Topic: What sort of new ideas would you like to see in the NX?

This could be on in the hardware or on the operating system. Just any ideas that we haven't seen done well in old and existing consoles from anyone (including Sony and Microsoft).

One thing I think could be interesting would be for Nintendo to integrate pressure sensors into their next controller. If they combine this with something like ReactiveGrip (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uD3hhIYr1f4) and you could have a truly immersive experience.

On the software end of things, I think it would be really neat if Nintendo could partner with YouTube to create "Game Indexing". With this feature, Let's Players, streamers, and even text-walkthrough writers would be able to create indexing locations in their guides, such that players can directly navigate to the point they are in a game. So let's say you are playing Mario Galaxy and you want to check out Chuggaaconroy's LP of Battlerock Galaxy. If Chuggaaconroy indexes his LP, you can switch panels (assuming the system has multitasking) and go directly to the point in his guide where he is playing Battlerock Galaxy.

Honestly, I'd like for them to continue the idea of asymmetrical gameplay, with or without the gamepad.

@iKhan: a controller with pressure sensors sounds pretty cool. Seems like something new but wouldn't overly complicated game development.

I'd like the kind of new ideas that go into games, not the kind that go around them like so much garnish.

Namely good Zelda puzzles, Metroid worlds, RPG stories, etc.

Don't hate me because I'm bnahabulous.

Less gimmicks please. Make the console robust and easy to develop for, keep the novelty to the games and developers discretion.

New consoles still need new features. They can't just be purely spec upgrades, or they don't really seem all that new. That doesn't necessarily need to be hardware though. It can be software as you see with the PS4 and XB1

@iKhan: Have to disagree somewhat there. New consoles have been finding success based on spec upgrades for decades, it does work and if anyone's in need of a decent spec upgrade its Nintendo. That said, I do agree that new features can come with software but I don't think Nintendo need to focus too much on that with the NX just yet. Start with robust, impressive hardware to generate the initial consumer interest (e.g. "new processors allow the upcoming Zelda to be five times as larger as before"). Make it easy to develop for to attract third parties (which again appeals to consumers).

And then, once that initial interest base has been won, think about ideas like what you said in regard to YouTube. Heck you could even add them a year after launch (just like Sony is still doing with the PS4). I think that the initial push with any new console or handheld should be to appeal to the gamers first (core consumers) an THEN go adding features over time to improve non-essential functions.

Specs are reaching a point of diminishing returns at this point, it's gotten to the point where you can't even tell the difference between a past gen game and a next gen game now, so upgrading the specs is a waste of money. Nintendo has the right idea with the integrated framework, it makes it easier to develop for their consoles without breaking the bank and they can simply create a new device to work with their framework when they need the extra power instead of dumping everything and starting from scratch.

@Bolt_Strike: As someone who owns The Order:1886 (and willing to admit it- ha), I respectfully disagree. If this gen has the capability to produce graphics on that level consistently (and there is no reason to think it can't, given The Order came out so early in the cycle), there is going to be a HUGE difference in graphics capability, assuming you are looking at games that are going for ultra-realistic graphics.

Seriously. Some of the stuff in that game is amazing (for a console).

There's one new idea I'd like to see. If you have an NX portable connected to your NX console, developers have the option to use the hardware processing of the NX portable and the NX console, and pool them into one hardware resource. For example, say the NX portable has 4GB of ram, while the NX console has 8GB. In "Cross-Proccessing" mode, 4 + 8 gives you 12GB of ram. Now apply that to GPU, and CPU. This allows for bigger worlds, better visuals, and more stuff on screen. Again this is a mere option for developers, since they would also have the option to scale their games based on various "hardware levels" which depend on the incarnation of either the NX portable or the NX console.

I'm not sure how they can make this work, in fact, I'm not sure if it's even possible, but it would be awesome if this could happen.

It's no secret that I like the idea of streaming games to other devices. The Wii U can stream its games to the GamePad, and it works fantastically. On PC you can stream games to another PC, an NVidia Shield if you have an NVidia card and soon to Steam's micro-console like thing. On the PS4 you can stream to the Vita or to the Vita TV. Then there's the XBOne where with the launch of Windows 10 you can now stream its games to your PC.

