Fox universe.

F-Zero Grand Prix
Fairly obvious, basically a proper sequel to GC with a full career mode and the custom racer building from GC.

3rd Party
Phantasy Star Offline
I loved playing Phantasy Star Online on my Gamecube but I always played it offline. I'd love for a proper version of something like that. Basically a sort of sci-fi Diablo with a Phantasy Star theme.

Timesplitters 4
This one is, quite frankly, massively overdue.

Remasters
Mario Sunshine
My favourite 3D Mario game I'd love a chance to play it with updated HD graphics. I know it's rumoured to be coming out, and that's sweet but until it does happen, it's on my wishlist. My only concern is how to control FLUDD properly without analogue triggers.

Star Control 2
One of my favourite games of all time. I'd love to see it updated for modern hardware, although they'd have to be very careful not to damage any of the things that made it such an awesome game.

Apps
I've never used an app on my Switch and I'm unlikely to ever do so.

Wildcard
Zombies HD Remake
I loved this on the SNES, played it again recently on my RetroPi, and it's still fantastic but I'd love for a proper full-on overhaul and update.

Cool idea for a thread.

First party:
WarioWare - I love the series and agree that Smooth Moves is the best one. A new entry with more wacky motion controls would be great.

Ever Oasis sequel - I played the original game last year and it was a lot of fun, and I think a big HD sequel would be amazing.

Third party:
Ace Attorney 7 - I like AA, not much else I can say here really. I haven't played any of the spin-offs yet though so I should probably do that before begging for a new game.

De Blob 3 - I couldn't really think of another third-party series that I'm particularly invested in but I wouldn't say no to another De Blob game.

Ports/remasters
Kid Icarus Uprising - I don't normally buy ports of games I already own, but I think even I would be unable to resist this game in HD with traditional or gyro controls as well as some new content (not that it needs it).

Kingdom Hearts Collection - As someone who likes RPGs, Disney, and weird crossovers, I've always wanted to play this series but never have.

So, Miiverse? I'd like Miiverse back as well, that would be lovely.

Discord - I'm not too fussed about this one, but it would be quite nice to be able to stream Switch gameplay that my friends could watch, like you can on PC.

Wild card
Rare Replay - There are lots of games on here that I've been wanting to play for ages but I don't have an N64 or Xbox One. Put it on the Switch, throw in all of Rare's Donkey Kong games (and Star Fox Adventures, why not) and you'd have probably the best game compilation ever.

First party, a new F-Zero and 2D Metroid would be cool.
Third party, I'd love a sequel to Metal Gear Rising, and maybe another Bioshock game.
For remasters, a MGS collection would be fantastic, and Wind Waker HD. I know it came out on the Wii U, but it's my favorite game of all time and I'm going to be greedy.
App wise, I'll probably sound like a broken record for this thread, but having Miiverse back would be fantastic. It was such a stupid platform, but so much fun. I loved how it was implemented in games like Wind Waker HD, and it always made me feel a bit closer to all of the other Nintendo players, something which Nintendo has a long track record of not doing well at all. Other than that, probably Twitch. I don't know, I don't really care personally since I can just switch back to my Xbox for those.
Wild card, maybe a Persona 5 port. Seems like a thing that people or either adamantly for or against, but I'd love to try out the series, though I don't want to buy a PS3 or PS4 in order to do so. Pretty unlikely thing to happen, but I think it would fit pretty well on the Switch.

Damn. Wind Waker. Can't believe that slipped my mind. I'd maybe change out Mario Sunshine for that (especially if the analogue trigger thing can't be fixed). Wind Waker utterly captivated me. I've played it through a few times (not the HD remake though, never had a Wii U) and love pretty much everything about it. So many awesome moments, and the whole thing was like playing a cartoon. I can remember it blew my mind when it first came out. And the ending is perfect. Made me feel like a proper big damn hero.

So yeah, it's a hard choice between that and Sunshine. I think Sunshine still wins for me, but only by a very narrow margin, and only because I have a (possibly unhealthy) love for Hawaiian shirts.

DevlinMandrake

DriftDT

@DevlinMandrake Oh yeah, Wind Waker is fantastic. I haven't played a game since that feels like such a huge adventure as much as that one. I haven't played Sunshine before, but I'd love to try it. I hope they bring it to switch, especially with all of the rumors of how the 35th Mario anniversary will be bringing a bunch of older Mario games over. Hawaiian shirts are great, the perfect blend of casual and professional. Might start breaking some of mine out as we get into the hotter months lol

Do it dude. I only wear Hawaiians during summer. I love them and they love me.

