The DS was not codenamed Nitrogen, that is a typo, it is actually Nitro. Also, I don't think Nintendo is done code naming their consoles based on the ocean.

There is no way in hell, with Nintendo cheaping out on hardware as they like to do, that the NX is going to be 4K. 4K probably isn't even going to be affordable for Microsoft and Sony for another 4 years, let alone Nintendo.

Fixed that for you.

You really think it'll take that long for 4K resolution to be affordable? I'm not so sure of that. It seems like 4K is creeping closer and closer to being publicly accessible, so I would think in a few years we'll probably see 4K games. We'll probably see 4K games by 10th gen at the latest (maybe 11th gen for Nintendo).

On Sony and Microsoft's end, I don't think it's realistic to expect hardware capable of reliably outputting at 4K for $400 next gen. It costs $1500+ to build a PC to do it now. It's not going to come that far down in price in 4 years. They also seem to be moving towards a digital future, so 4K games will be extremely limited by internet connection speeds and bandwidth.

Developers are still struggling to hit 1080p without noticeable run issues. Budgets are also astronomical and it's barely financially feasible to make AAA games as it is. You can probably find a very long list of developers that have closed down in the last 10 years due to just not being able to adjust to the cost of HD development. That's why publishers are always coming up with new ways to get you to pay $100 for a game at launch, like CD Projekt Red did today or 2K did in February. The jump to 4K is going to be even more brutal.

And rate of adoption of 4K TVs hasn't been that fast. Analysts don't expect them to be in most American homes for another decade, let alone other regions.

Can Blu-Ray Players display at 4K? Or will I need a new Player or a new Format for that?

That depends. If you mean 4K blu-ray discs, then you'll need to wait for "UltraHD" 4K BluRay. I've heard we'll start seeing that as soon as the end of this year but who knows. If, however, you mean Blu-Ray players that are capable of streaming 4K content, then you can probably get those now but you'd of course need a player that's capable of that. The Xbox One and PS4 can't do either although they'll probably rev the hardware eventually to support streaming 4K content (but definitely not gaming).

NOT ANOTHER MOVIE FORMAT, I just want to be done with all of these formats. I will probably hold off on upgrading for a LONG, LONG time.

My thoughts/opinions/educated guesses on the 4K stuffs.

Within a few years every new TV that's not bargain basement cheap will be 4K. I'd say 2017 will be about equivalent in terms of 4K as 2006 was to HD. And by that I mean "HD only" machines will have a market to the same extent that the Wii did in its first few years. Within the next five years they'll be able to make a console priced machine that does 4K well (too late for PS5). But they're going to shoehorn it in somehow, it won't be pretty. That said 4K will be on Blu-Ray. Current disks and drives support it but you'll need new players that can output and render 4K. The PS4 and XBOne are likely to be such players with a firmware update.

With all that said. I don't think there won't be another disk format war, internet infrastructure is still behind but streaming has almost killed disks anyways. By the time 4K capabilities are as commonplace as 1080p is now a lot more people will have 50Mbps+ connections. Service providers and companies like Netflix will build up their services to cater for those higher bandwidth services. There will still be a market for disks, particularly 4K disks, in the same way that there is still a market for CDs and records. But there just won't be enough of a market for a HD-DVD/Blu-Ray fight.

I quite like the name Nintendo NX, or just NX, but being a codename it's unlikely they'll keep it, although they did stick with Nintendo DS and Nintendo 3DS after announcing them as temporary product names.

Want an example of some being a placeholder or name and being added? Kirby. He was originally a place holder for a main character. Sakurai grew fond of him, and the model for kirby was born. I think the same thing will happen here. I agree, The Nintendo NX sounds amazing, and I think nintendo will grow to like the name, and keep it.

I really hope they decide to stick with it. NX is so simplistic and straightforward yet encompasses that bridge being built between their handhelds and home consoles. Plus, it just sounds cool. I really can't imagine that they'll come up with something better.

I don't think many think that Wii sounds better than Revolution but Wii was probably easier to market. NX might be difficult to market. Lets see where it goes.

"The true NX't generation experience from Nintendo."

"NX't time, play Nintendo."

"Coming NX't fall... Nintendo's NX't generation system... The NX."

Hrm... None of those sounded good after I said them out loud... Maybe this angle is...too '90s.

NX is waaay better than Wii U for a name, but there are better ones. The NX is just another obscure acronym, and it falls into that cliche of using 'X' because it sounds cool. There are more creative options, like naming it after a star. The Nintendo Vega? Or the Nintendo Gemini, if it's a fusion. Preferably a word, not an acronym. I wouldn't mind Nintendo coming up with a name that's actually relevant to gaming and makes it sound fun, like the Gameboy and GameCube did.

I think Nintendo is trying too hard to have one console name for all regions, and the west gets stuck with whatever Japan decided to use. I'm sure the "New 3DS" sounds more interesting in the Japanese language, where they have a different word for "new."

Got married.

NES and SNES code names are just the real tailor names not in abbreviations. The reason why N64 was renamed from Nintendo Ultra is because the N64 was not really as powerful to deem it that name at all.

If it's going to be a hybrid, or if it's an OS used for future devices (which is what Iwata wants), why not just keep it simple and call it "The Nintendo"? If the devices will more or less share the same library of games, might as well just call it "The Nintendo".

I figured it out. No matter how much we don't like it, it will be called the Wii U2.

Why? Because at Nintendo, the streets have no names to choose from.

EDIT: Wow tough crowd
