Forgive me if this has been asked already but I did a search and nothing like this came up.
Anyway I was wondering with the lackluster Wii U launch, the price drop of the 3DS early in its lifespan will you be getting the NX at launch? Let's assume that we know what it is and all that jazz.
For me I will have to say no. I will probably wait probably six months to a year at the very least. As much as I like Nintendo, with the early price drops and lack of 3rd parties bailing, and even key franchises by Nintendo like Mario Kart and Zelda not coming out at launch in the past my faith in Nintendo launches have been soured. I am going to see how well the NX does and when key games are coming out before I put out my money especially on launch day.
So anyone else feel this way?

I doubt I'll purchase it at launch, mostly because I've never purchased a console at launch. They're usually to expensive and they don't feel that worth it at that point. I'll probably get it a few months after it launches or when I have money.
Yeah... well, highly likely.
It all depends on the launch titles. If it is as lackluster as the 3DS' was, then maybe later on.
EDIT: I'm absolutely not the one buying the system, though. Someone else in the family.
Probably, bought Wii U at launch and have enjoyed it ever since. I do need at least 1 game to sell me on a system (ZombiU for Wii U in case you were wondering) and it is pretty likely for Nintendo (or a 3rd Party) to have a game that I am interested in.
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

I'm not a fan of much in the world of "wants" which leaves me most of the time with money to spend on Nintendo products whenever they come out. So chances are extremely high that as soon as a new Nintendo product is on the shelf I'm in the store day one :]
Yeah pretty much. One way or the next, I know they will come out with at least one game I want to play around the launch window and I'm too impatient to wait for a price drop. That's why I already started saving a dollar every week or 2 for the system and game(s).

Yeah, why not? I love Nintendo and they haven't disappointed me to such a degree that I'd skip the launch of their new console. I'm saving a huge amount of money only buying 3rd party and PS games second hand so I should be able to afford it.
I won't buy the NX until there are multiple must-have games on the system that I want to play. If the launch line-up is superb and has games I'm excited for, then I might get it then.
The last console I purchased at launch was the Gamecube. I prefer consoles to have a good few games on them before I'll buy. When I brought the Wii U it was about a year later when it was on offer - but I've spent a lot of money on accessories for it (high capacity gamepad battery, hard drive, pro controller, sd card, Gamecube controller adapter etc.). I also didn't get a 3DS until after the price drop because there wasn't enough games to make me think it was worth it.
I just hope for Nintendo's sake they have a good few of AAA titles ready to launch with the NX because I want it to be a success, and it's the only way I'll buy it on day one - don't want any gimmicky titles like Wii Sports, we want proper games. I'm assuming NX is going to be a home console though, I could be completely wrong.
Timing and launch library will dictate. If it has good games at launch that will be what makes me want to get it (assuming I'm sold on the console when we eventually learn what it actually is). Assuming all's good on the game front if it launches around the Christmas period when bonuses are paid, then I'll definitely get it. If it launches nearer the beginning of the year (January - April) when things are a bit tougher, then it will just have to wait a bit.
I say no now, but I'll probably cave once I know what it is and am hyped up for it. If I wait a year or so, then I can save up some money, then enjoy the launch titles at a quicker pace while refraining from buying those titles I buy just because there's nothing else to buy. Knowing me, though, I'm probably going to hear about some launch title I can't resist. I mean, it's not like I've ever been disappointed by any Nintendo system I've ever bought, so I don't think I have to worry about regretting my purchase.
Isn't that like a year too early to ask that question? We barely know what the console will be like, and the only game announced for it is Dragon Quest XI and that's not even completely confirmed since it still under consideration.

I am mainly wondering based on the launch of the Wii U and the early price drops on the 3DS.

Assuming the NX is totally awesome, it will be a question of (1) what is my Wii U backlog like, and (2) what are the launch titles. If the NX launches with MK9, for instance, it will be hard to resist. But since it makes little sense to launch a game with such a huge online presence until the console is established and in many homes throughout the world, I doubt that will be the case. So I will likely wait one holiday season . . . .
