I don't know what this 'convince companies to develop mobile apps' is about. I never suggested anything of the sort. Although it would make sense for it to have access to Nintendo mobile apps.
Apps don't appear on mobile devices by magic. For what you're suggesting to be even remotely realistic they'd need to get developers to support it. And not just game developers. Social media companies, media companies and so on. Which means either being big enough that app developers can't ignore them or running android apps.
And they're not going to open it up to Android apps. It would completely break their security. Which would completely destroy any chance of them getting third party support. Because piracy.

"Don't stir the pot" is a nice way of saying "they're too dumb to reason with"
@dtjive I agree. And with Gamescom happening this month, Nintendo needs to say sooner not later. Though being Nintendo I wouldn't be surprised if they don't even reveal it during the Tokyo Games Show either. Though I still believe that late September it too late to reveal a new console.

@DefHalan judging from leaks likely not. And said to be cartridge based. I'm sad to say halan but looks like you're gonna have to pay and download to play Wii u games on nx.

Will this "NX portable" thing have two screens? Are the DS days done and gone? How is that going to affect games? How will that affect Virtual Console?
We don't know how many screens it'll have. It could be one but it might still be two, I wouldn't be surprised either way TBH. Plus because it's ARM based I don't see any reason why there couldn't be full 3DS backwards compatibility. In theory at least. I wouldn't hold my breath though.
Really all the rumour was clear about was the internal hardware. Which should have enough power to emulate everything upto and including the Wii. So I personally don't mind if we don't get 3DS/DS backwards compatibility. Because at this stage the only system we know it 100% won't have VC/BC for is the Wii U.... and it is getting BotW.

I don't think they should make it run Android or have Android apps. It can have its own Nintendo operating system and just include access to Nintendo mobile gaming, streaming and social media services (e.g. youtube, spotify, netflix, facebook, twitter etc.) and an internet browser (e.g. Chrome).
And I think you're making it seem more complicated than it sounds for that to be possible. Generally, those companies would pay apple/google etc. to have their services on their devices. For example, google paid Apple $1billion to be their browser on the ipad. Also people who sign up to Netflix (or similar other paid services) will give Apple/Google a fee for those who sign up through their device. Why would those services turn down the possibility to be part of a device that would be succeeding a 10m+ (Wii U) and 60m+ (3DS) install base?
Does that mean Nintendo need to have a huge range of apps from the get go? No, it can work on growing that aspect of the device over time but in the mean time it can already fall back on what the Wii U had which was Amazon video (N. America), BBC iplayer, Hulu, Netflix, Youtube etc.
@FragRed Later than E3 was pretty risky in general. I mean the whole point of the BotW focus at E3 was to hype people for NX but by the time the system's announced the hype will be gone, especially with the leak existing and all signs pointing towards true..

Nah there will still be a lot for people to get hyped about when it is announced:
1. There's still a lot about the NX that we don't know (assuming the concept is true)- exactly how the controller works, possibility of motion controls, tablet functionality, specs and processor.
2. We don't really know much about BotW- they can easily get people excited again by revealing a story trailer and a bit more information about the locations and races in BotW
3. What other first-party titles are there at launch (or soon after)?
@Grumblevolcano
Yea, but it's really seeming that Nintendo is going to stick to their guns and not say anything until September. And we need to remember: we're a VERY small group of people on these forums. WE may be feeling a little cagey because we've been hyping this up amongst ourselves for the past 6 months, but most people, even internet dwellers, probably aren't, and so the "wait" until September isn't exactly a wait at all. Most people will probably forget all about the NX until the next big headline on one of the big sites, which will (hopefully) be the official announcement that Nintendo can CONTROL.
1. There is certainly a lot we don't know about the NX, assuming the leaks are true, though be sure it will have motion controls if Just Dance is coming to it. I assume the controllers that detach simple re-attach to form a single unit for when at home. And it will look like the Pro Controller. Just my thoughts.
2. Does such a trailer really benefit the NX? There's 13 million Wii U owners whom are going to be able to buy this games as well. So that trailer alone isn't going to necessarily excite anyone about the NX who already own a Wii U.
3. Since the official reason given by Nintendo to the delay in revealing the NX was because they wanted the first party games to be ready, and being how the NX is mainly going to rely on first party games, these best be the absolute most amazing games in the history of launch line ups especially as the specs for the system doesn't seem to be going down too well across the Internet.

because it is only at most 60? Every device you develop for must be maintained, if it is a fringe system, it might cost more than they earn. It also needs an open development environment, which console owner historically haven't had.
Think about it like this instead, Microsoft have tried to force themselves into the smartphone market with no success despite all their money and resources. Why would Nintendo succeed where they failed?
NX will probably have as much app support as 3ds and Wii U have had. Nothing to brag about. Unless of course they have access to Android apps, either through emulation or native.

Kudos for being a voice beyond the dissonance. We're a small group of people and not significant to the market splash Nintendo will want to make.
Let Nintendo wait it out to the last possible moment. They're not that great at controlling the narrative, at least let them be great at controlling their own timing.
And yes I know apple model but that works for phones because they come out every year. iPhone is announced and released every September. Galaxy S in March, LG G in April or May, Nexus is October, and so on. Every year.

@WebHead That is true, also generally speaking people don't have to pay as much for a new phone as they would for a new console as phones are subsidised by your contract provider. Whereas paying for a new console can quite expensive and when you consider they are a luxury item to many, it makes sense that you want to know well in advance what it is you are potentially needing to save up for.

@FragRed Well in a way you are paying more for your phone than a console, but the phone has more uses than a console. My phone plan doesn't come with free phones but it is way cheaper than what other people pay. So I normally have to pay for my phone and they are getting way too expensive now. I have had my Galaxy S5 for about a year now but it already feels slow. I think if consoles start being released every year than the components they use to make consoles will be of lower quality and won't last as long. We will see what happens but releasing a new system every 3 years with each system lasting 6 years feels perfect to me.
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

@DefHalan at the same time people don't pay the full price right out the gate. Providers charge in monthly installments usually. Do you know someone that bought the latest iPhone unlocked day one?
Edit: I think you're misunderstanding what frag is saying.
@WebHead You can do the same with a credit card when buying your game console. A lot of stores offer you to finance the system too. As long as your bill comes out to about a certain amount (like $500, so the system a game, and a Xbox Live or PSN 1 year membership) you can finance it, just like a phone.

@DefHalan you usually can't right away though and doesn't take away from my point. I'm not saying Nintendo should show it tomorrow but I don't think 3 or so months is really enough time for them or the consumers. Not that I think it'll be in December, just saying for argument.
@WebHead You can finance stuff right away, that is the whole point. I agree that Nintendo and consumers need more time that 3 months. In fact I am starting to join you in the idea Nintendo needs to show this machine off soon. We are almost 6 months out, that is not a lot of time.

Well, we've seen the rumors that the NX reveal would be in the fall. But I have to wonder about its effect on Nintendo's financial health. Nintendo had forecast pretty healthy — if falling — sales for its 3DS portables. But if it reveals a replacement portable machine before the crucial Christmas sales period that is only available in March, people would hold off on buying the 3DS. Sales might fall off the cliff.
If the NX is indeed a competitvely priced portable Nintendo will have to position it carefully so it doesn't cannibalize 3DS sales. Otherwise, its 3DS sales forecast would be rather optimistic.