I know exactly what you mean about Wind Waker. As much as I love BotW and think it's a better game, there was something amazing about the first time you set out in The King of Red Dragons and realise you can go wherever you want. That and the cartoon graphics and silly humour mixed in with some nicely scary moments and slightly darker storytelling had me hooked. I'd play it again in a heartbeat on Switch just to hear that theme and get the feeling of setting out across the waves.
My missus watched me play through Wind Waker when we first got together, and even though she's not a gamer, she loved watching the story and gameplay. Very few games meet that seal of approval.

@DevlinMandrake your idea for StarFox is the best I’ve heard in ages. I’d definitely play that!

I’d always thought a traditional C&C esq. RTS In the Lylat system would be good but your idea is better. It’s also a genre Nintendo ha never really touched (and one that would benefit from a Nintendo imagining).

Also - the blue skies and work free days of lockdown just put the music of Wind Waker in my mind. That game is pure joy. I don’t know if any game is more “Nintendo” than WW. Galaxy 2 maybe.

The HD version is better - but missing a lot of the experience now that Miiverse has died.

Fun thread.

First party
Pokemon Souls - an open-world Metroidvania in the Pokemon universe, with Dark Souls-style combat (but maybe a bit easier, like the EA Star Wars game)
Golden Sun: Eternal Dusk - new first-party RPG. Could be either a 3D Monolithsoft special or a 2D Octopath thing, but would need to bring back the puzzle elements of the classic Golden Sun games

Third party
The World Starts With You (Squenix) - prequel of sorts to The World Ends With You, set in Meiji-era Japan. Must make use of every possible Switch gimmick, from gyro controls to the IR camera!
Fallout: New Berlin (Bethesda) - new Fallout, in style of New Vegas, set in a nuclear-ravaged Europe

Ports/Remasters
Trails of Cold Steel 1&2 - need this a double pack. I mean, as we’re getting 3 & 4, it’s maddening to be denied the first two on Switch
Persona 5 Royal/Portable - just get it done, Atlus. We’re fed up with the teases!

Apps
Don’t really care. Maybe Netflix? And Amazon Prime?

Wild Card
Cyberpunk 2077 - if the Switch can run The Witcher III, anything’s possible, right? I genuinely don’t care that much about muddied textures. It won’t be the prettiest version, but I’ll take “good enough“

Nintendo:
New Star Fox - in the vein of Borderlands, FPS/RPG style with character-, weapon- and gear-leveling systems
New Kid Icarus

Third Party:
New Perfect Dark
New Left 4 Dead - local co-op on Switch would be perfect for this

Remaster/Port:
Knights of the Old Republic and KOTOR 2 Remaster package (two in one, I cheated)
TMNT: Turtles in Time - one of the greatest arcade and SNES games ever. Port or remaster, I don't care.

Applications:
New Japan World
.... another app?

Wildcard:
Mario Kart Infinite - New Mario Kart, all tracks from MK8, plus new tracks, new remastered tracks, new battle arenas (as well as some remastered there too). All characters from previous MK games (that they have the rights to), which would add the Diddy, Paratrooper, Birdo, Honey Queen, Wiggler, ROB. Plus new characters that may new be MK Tour, or new all together, such as Toadsworth, Wart, Geno, Spike, Pauline, Kamek. The list goes on.

@ComradeThom Alright this sounds fun!

Two first party Nintendo games:

1. A new Advance Wars game - one of my favorite games on GBA and DS and has largely been forgotten by Nintendo/Intelligent systems

2. A Legend of Zelda JRPG. With a deep story, JRPG mechanics and Zelda herself MUST be a main party member.

Two 3rd party games:

1. A Call of Duty game built for the Switch initially. Not a port of an existing title reworked for the system, but designed fully to get the best performance from the Switch.

2. A new Star Wars Rogue Squadron game - and while we're at it, make it set in the old SW canon, not Disney Wars. (never happen IRL, I know)

Two Remake/Remasters:

1. Fire Emblem Awakening HD. Enough said. All DLC content included.

2. Pokemon Pure Platinum. A Remake of Pokemon Platinum but with all the quality of life improvements we have from later games and still a limited Pokedex but a different mix than we have in SW/SH. And the mixture tailor made for competitive play with support for both 6v6 singles and VGC doubles.

Two applications:

1. Crunchyroll - I watch 90% of all the anime I follow obsessively via CR. Far better than Funimation. (which gets the remaining 10% and only because they have a few shows that CR does not)

2. Amazon Prime Video - purely because they have taken over "The Expanse" TV adaptation. Otherwise I'd say Netflix.

One Wild Card:

Hearthstone or Pokemon TCGO. Kinda cheating here but I would take either happily. I'd be interested in getting back into a CCG and like both of these.

