Anyway, it depends on what the NX is, what it has to offer, and how much money I have. Personally, I don't see myself getting a PS4 or XBO any time soon because I'm not that interested in their game libraries and the handful of games I AM interested in, I can get on my 360. The few games that I can't get on my 360 that look cool don't bother me that much because I'm not going to drop $400 for three games.

If the NX's launch is anything like the Wii U's or 3DS's, I'd probably get it. Call me crazy if you want, but I was excited for the Wii U (especially after that E3 sizzle reel) and the 3DS's offerings were interesting to me as well.

Then again, we still don't know what the NX will even be...

I own a PS1, GBA, GBA SP, Wii (GCN), 360, 3DS, PC (Laptop), Wii U, and PS4.
I used to own a GBC, PS2, and DS Lite

Because Sony and Xbox systems have games people want? And there are people who don't want to buy a system sight-unseen before they know what it's going to do and what games it's going to have?

Implying Nintendo systems don't have games people want [/sarcasm].

But no, seriously, look at the Wii U. It had a larger install base than the Xbox One and PS4 for a while (and larger than the Xbox One's for even longer than that), but third parties avoided it because of it's low install base while they built up the PS4's and XBO's install bases (which WERE zero) by supporting them with games.

I mean, we already know what the 9th generation has to offer us before it happens...the PS5 and NextBox will come out and have all of the third party support regardless of system specs, price, peripherals, or E3 flub-ups and the Nintendo console will be...whatever it is.

I actually wasn't implying that at all. I worded my post very carefully. I didn't include words like "actually" or "only" nor did I say it has "THE games people want". I just said the Xbox and PS systems have games people want. Enough that many of them felt the System was worth their while. Because all Spectator said was he would buy a PS or Xbox system so long as it has games he wants, regardless of if he gets an NX.

As for Sony and Xbox getting 3rd Party support, it had nothing to do with Nintendo's library or install base. It had entirely to do with Sony and Microsoft going up to developers and asking them what they wanted, and did their best to accomodate them. They built their consoles to be easy to port. They worked with them to get games ready. And it's heavily implied that there were partnerships and deals all around. They were agressive in aquiring support. And that's what Nintendo needs to do with their next home console.

That's a terrible question to ask. How would I know whether I want an NX at all without knowing anything about it (it's probably a handheld anyway). How do I know if the PS4 and XB1 actually get good games that I can't just play on a 360. How do I know SonySoft won't phase out their system in 2018?

I know nothing. And I'm not some drone who will buy anything Nintendo.

Who says the 3 will even be in the same competing generation? All we know is something will be said about NX in 2016, NOTHING MORE. We don't even know if the NX will be a console or a handheld but considering that Iwata said that he's assuring their dedication to the handheld market, it's most likely a handheld.

Well ignoring for a second the fact that I don't think it'll be a Wii U successor or compete with the PS4/XBOne. Because that's a pretty bold assumption for a start. I personally have no interest in the PS4 or XBOne and I don't suspect I will at any point this console generation.

I have a PC, it has a pretty awesome CPU and a decent GPU. 3-4 years down the road when the PS4/XBOne is cheaper I should be able to throw that money at a new GPU instead. At which point (2018/2019) I reckon the next console generation will be about ready to start and said GPU will probably carry me through a fair bit of that that console generation. And whenever Nintendo release a new console, whenever it is and whether it's portable or not. I'll likely buy it for Nintendo's games. The PC/Nintendo split works well for me and there isn't any information about what's on the horizon for me to change my mind.

Well I love my PS4 so there's that answer, plus we don't even know what the NX is so I can't say right now if it's something I want.

Sales are another big thing, Nintendo was unable to impress with the New Super Mario Bros. Wii clone NSMBU to get hardware sales and then having pretty much 9 months of nothing meant the Wii U was doomed in terms of 3rd party support. They must have a fantastic launch 1st party lineup (both launch day and the launch window!) for hardware sales to be strong and then the 3rd parties will support the Nintendo console thoroughly.