So I hope Nintendo's next home console continues to embrace this trend. Maybe by supporting the GamePad for off-TV play and Wii U Backwards Compatibility as an optional accessory. Hopefully also with support for streaming to their next portable system. It's not "new" but, I hope it's there.

You forgot the precursor, you can stream PS1 games to the PSP and Vita(and some Sony laptops) from a PS3.

I hope you can stream games in HD to the next Nintendo handheld. Support for the GamePad (streaming) should be there, but not a major focus. The GamePad only sold 11-15mil(by the time NX is released) and if Nintendo wants a larger audience for the NX you can't expect people to own one as you can't buy it.

We don't need a new GamePad/very expensive main controller that can't be bought seperately either. We need replaceable controllers(with analog triggers) and access to the system menu's with all controllers. Sticking with the idea of replaceable parts, why not make the whole console a modular system where every part can easily be replaced or even improved. That would stop the need of replacing the whole console if a part breaks and you could just replace a few parts with their upgraded ones instead of bringing out a second generation like the New3DS. It will be much cheaper and future proof this way.

@SuperWiiU: Well they did the same thing with the Wii U and Wii. If you wanted to play Wii games on your Wii you had to buy the controllers and some games even used those controllers. If you wanted to play Gamecube games on your Wii you had to do the same. All I'm saying is that for their next home console it'd be nice if it supported the GamePad. If only for off-TV play and backwards compatibility. As a purely optional "sold separately" sort of thing.

I don't want them to reinvent the wheel. They just need to deliver 3D 1:1 one-handed motion controllers with analog sticks. The only other step forward in controls is a glove or non-wearable finger tracking system.

I want Nintendo to look at this next interface from the perspectives of immersion and superiority. Is it more immersive? Does it improve your performance? Does it allow the player to interact with the environment in new ways that are impossible with buttons.

Anyone have ideas for OS and other non-hardware elements?

More improved gamer notes?
You write, type, or type what ever in the mini app, and it can be reviewed during gameplay with some type of button maybe. It's probably something barely anyone will use, but it will maybe be convenient for puzzle games, score keeping, fake tournaments, or even games like monster hunter, where you list the amount of materials you need to get this or that.,

Here's an interesting idea if they have a touch screen or touchpad: Drawings in gamer notes. Now, you can take a screenshot and draw on it and turn that into a note.

A) I think a Youtube feature for gamers to record, edit and stream their own gameplay videos would be very attractive. I'm not just thinking about "let's players" though. For example, when a big game releases - say Splatoon - Nintendo would organize a competition where players are asked to make their own "trailer" for the game. The best trailers get free crap like, I dunno, exclusive amiibos (?) but in the meantime you have basically flooded Youtube with cool trailers made by players = free advertising.

B) A new WaraWara thingy. One where the Miis aren't actually trapped in a white existential dimension of eternal void and pain. Something more lively like Tomodachi Life. For example an island - and the Mii in your friend list all live in the Tomodachi Condo. When they are online and playing, you can see them from the window playing the console. When they are not online, they would do things according to their time-zone, like having lunch or sleeping.

C) An attractive menu. I like the WiiU custom icons a-la 3DS, but seriously, what's with the colours? I think the WiiU can handle more than 9 colours, eh?!

D) Bundle a "Maker" pre-installed with the system. I don't care what "Maker" it is - it might as well be New Super Mario Maker or whatever, just make sure it's something everybody could grasp. Then ask all the good developers in the industry to do a level for said maker. Exactly like they did when WarioWare D.I.Y. was released - they called the who's who of the indie industry. Let people understand that it's going to be supported for months to come.

Top-10 games I played in 2017: The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild (WiiU) - Rogue Legacy (PS3) - Fallout 3 (PS3) - Red Dead Redemption (PS3) - Guns of Boom (MP) - Sky Force Reloaded (MP) - ...
