@Xenocity: I mean, as true as that is, rehashes sell well. I'm sure a lot of people like that about Twi Pri. It's always on the top of favorite-Zelda-game polls, along with Ocarina of Time.

So sales and metacritic invalidate criticisms?

@LztheQuack: You should make sure you understand a post before responding. I was not saying that people who criticize the game are not justified, I'm saying that they do not represent the majority.

I'm siding with @Storytime7 on this one. Everything that exists will have criticism, that's because all things are subjective in terms of acceptance and enjoyment. Flaws exist in the eye of the beholder, and in the end a good game can only be considered good using statistics. The only thing in this world that substantiates any meaning or validity is evidence. Opinions won't move the trial along without proof to support them. Thus, criticism is worth about as much as the dust coating your bookshelf. Evidence on the other hand... evidence is everything.

The original point that was made was that "(Xenocity) thought that nobody likes Twilight Princess." So I feel like sales, polls, and general trends are more relevant than individual instances of criticism.

No they didn't

It was widely criticized by fans and gamers for being OOT 2.0 and lacking originality.
It's most famous nickname is OOT rehash.

sarcasm Yeah... Twilight Princess is widely criticized and slapped around even though the game has a huge fandom for MIDNA and anything related to her!!! end sarcasm Twilight Princess isn't widely criticized... AT ALL. A vocal minority think its garbage. OOT rehash? Did we play the same game???

I own a Wii U and 3DS. I also own a PS4!

Well there was the Forest Temple, the totally-not-Fire Temple...cave, and the Wat...Lakebed Temple

Totally a rehash...at least in the first half in places. I hated the first half anyway because it was so sluggish and boring. The second half was much better

@Nicolai:
I wasn't being literal...

Some poor soul(s) ended up being the the unfortunate one(s) who liked the game when it launched

@Blast:
Nintendo openly acknowledged they address all the criticisms they received regarding Windwaker, thus created Twilight Princess.
Wind waker's two main complaints were the game deviated too far from the OOT formula and was too open world.

Twilight Princess focused heavily on using the OOT formula, being too linear and direct.
The Gamespot review sums it up perfectly:

Objectively speaking, it's still a little disappointing that the series hasn't evolved much at all with this latest installment. You'll almost certainly enjoy the game for its terrific puzzles, colorful characters, and compelling story, but at some point the feeling of nostalgia crosses the line and holds this game back from being as unbelievably good as some of its predecessors. So as impressive of a game as it is, Twilight Princess seems like it could have been so much more with a few presentational updates and more effective and interesting uses of the Wii's unique control scheme. But even without those things, Twilight Princess is a great game that stays extremely true to the Zelda franchise's past. That's excellent news for fans of the series, who'll find in Twilight Princess a true-blue Zelda game with updated visuals, some new twists, plenty of challenging puzzles, and a faithful dedication to the series' roots.

The criticisms of the game were those points and people demanded the next Zelda "shake things up".

Nintendo stated they took those criticisms of Twilight Princess to heart when making Skyward Sword.
Nintendo openly admits they take criticism against each Zelda title to heart when making Zelda games.
They also stated they are well aware of the Zelda Cycle.

The rage was the strongest on NeoGaf, NSider, NSider2, IGN forums, Gamespot forums, Facebook and Myspace,
If Twitter was matured then, it would have been there too...

No one is saying the games are bad, just divisive at when they are the new game in the series.

The NPD Group defines a core gamer... See Nintendo isn't part of the "hardcore"/core gaming group according to NPD data.

The irony... it hurts. We originally thought we was derailing this thread with our Twilight Princess discussion but now its looking like Twilight Princess HD is what the YouTubers were hinting at....

MAKE A NEW NINTENDO DIRECT ALREADY!

I hope that's not it. What if it's just a Wii Virtual Console game? That would be so anti climatic.

Having a new icon for TP and Twilight Princess HD literally in the Eshop data highly suggests this isn't just a VC game. I'm very torn on this.

So wait. You're telling me Twilight Princess will be available for 3 generations in a row? Couldn't they give it a rest for one generation before remaking it? This feels too soon.

If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.

There is no icon for ''Twilight Princess HD'', there's just an icon for Twilight Princess, it's literally the same as the box art from the original game. Wind Waker HD had an original icon, they didn't just copy and paste the old box art to the eShop. The only things that's missing is the ''Wii'' banner above the icon, but it could be very well that the Wii banner is a separate image that overlaps the Wii game icons. If it means anything at all, it will be a Wii release of Twilight Princess.

Technically, since the Wii U is backwards compatible, it's already available this generation. A release of the Wii version on the eShop would be conform with the other Wii titles that have been made available online.

I'd like an HD remaster but kinda expecting a rerelease of the Wii version. :/

For better and for worse, the Zelda fandom literally buys anything Zelda related. I'd love a Twilight Princess HD remake too but I feel like its too soon and that it should be saved for the NX as a launch game. In other words... Nintendo doesn't care about the criticism they will face when they announce Twilight Princess HD for Wii U. They know the Zelda fanbase will throw money at it regardless. Meanwhile, Zelda U is somewhere crying because it's alone.

I hope with all these rumblings recently that it means we're getting a direct or some form of communication from Nintendo soon
