I genuinely thought, mobile games is where franchises go to die.

I can only see this working, is random generated maps with casual units you gain along the way that you can't interact with, so you feel no attachment, they can die, but get new ones as you play.

Do the 'fallout shelter' thing.
Make a base, it contains your weapons, shops, etc. Gets invaded by enemies, visitors for more units, etc.

It has to be small and basic for Fire Emblem to work. Try and make it like the other general FE's and I honestly think it will become a train wreck.

Ok so you can play it in short bursts. So what? It means this can be done wrong in ways that I can easily predict namely thew word microtransactions sums up the problem.

Everything has the ability to be done wrong. Very few things are guaranteed to turn out well. Just because you can make a list of things that can be done wrong with this idea, doesn't make it a bad idea. Fire Emblem on mobile actually sounds like a perfect fit for most people.

There are both good and bad cases of microtransactions in games. The simple presence of microtransactions in a game doesn't instantly mess the game up. I'm playing a lot of Hearthstone right now and you don't need to spend anything to enjoy it.

It's been said it's a paid game so it's more likely to not have microtransactions than have them.

@DefHalan: I don't mind the idea of FE on mobile As long as they don't ruin the overall experience and go about it the wrong way Many games are recently having this dumb idea of having microtransactions only inorder to make the game profit and it works very well.

Another issue I have with this is how on earth are they going to do this in the long run? How will this work overall and how much of an impact FE will bring to the genre in the mobile territory?

@Socar: Then how about waiting until they do mess up instead of yelling about them because they might mess up? Seeing how we don't even know what the game is, how are we supposed to know if they are going to ruin the overall experience, or even how they would. Also, micro-transactions aren't all bad, it really depends on how they are used.

we will have to see what this is before we can start talking about how it will affect the series in the long run. Right now, I would say it won't affect the series in the long run. This isn't the next Fire Emblem game in the series, most likely it will be a spin-off.

@DefHalan: Honestly, people can't seem to wait and make rants. People still to this day think that E3 matters which doesn't anymore unless you're rich enough to waste tons of cash for just booths alone.

I don't see the point of E3 because Third parties can save money by simply doing what Nintendo is doing which is hosting digital stream instead of live stream. Yet people don't realize it.

I'm paranoid because while I know all this is just to make an experiment on the mobile market, the fact that Miitomo had 10 million downloads in just a few months is itself shocking enough that they might not make anymore handhelds anymore and just move to mobile.

Paid games really can't work on phones unless you're going for IOS which many can't afford and that's something Nintendo won't do alone so they have to do the free-to-start model for these games which can ruin the experience if done horribly.

I mean look at the constant backlash that Splatoon is getting alongside for the Smash DLC as people simply hate the way that Nintendo puts DLC and Amiibo in games. What makes you so sure that same formula isn't going to happen on their phone games?

Besides, even if I'm interested to get it, I probably won't be able to get it since its going to be region locked like Miitomo.

@Socar: Your right, we have no information on any of this and it is just blind speculation, But we should be freaking out about it and claiming it is already a failure. Lets all move on to other companies because Nintendo is doomed. Thank you for explaining this...

You're one of those people and easily the worst person to do so on this forum. For example you've gone straight into complaining about E3 out of no where.

Also can I ask why you think that last point? At what point have Nintendo even suggested this?

Rants aside, where has it been said that it's a paid game? I recall Nintendo saying that they were following the free to start model with these releases. Have they changed their mind about that?

Ah my bad, I looked for the quote til I realised it was just someone extrapalation about FE being a more traditional game.

Now I wonder.....How many downloads can this game make?

I mean, FE isn't really a big seller for Nintendo because its a series that can only reach a million units. Its not capable of selling 5 million and all and Its just as notable as Metroid.

What if this game fails to get the million download that it needs? What if the game simply isn't good enough that the series will be cancelled?

You think that now, after the success of Awakening and Fates, the same games that made Nintendo consider Fire Emblem a major franchise, that they'll cancel the entire series over a mobile app?

A) not happening
B) advertising through Miitomo about their new app will probably get them a few downloads.
C) People might not own Nintendo systems but be interested in the series, now they can check it out. I think Fire Emblem Mobile downloads will be impressive.

@DefHalan: You know....I can be more optimistic if Nintendo did something like Pokemon Picross where once you buy all the picrites, you don't have to pay anymore of them. Either that or that this should be done like DLC instead of in app item purchases.

I simply can't understand how Nintendo quickly claims FE is an important franchise when only two games have done well. Metroid also sold well so how is that not on the phone instead?

FE isn't a 5 million seller. Its just one and its only going to have 1 million downloads if at all it does it right? And how they do it right is really the problem here.

Good point cancel Fire Emblem, Metroid and Nintendo in general just to be safe.

We still don't know their business model for FE. For all we know it might be a small training campaign for free, and then selling new campaigns for $10 each. How about giving them the benefit of the doubt instead of building straw mans you can attack? You can always come back and rant when we know their business model.

Socar wrote:

Because FE can easily be converted to the control scheme of a smartphone. It is basically click on unit, move unit, click on unit to attack. While platforming has never worked on phones thanks to their lack of buttons. Or do you think people would be happy with a metroid endless runner?

So why not test to see if their generic fantasy themed game can do better on smartphones? If it does, great. If it doesn't, they can always fall back to portables where they know how much sales they have. It is quite risk free.

Personally, I am glad they brought FE to smartphones. I will probably not buy fates when it comes to europe, since I don't have any interest in portables anymore. But I do have a smartphone, and having more games in my favorite genre on it would be great.
