I want to get a new 3ds but I'm concerned that within a year the NX will make it obsolete. I have a feeling that it will replace both wiiu and 3ds. What do you guys think?

Don't get a New 3DS XL. It worthless at this point, only being a Xenoblade mechine, and that coming from the person that owns one. Just get a normal 3DS, to save money. The last I heard though was the NX is a console, so it probably won't replace the 3DS, it will probably replace the Wii U though.

Even if the NX makes it obsolete you will still have a catalog of great games to play. Games like Super Mario 3D Land, Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, Smash and a bunch of others depending on your taste for games. Also you will have a bunch of download only choices in the eShop.

I don't think so.

Contrary to rumors Nintendo has not released a console in the summer since it's inception 30 years ago. The very soonest were looking at is November 2016. At the VERY soonest. Which means at the VERY least, you would have another year and a half.

Furthermore I don't think it's going to replace their handheld line. I think it's a home console. I could be wrong but that's what I think.

And finally, even if they stopped making games for it, that doesn't detract from its current library. You could play games for years buying little more than what the system already has on offer. There are a ton of games, GREAT games, on 3DS. And the NX can't take that away from it.

If you're going to get a 3DS though, DEFINITELY get a new3DS. It's only 20 or $30 more, but look at everything you get for that- access to Xenoblade ALONE is worth paying the extra $30. Stable 3D, WAY faster downloads (trust me if you owned an original 3DS you would understand how important this is), CPP buttons built in, amiibo support out the gate... It's a vastly superior design with a whole list of advantages- don't sacrifice that just to squeeze a few pennies extra into your wallet.

You might as well get a New 3DS, especially if you've never played Xenoblade before. The system is also a must if you turn into a Monster Hunter fan.

I bought a N3DS recently precisely for the reason that it might not be around much longer. The DS line is legend, and the unique 3D effect makes it something worth keeping forever. What are you waiting for?

You guys had me at blood and semen.

You should definitely get a 3DS. A lot of great games have been released on it over the past four years, and there's still a lot to look forward to on the system.

Definitely get a New 3DS. The faster processor and c-stick make the "New" model worth it over the original models. The 3DS family has an incredible library of games. Fire Emblem Awakening, Pokemon X/Y and ORAS, Zelda ALBW, Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon, Kid Icarus Uprising, Bravely Default, etc. are all amazing games. There's also a good amount of games to still look forward to as well. You'll get your money's worth easily.

All really great points and perspective. Only one person told me not to get one because Xenoblade is the only game made for it, but I got to imagine more games like it are coming? On the flip side is that the library itself is dense.

So you guys really dig the 3d aspect? Is it really sustainable (for your eyes) for long periods of time?

I might just have to get one, I haven't owned a handheld gaming device since my red gameboy color. decisions decisions.

I've put at least a thousand hours on my original 3DS, and the 3D never gave me a headache or any ill effects past the first day. I can see how the non-face-tracking 3D would bother some, but it never did to me. I always play with 3D all the way up, with very few exceptions.

Now, on my New XL, I love the face tracking. There's a few points where it kind of goes wonky after moving around, or if you scratch your face, but it's otherwise super stable (lol).

The Famicom was released in July 1983. The N64 was released in Japan in June 1996. The GBA was released in America in June 2001 and the DSLite (okay, not a new console) exactly five years later.
Game Boy might've also been a summer release in US.

Considering it will still have the entire 3DS library you can pick from in terms of games as well as the DS library, VC, and DSiWare, I don't think it'd be a bad choice to grab one...especially as cheap as they are now.

I mean, people buy retro consoles all the time...and some of us still have their old systems.

I say go for it.

I own a PS1, GBA, GBA SP, Wii (GCN), 360, 3DS, PC (Laptop), Wii U, and PS4.
I used to own a GBC, PS2, and DS Lite

I just got my N3ds xl. Why do you think it's not worth it? Is it because the problem of noise of the sound? I do notice that there tend to be some noise in sound when volume turned to the max. Could it be my console problem?

Not getting the New 3DS XL would be the worst decision any Nintendo fan could make today