Lets see...
Two new first party Nintendo games:
F-Zero NX
Metroid Prime 4 (if that counts)
Two new third party games
Resident Evil Mercenaries HD DX - Similar to Mercenaries 3D, only with a new engine, and more characters/stages. Possibly a couple of new game modes as well.
Star Wars Rogue Squadron - A canon reboot of the series with vehicles and scenarios from across the Skywalker Saga.
Two remasters/remakes of existing released games
Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal Remake (More HG/SS, less Let's Go!)
Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages/Seasons (with the planned third installment thrown in as DLC)
Two applications (Like Youtube, etc...)
Netflix, Disney+
One wild card which can be one additional game which can fall into any of the previous categories.
Pokemon World - A true open-world pokemon game with a focus on exploration and developing a bond with your pokemon. Gyms can be challenged in any order, but are entirely optional, with the other "stop the new villains" story being the sole main plot. Edit: Also, filling out the pokedex can be done by simply snapping a picture of them, ala BotW.

Cool Idea

Two new first party Nintendo games:
Pikmin 4
Metroid v Starfox - This might rub some up the wrong way but I'd love to see a game with Samus helping the Starfox crew in her gunship and on the ground. Maybe Andross has a bounty on his head or Starfox are asked to take out Ridley or something

Two new third party games
Banjo Kazooie
3D Donkey Kong (I know this could be in the first party bracket but I would want to see Rare do it)

Two remasters/remakes of existing released games
Need For Speed Underground 2. I fired this up on my gamecube recently and the viuals havent held up well at all. The textures are so muddy and the graphics are so blocky, it's hard to see how I thought it looked so good when I was young. The soundtrack is still incredible though.
Motherload. This was an online game that me and a few friends played loads when we were young. If you haven't heard of it, you used a small mining craft on an alien planet to collect ores and precious stones. The object of the game was to upgrade your ship to be able to drill deeper and eventually fight the devil at the center of the planet. It would need a lot of fleshing out to create a decent console game.

Two applications (Like Youtube, etc...)
Theme builder for the home screen - able to upload/download photos and pics to use as a background, File folders etc
A more accurate counter of play time - The whole system of increments of 5 hours really annoys me. Would be great to see play statistics as well like online v offline time or play time over the last 6 months or year.

One wild card which can be one additional game which can fall into any of the previous categories.
Voice chat without having to use the stupid phone app.

I don't usually have much to conjure up with these sorts of things, but I'll give it a crack.

First Party
i) A 3D adventure game, starring the likes of Kirby or Yoshi (a crossover would get me extra giddy), with enticing environments (I'm thinking rich and diverse forestry, fluffy clouds, thick snow that your character half sinks into, lush grassy plains)

ii) Mario Strikers 3 - a much expanded roster of available characters for you to select to fill out your team (no more duplicates), custom characters, custom competitions, and a return to the tone of the original with the awesome goal celebrations and entrance animations, but with slightly deeper gameplay so there's a bit more variety, with each character having their own special move.

Third Party
I struggle a bit for specifics here. Just more open world stuff generally would be great, but to get specific:

i) I'd love Konami to release a new Pro Evolution Soccer game that implements the motion controls they used in the Wii games, whereby you can dribble the ball with one player while simultaneously initiating off-the-ball runs from other players.

ii) Why haven't we got a Formula One game on Switch yet?

Remake/Remaster
I'm generally not a fan of rerelases of games that are from the GameCube/PS2/Xbox/Dreamcast era or later, because by and large those games are still perfectly playable, and most of the ones worth having are already in my collection, so I'd be looking further back than that:

i) Super Cars II - I loved this Gremlin game on the Amiga, but the only versions I've ever had access to have had bugs whereby not all of the tracks loaded properly, so while the original is still fun to play now, it could be cool for someone to update it, add an online mode, get a bit more creative with the tracks and weapons etc.

ii) I can't be bothered right now to think of a personal second choice here, but something that just sprang to mind... it would be nice if Super Metroid was re-released with the controls for wall jumping improved, because the original controls have so far proved a hurdle that I just can't be arsed to overcome.

Apps
i) Web browser, which can be activated very snappily during gameplay. I think the ability to jump to the browser on the Wii U was great, but the load time wanted shortening.

ii) I think I'll be getting the upcoming Colors! app with the pen that plugs into the microphone socket, so I'd really like Nintendo to utilise it too and bring out some more Art Academy stuff, preferably one that incorporates all the beloved Nintendo characters, but this time also offers animation functionality and lessons.

Wild Card
I'd love Nintendo to release a VR game for use with my Labo goggles. I think the Breath of the Wild VR patch was great, but I'd love to see them put out a new full game that's been designed for VR from the beginning.
