I predict the NX is a lamp. It'll be portable, so I can light up things on the go, like if I want to read a book in the dark while I'm camping or something, but also work on my desk, so I can use it at home. A hybrid lamp.

And I will buy it.

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.

Sony would probably have made that N64 CD drive instead of the Playstation. The complete console history would've changed.

What N64 CD drive? Are you talking about the SNES-CD? That deal fell through because the licensing arrangement was terrible on Nintendo's end. Sony decided to enter the console market because of that deal falling through.

I think he was referring to the N64DD expansion, which was a disc drive placed under the main console. It was a massive failure in its own right, but not without some cool things we'll never get (especially for F-Zero X).

They never tried properly. The PC Engine CD proved if you provide the content addons can succeed.

What is the NX? Can anyone answer this question, outside of Nintendo?

I currently own a Wii U and a desktop PC. I have zero interest in getting a PS4 or Xbox One. I have some mild interest in the New Nintendo 3DS, but I tend to favour home consoles in place of handhelds for quite some time, so not very likely.

If the NX is a home console, I might consider getting it. If it is an handheld (or a lamp, lol!), then most likely no. But I don't write blank cheques, they'll have to show me a great deal about it still.

Freeze this thread in time, and let us talk about it in about a year, shall we? Right now, it's way too early. They need to keep delivering the goods on Wii U to keep me happy.

Nothing. We know nothing about the NX except it is tied to Nintendo. I don't think the NX should be compared to PS4/XbOne. Comparing the Wii U to the PS3/360 hurt its image. There are still people who think the Wii U's power only matches PS3/360 power when it is more powerful, just not as powerful as PS4/XbOne

I'm not a peasant. I can afford an NX, and I already have Xbox One and PS4. Not that I would recommend it. The Xbox One has some good exclusives, but the PS4 has a boatload of absolutely nothing.

I wish people would stop it with this peasant crap. So someone can't afford something, why the need to be rude about it?

While that's true, I'd expect it would be released before the successors to PS4/XB1 are even mentioned. So really all you can compare it to are the PS4/XB1 in terms of competition or the Wii U in terms of how much it has improved (assuming the NX is an improvement and the successor which this whole discussion is assuming anyway).

I would have bought an Xbox One by now if the stuff I wanted wasn't ported so quickly to PC. No real interest in anything on the PS4 as of yet. (The main series Dragon Quest might be worth getting one for if it is on that).

The bit I said on the previous page about thinking a GPU upgrade for me at this point is more valuable than a PS4/XBOne? I saw a video going over what the state of CPU utilisation in games was right now. Seems I was pretty much right on the money. They didn't cover GTA5 which is probably the main exception, even then though I believe my GPU is still the bigger bottleneck

So yeah, in terms of PS4/XBOne I was never going to get them now I have a decent PC. Also given the price of consoles, the price of GPUs and the fact that my decent-but-not-insane R9 285 is the thing "holding me back"? By the time the PS5 comes out I should be able to just upgrade my GPU and get a better value anyways. That said, I would likely still get whatever Nintendo's next platform is whenever it comes out because of their exclusives.

tl;dr

  • Nintendo's platform whatever it is? Likely yes for Zelda/Mario/Metroid etc
  • PS3/XBOne? No, I have a PC and nothing over their side of the fence really interests me
  • Next gen Sony/MS? No again, it seems likely that a GPU upgrade in 2018/2019 will be a better value option

Not really comparable as two are current gen consoles and one is some kind of next gen device we know nothing about.... lol

I see it as following the same logic of buying a Xbox 360 or PS3 now because of how massive the libraries are on those systems compared to the XbOne and PS4.

So would you rather have the shiny new box (NX) that is going to get new experiences, or the old box (XbOne/PS4) that has a massive library at a low price, when the NX launches?

We don't even know if it is a home console. The 3DS is getting pretty old, and the Nx might be Nintendo's 9th generation handheld.

Already have a PS4, so that answers that question. I don't know what the NX is yet, so yeah.

All I know is that I will wait until there's games for whatever the NX is as well as the PS5 before purchasing. Got burnt 3 times in a row by buying the 3DS and Wii U at launch and the PS4 about a year in.

May just get the NX and then upgrade my PC. Then again, there's fewer and fewer games I'm truly interested in enough to purchase these days, and I find myself not having enough money or time to play games very much.

Considering the NX probably won't release until 2017 at the earliest, Sony and Microsoft will probably announce their next gen console.

I'll always be a fan of Nintendo, I like the PS2 as it was my first home console I played tons of games. The Wii U is honestly the first home console of Nintendo that I've owned. I've always been a handheld gamer.
I'll definitely get the NX there's no question about that. Probably not at launch though unless it meets two exceptions. It has to have a decent lineup at launch or the coming months, not a year after it's release. If I have the money to spend. However if by some chance the NX is a cross-platform of both their home console and handheld I'll drop the money on the spot. To be honest a cross-platform wouldn't be to outrageous for Nintendo.

Meaningless thread!

Depends on if it's gimmicky and if it's significantly more powerful than the competition. If it's a gimmick and it's about the same in terms of power as the PS4 three years after it launched, I will certainly not get it.

Just wondering, how do you define gimmicky?
