If it's a hybrid, I think Nexus is a good name. Console only should be something that talks up performance, like Flash or something. A handheld name should be distinct from previous patterns, too. Portal would be great if it linked to a console.
Animal Crossing in real life would be really pleasant. And exceptionally weird. Why is there a shark in your pocket? Why did you mail me a sofa?
I blog about video game stuff at http://www.shinynewcartridge.com. It might even be worth reading.

They might run into some problems with those names.... Nexus in particular because of the obvious overlap with this media box from Google/Asus
especially given said device has this as one of the big optional accessories
Just asking for trouble
And I'm not sure if Valve would be particularly happy about a game console being named the "Portal". It's clearly a different product and it might be ok but again, asking for trouble. I mean the estate of Philip K Dick wasn't particularly happy about Google using Nexus. And there isn't even a slight potential that people might confuse a piece of Google hardware with a fictional Android. Calling a Nintendo piece of hardware the "Nintendo Portal" is not much better than if you called it it the "Nintendo Sonic" or the "Nintendo Halo"....
I think they might be trying the virtual reality business, but rather than seeing your environment via a 3D camera/screen, it lets you experience everything in your environment for yourself (like the NerveGear?)
If Home Console: Nintendo Kangarū(NK)
if Handheld: Nintendo GameMax (NGM)
i ran out ideas so...
My Top 9 Favorite Games of All time.
1. Judgement
2. Baldur's Gate 3
3. Bully (Rockstar)
4. Person 4 / Golden
5. Sonic Adventure 2
6. Xenoblade X
7. Ape Escape 2
8. Animal Crossing: New Leaf
9. James Bond 007 Nightfire
I think the only name that wont confuse consumers is the Wii Uu
The NX is going to be delayed to Holiday 2017 you heard it here first, also It should be pretty obvious what my favorite game of all time is cough Skyward Sword cough
Console: Ultra Nintendo Entertainment System. Really anything that picks up the NES naming scheme again.
Handheld: Gameboy Evolution. The Gameboy brand needs to return.
And while I'm talking about things that need to return, I would really like to see the red Nintendo logo again rather than the grey one.
It depends on what Nintendo wants to do. If they want you guys to be happy then.....
Home Console: The Nintendo 7 (consumer: ahh, so a new console? And 7 is bigger than 4. All of the things)
Portable: The Gameboy HD (consumer: ahh, so it's like the Gameboy? Not another DS reskin? And it's HD. Cool!)
But given recent history they don't really care that much. So odds are we'll get...
Home Console: The Nintendo if (consumer: huh? if what? who comes up with this stuff? oh... there's a Mario game? cool)
Portable: The New DS (consumer: ...............)
"Portable: The Gameboy HD (consumer: ahh, so it's like the Gameboy? Not another DS reskin? And it's HD. Cool!)"
This is 2015 it would be more like Gameboy HD (consumer: uhh that is the most sexist name I have ever heard of. I am offended. Nintendo gets sued for millions. Nintendo wins case claims that it was a Gamegirl but it changed its mind. The media claims consumers that do not respect it being a Gameboy are a disgrace.)
Since there was a lot of discussion involving "transformation" at Nintendo during the E3 presentation, I would say the console will be named using a word meaning to change or transform.
CONSOLE: I say go back to the Revolution!
HANDHELD: I really like the idea of an HDS!
HYBRID: None, because I feel this is a bad idea...
Using a word like "Revolution" would make it easier for the simple people who thought Wii U was an add on to see that a new system has come out, and it was the original name for the Wii. It has a nice ring to it as well.
I think they'll stick with Nintendo NX or NX if it is a hybrid. My intial impression of NX is that is stands for "Nintendo Cross", which would fit pretty well with a hybrid console or maybe (stretching it) with a handheld.
Majora's Mask = Best Game Of All Time
3DS FC- 2380-2910-9753
Nintendo NX might actually be the proper name, and it's not that bad if you think X stands for "Cross".
Otherwise, I came up with these just out of the top of my head :
Nintendo Neptune
Nintendo Cosmos (or Kosmos, Qosmos...)
Nintendo Insignia
Nintendo Omega
Nintendo Ulysses
Nintendo iKon (imagine Intel Core i series and 4K resolution! derp)
Nintendo Prism
Nintendo HyperCube (the four-dimensional geometric equivalent to a cube, also known as tesseract)
TsrAkt ( or some other styling around tesseract)
(...)
GameCube II (hey, I like this one. Good ol' GCN. Maybe styled as GameCube ][ like the Apple ][ )
Yeah I like what all the people are saying about the Nintendo X, especially for a hybrid console. You'd keep the NX codename but sound a little more official, I guess? And maybe the X would be pronounced as "cross" like street fighter x tekken or any of the other crossovers. This "x cross" thing seems to be a huge craze in Japan.
