Topic: Will we get: Super Paper Mario NX?

With the popularity and success of Fez shouldn't we expect a fully-rotational "Super Paper Mario" title?

Super Paper Mario is my favourite Mario and I'd love to see a sequel, especially if it were fully rotational.

Captain Toad Treasure Tracker is kind of close, but not quite the same.

@SuperPaperLuigi: Is Fez still popular? It came out a while ago

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

I'm not sure how it's selling now? but it's an amazing game and Super Paper Mario for the Wii seemed to be well received.

Both those are older games, Nintendo probably isn't looking at those games for future project insperation. They could be, I just think it is unlikely.

I would love a sequel to SPM. The gameplay wasn't the turn based we loved but at least it was unique and interesting enough to stand on its own. Plus you actually gained levels that made a difference in fights, unlike certain other games. It also had some of the best writing of the franchise, in my opinion.

Just makes me more upset whenever I think about it and realize we're getting yet another Sticker Star

I'd like to see it re-booted with HD paper graphics, maybe with an origami them. I think that would be fantastic. But yeah, it feels like an old game but that's just because it's an old game, if it were re-booted the game-play could really be polished up.

The way I see it is it's just Nintendo's Fez waiting to happen. It wouldn't surprise me if Super Paper Mario was actually the inspiration for Fez. But I guess Nintendo have enough to be going on with.

In the Iwata Asks about Sticker Star, a developer said that he hopes "Sticker Star will become the new standard for future Paper Mario titles."

I think his wish came true. I doubt we're going to see a regular Paper Mario or even SPM again.

He probably hoped it would be the new standard because it's a million times easier to write yet another Bowser story with nothing but paper toads to design than actually put effort into a well written story and a variety of character designs.

Always wondered why this game didn't come to the 3DS to be honest. 3D visuals + the perspective flipping stuff would have worked pretty well.

But I wouldn't mind a Super Paper Mario game on NX. I mean, got to be more interesting than Colour Splash, right?

I'd like to see it on 3DS. It would be cool if it flipped between stereoscopic 3D and 2D every time you switched perspectives in the game. That would really be something.

I think it would need an overhaul and a re-balance though. Some of the design decisions re. the recipes and placement and provision of (and format of) the recipe lists blows my mind for how sketchy and under-developed it all is. Also, the inventory is punishingly restrictive especially when it comes to capture cards.

There definitely should have been a separate inventory for capture cards and ability to trade cards with NPCs. They could have implemented it so that it would show the effect that getting the card would achieve and that way it could have resembled an upgrade tree.

Also, storing ingredients at the restaurant, seperate to main inventory and with the option to have the stuff "delivered" to the restaurant inventory (instead of having to carry it) would have been really really handy.

Also, when you beat the level and reach each "population centre" they should have given the option to have a pipe built that would take you straight their "commerce zone" that you could pay for by crafting and selling with the ingredients you have (that way it could have been introduced and developed (I was going to say on a much easier lerning curve but to be honest I don't see a learning curve there, just huge uneven steps)) but the recipe stuff was so underdeveloped and confusing anyway that even then it probably would have just highlighted how much of a confusing mess that stuff actually was.

I would have loved a Super Paper Mario where you could 100% catch cards and recipes before the end of the quest. As it is it's a tedious and laborious grind with no discernible learning curve, just huge difficulty spikes and a total headache to deal with due to inventory space and muddled and confusing recipe card formats. It's a shame when you think of how amazing it could have been if they'd been able to developed that stuff more fully.

Edit: They could have made the recipe lists like a tech tree, updated as each new recipe disc is found and shown stock levels on the that tree next to each item.

The card collection could have been like an upgrade tree or maybe just a simple kind of bar graph showing effectiveness against each enemy.

If they'd implemented a bar graph to show effectiveness against each enemy it could have let you free up cards for trade.

There could have even been an option to barter for items using cards, with each card having a basic coin value.

Actually just got Paper Mario Sticker Star and really enjoying it. I love how it's streamlined.

Still would like to see it rotatable, maybe with both sticker and rotation mechanics, but really enjoying it.

Much less text in this one also. Super Paper Mario started off fun but by about half way I was just trying to forward past the dialogue as fast as possible.
