I would like and could the game being like games such as The Simpsons Tapped. You would have a design aspects and with some changes, could fit in things like fishing in minigames. Your villagers would act similar to they do in the main games, but could interact more with the things that you build in your town.
I've pondered this question quite a bit and I always draw a blank. One thing I know is, that it shouldn't be ANYTHING like the main Animal Crossing games. It should be something completely unique! The idea of a full animal crossing games on mobiles, with tons of in app purchases makes my skin crawl and I honestly feel would degrade the franchise.
I'd like to think Nintendo wouldn't be so sloppy with one of their biggest IP's.
Well...
As long there are something that I can do like fishing, planting, harvesting, gathering materials, designing clothes, customizing house, doing request, mining, playing mini games, keep the villagers stay inside your town, etc I will be happy.
But.... let the Switch version does better than Mobile version.
Of course.... must be in HD Open World Style with Sandbox gameplay like Zelda Breath of the Wild.
The game was described in Nintendo's 2017 earnings report for the full fiscal year as a "pure game application" that will "have more prominent game elements" than Miitomo, Nintendo's first smartphone application, which launched in March of 2016. The report also noted that the application would be designed to "be connected with the world of Animal Crossing for dedicated gaming systems", suggesting that the application will offer some sort of cross-title connectivity with existing or yet to be released Animal Crossing titles. When Nintendo's president Tatsumi Kimishima was asked why Animal Crossing was chosen as one of the the first two Nintendo properties to make its debut on mobile, he stated that each property targets a distinct segment of Nintendo's audience, noting that the Animal Crossing series "has been played by a wide range of consumers including children and women.
Some interesting information about the application.
I feel that it will be some kind of town builder with tons of in app purchases unless you want to wait for a day to get things done. Probably not great tbh but I might be pleasantly surprised!
I'd prefer it if they just hurried up and released the next game in the series on the Switch!!
I think that they'll just adapt the Home Designer to phone and most likely expand on the idea. You'll get multiple rooms to decorate and get points by keeping them clean, changing decorations and doing some small minigames where you feed the fish in a tank or catch a wild mouse that's wrecking the room.
They could also add rooms where you do different stuff, such as a shop (buying missing stock, arranging items and cleaning floors), museum (dusting off old paintings, brushing up fossils) or a post office (sorting mail, sendinig packages).
Switch version would be the standard game and this could fill up stuff that just wouldn't fit on the console. They could connect the games and give you prizes for completing tasks in each one - Switch version could give you tokens for Mobile and that would give you furniture or usable items in return.
It will probably be some kind of town builder. You play minigames like fishing or dress up and such. I just want to actually see the game. What's the hold up?

Most likely Fire Emblem Heroes holding up or even picking up pace. I was so impressed with all the updates that I dropped some cash just to support Nintendo, and I'm sure that hundreds of thousands of other players are doing that even more frequently
Not bad idea, but quality of your "product" must be higher of other games like this

This was a very helpful post. I've been looking for news on this and had a hard time finding anything with much takeaway. Thanks!

Hoping we get a surprise release on Wednesday! But more likely they'll announce it'll release later on. I wouldn't be surprised if we got a soft confirmation for AC Switch. No real details, just "hey it'll be able to connect to the upcoming Switch game"
@DarthNocturnal Done! And don't worry about that double post, your previous one was nearly a week ago! It's fine as long as you don't post several times within mere minutes (or seconds!).
Anyway, I always casually enjoy Animal Crossing, so I hope this game plays a bit like the console games.
Part of me is looking forward to this as I always played AC in short bursts (perfect for mobile). However, do hope we get a full experience on Switch. Such a nice game to relax with.