Nope, none of them. When got my WiiU, I thought to myself: "This could be your last console...", and my suspicions were right.
The dedicated gaming market degenerates more and more into a PC/mobile substitute, and games that pique my interest are becoming scarce. XBone/PS4 have nothing interesting for me to begin with (and nothing announced that's even remotely worth getting one), and even Nintendo is losing what I liked about them: straightforward fun and challenge.
As such, the WiiU is my last console. Once its support cycle is over, I'm out. Afterwards, I'll probably dedicate my free time towards getting rare games and older systems.

I will buy any console that says "Nintendo" on it. Wii U is my favourite console this generation by far, although I also love Xbox One. PS4 is also shaping up now that it's got Bloodborne.

So far zero currently announced games for XBO or PS4 have convinced me to buy either.

But you know... at least they have announced games... and are something that tangibly exist...

What's the point of this thread?

Lol I don't support a console, or back one, or invest in one. I just buy it because I like gaming.

The wii U to me has been excellent, and I've never had so many high quality games thrown at me so early on. I like it because games.

I always buy the nintendo system. Whether or not I buy something else is secondary, but usually just the nintendo system gives me plenty of gaming.

Learning Japanese and getting imports. So many great games get stuck in Japan and this is true all the way back to the NES. Going to focus on that from now on. On the plus side PS4 isn't region blocked so gettting an american PS4 is possible. Though I'd like to start importing Nintendo consoles in the future and I guess maybe get an american version if there is some games in America that aren't released in Japan but really what are the odds of that happening? I look forward to the NX because at this point the only system that Nintendo has released that has come close to disappointing me is the Ultra 64...oh I'm sorry, the N64. Still, I had plenty of fun with it even if we didn't get an arcade perfect Killer Instinct. Would have been amazing if Nintendo had gone with a CD based system back then but I kinda wonder if the Playstation would have been able to compete if Nintendo hadn't taken a back seat with the cartridges.

Even though nobody knows what the NX is, I'll state this statement as if nintendo has a new console coming out that will compete with Sony and Microsoft. As I've had every nintendo console to date, I'd buy the next nintendo console regardless, as it's just the system to just play nintendo games on it. Other than that, I own a PS4 for their games, and I'm planning on getting an Xbox One for their games. No matter what, I eventually own all three unless one doesn't have great games. Right now, there's no point in myself purchasing an X-box One, as it only has a few games that I would get, but as I look at my Wii U, there's only a few games that I own on that, where my PS4 is growing stronger (even though I have to purchase a bigger hard drive).

Sony would probably have made that N64 CD drive instead of the Playstation. The complete console history would've changed.

I usually buy one system per generation, but because of the lack of third party support on Wii U I'll buy a PS4 in a year or so too.
Xbox exclusives never interest me and the best things about Xbox One are available on PC and are better on PC too.
If NX is a new console it's going to have to convince me once it's out. I don't buy every Nintendo system just because it has Nintendo games.

NX even if its Nintendo's swan song. Haven't seen anything on PS or Xbox that has captured my interest in some time (last thing I can think of was Banjo Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts and that was a big disappointment, I love the Nintendo polish that you just don't seem to get on the other systems).

What N64 CD drive? Are you talking about the SNES-CD? That deal fell through because the licensing arrangement was terrible on Nintendo's end. Sony decided to enter the console market because of that deal falling through.

Hm...well, I don't plan on ever getting an Xbone, nor the PS4, and I grew up on Nintendo games and am a rather big fan of them, so...looks like the NX is gonna be the one I get. Then again, we don't know anything about it other than it exists, so...

There is nothing here...except for the stuff I just typed...

I think he was referring to the N64DD expansion, which was a disc drive placed under the main console. It was a massive failure in its own right, but not without some cool things we'll never get (especially for F-Zero X).
