Nintendo can't "remake" every game from previous eras, they have to get permissions from publishers, then they got to reprogram it, then they got to tweak it so it's the exact same as the original. This is one time "Nintendo quality" is just to much. They should just make emulators and let publishers drop in their roms on the play store (heck, 3rd parties my even download roms of their games off the internet lmao), do some testing, add some icons and a user's manual and done. Nintendo charges a %, and you have a huge ass retro library.

To be fair though there really isn't much "Nintendo Quality" going on the VC at the moment. Emulation isn't as demanding as it sounds. Nintendo have the emulators running just fine (as evidenced by current VC releases) and just need to drop in the rom, add manual scans, knock up a very simple user menu and job done.

What they would need to do for third party developers is to purchase licensing fees again. Personally, I don't see Square making much money out of Secret of Mana (for example) other than the odd iOS port. I mean they're hardly selling original SNES carts on the Square store so if people are playing that version of the game, it's done through emulation or second hand sales. No profit for Square until Nintendo comes along and purchases a licence to put the game on VC, then both companies can get a cut of the profits for very little work in comparison.

What I would hate for Nintendo to do regarding the NX, is to release one or two very bad VC games at inflated prices, then complain that no one is buying these games (due to them being bad and at inflated prices) so that justifies their decision to abandon the concept. Or to just shrug their shoulders and tell gamers to buy a Wii instead because some games are already on there. It's very lazy but sadly, very Nintendo too.

@Jimtaro: The so called "Nintendo VC Quality" I was talking about was some PR stuff I saw where Nintendo was saying that they don't have 1 engien that runs all the VC games (of the same type) and that each game is run individually and is made to run at the same FPS and everything to make it EXACTLY like you were playing the original game on the original system. If that is true, then it's complete overkill. I like my emulators on other systems, they run fine. I also like how I open an emulator for the system I want to play for and it lists all the games... For that system only! I hate having all my VC games as diffrent applications. You end up with several rows of games and sorting through them just gives me a headache. But the folders do help a little.

@Tops: that's the problem I was getting at. Rather than fix issues or give us something new, Nintendo tend to look at the most basic workaround and expect people to adopt it without it being practical.
