I didn't see a thread about this, so I thought I'd start one. Feel free to lock if I'm late to the party.

Apparently this game has been around in Japan for a while, and it's finally available for North America. It's a free to play (microtransactions) strategy/board game starring Pokemon. I've just started the download, so I don't really know how it plays, but I figure the price is right to at least try it out. Has anyone else downloaded this game?

Might look into it, since Go got really boring....then again I'm already playing two other mobile games and they both drain the battery quite a bit. (mainly Yugioh, lol)

I played for an hour and I must say it seems to be good. This was a nice surprise since I didn't get to try the Pokémon Trading Figure Game 10 years ago when it was a thing, since it was too expensive. I just kept playing TCG instead. The mobile version has been in Japan for a year now so it's nice to finally see it come here. The only mobile game I played for an extended period of time was Pokémon Go but this game seems to be much more attractive than it ever was. I can actually see myself playing this for a while. I'd of course prefer it on my 3DS since that's where all my other games are but I guess the nature of this game makes it a better fit for a phone. I'm not going to pay a penny though. I've done great playing Pokémon Shuffle without paying anything and this game will be no different.

I'm watching GameXplain's video....the constant connecting is putting me off. Gonna wait until they fix this....makes everything so ridiculously slow.

I've now played for few hours and so far I like it a lot. It's kind of a mix of chess and TCG. Here are some pros and cons:

Pros:

  • Easy to pick up and play, not too simple but not too complex either
  • Has single player content, seems to be at least as much as in PTCG for GBC
  • The matchmaking seems to work great or maybe it's just that everyone's a beginner since it just launched outside of Japan
  • Multiple ways of obtaining figures and other stuff, no real need to pay to play, at least from what I've seen so far
  • Great variety of figures and attacks
  • Found opponents in matter of seconds when using the play button and the battles work flawlessly
  • The free to play things like microtransactions don't show up constantly, they're there if you want to use them but it's not "in your face" style
  • Good music

Cons:

  • When I first started playing, I got a black screen after the tutorial match and had to restart the game, hasn't showed up since
  • The tutorial tells you very little, should emphasize practice mode more since that's where you actually learn to play
  • A bit too much RNG though it's something you can lessen by leveling up figures
  • Status effects can be really annoying, at least when the opposing team relies on them (some of the practice missions)
  • Sometimes takes a bit long to load something (connecting...)

No one else is playing this game? Seems like I have to just keep talking to myself then...

I've had many connection issues since the first day but it's not enough of a setback to keep me from playing. I love finding new strategies. Had some intense matches today. I encountered multiple teams with legendary Pokémon and other EX Pokémon and I was able to defeat all but one. I don't have any EX rarity Pokémon yet but I do have 3 rares since I got another Skarmory today.

The match I just played was really tough and in the end I had to resort in defending my base with all I got. It was a relief when I was able to defeat Latios and due to its ability, it was out of the game for good. The game ended with a timeout. My opponent's timer ran out while I had 13 seconds left. I love how this game encourages quick decisions.

Another one I had today ended in my favor when I was able to defeat a legendary (I think it was a Genesect) by surrounding it, thanks to my Shuppet which can walk through other figures. And since the surrounded spot was one of the spawn points and the other one was already occupied by one of my Pokémon, I only had to worry about the Pokémon standing on the goal. It was both fun and sad to see my opponent trying to bring in a new Pokémon only for it to be discarded as soon as it spawned since I decided to keep my Pokémon surrounding the spawn point while one of my Skarmory went towards the goal. I could have just walked on top of the spawn point but for some reason it didn't occur to me until after I'd won. I feel kind of bad for that. It was kind of a cruel joke.

I tried it out the other day and had some fun with it, but haven't really had the chance to form an opinion of it yet. The one thing that's definitely keeping me from playing this is the connection issues.

Unfortunately it doesn't seem like many people are playing this. If they had advertised it better and maybe fixed the connection problem, this could have been a hit.

Yeah I'm playing PKMN Duel, it's actually really gud. It is like you say @Late in that it's like PKMN chess. I like how they keep dishing out tonnes of gems, which means that you can exchange then for more 'mon.

It's been out for a week now so I thought I'd share my opinions again. First of all, the connection issues have been resolved as far as I'm concerned. I haven't had any trouble with the game for the past few days. Gems have been plentiful so I've used them on sextuple packs. I'm still yet to find an EX outside of those packs. My current deck is Raikou, Kirlia, Skarmory, Umbreon and double Shuppet, both can evolve into Banette. The matchmaking seems to work great. The battles have been a lot tougher now but I still feel like I have a chance in each match. I've learned to hate Magmortar and its Flame Gun attack. I like when someone uses Latias/Latios in their teams. I've yet to lose to a player with Lati@s since once it's knocked out, it can't get back thanks to its ability Hallucination. It's so easy to win when it's 6 vs 4.

Did you realise that you can manipulate the spinners to stop them in your favour?

Does anyone know how to use monthly points?

HelpPls

Late

@HelpPls Monthly points are a restriction of how much money you can spend in a month. It's just a way to make sure children don't use all of their parents' money buying gems without them noticing. It seems you can still buy gems for hundreds of euros before your monthly points hit zero and once the next month starts, your able to spend money again.

Faced against someone who's in the master rank and lost. I was playing really good. I was one move away from victory 4 or 5 times but my opponent was lucky every time and landed their hit. The stupidest thing is that for some reason my opponent's timer didn't count down half of the time, he played some turns without the clock going down at all, even though he took several seconds to think. I don't know if it was the game or if there was some kind of cheating involved. I doubt I'd won from a time-out either way but it left me a sour taste in my mouth.

The gym event was good but the rewards were kind of lame. Also mawhile, shuppet, and goodra are all good non-EX figures.

First off I did a detail positive and negative youtube review. I would love to have you watch it and then leave your thoughts and comments in the comment section about if you agree or not. now to the reply.

youtube video- "Hate'n on pokemon duel GMVR Gameplay Review" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=itjGlYHns0Y
I was super excited when I found yet another pokemon game on the app store to play. With pokemon go being decent and recently redeeming itsself with it's updates, I thought this game would be the next big pokemon game. The horror on my face after playing for 60 minutes would fit perfectly into a hollywood scare film. This game is terriable. First off, all it is, is a fancy version of chess with pokemon figures no actually having to capture pokemon or go exploring like any of the other games. Second, Pokemon types like water weakens fire doesn't exsist in the game at all. Third It's all a game of luck when it comes to spinning the right moves when attackign or defending. Finally, fourth, your opponent has what's called a "wait-in" where they can block you from spawning any pokemon on to the board and then troll you for who knows how long or end the game in the next turn and you can't do jack-squat about it. Oh and as a bonus, as a gift when they released the game, they gave everyone multiple legendaries. Which means if you are new to the game, your next oppenent most likely has a deck of 6 legendaries and your stuck with 3 rattas, a pidgey, and a pikachu as your best card. I did a youtube review on it to go into more detail. check out the link and leave a comment in the comment section telling me if you agree or not.
