Castlevania Rebirth made it to WiiWare from a Gameboy port. So I don't see why Metroid 2 "Return of Samus" doesn't have a chance at a rebirth on WiiWare. I'm mean it's already conveniently in the title "Return of Samus". I wouldn't spend a dime on another 3D installment, after Other M.

Castlevania Rebirth was a complete overhaul of the original. "Metroid II Rebirth" isn't the kind of thing that Nintendo would do, especially on WiiWare. If they do anything at all, it'll be the original on the eShop.
And why wouldn't you buy another 3D game? Yeah, Other M is terrible, but series has an outstanding track record.

@Rift I know Castlevania Rebirth was redesigned, I wouldn't just expect a straight port of Metroid 2 of course. I wouldn't pay for just a direct WiiWare port of the game. I wouldn't buy another 3D installment not just because of Other M, but I really don't care for FPS. And why is Metroid 2 Rebirth something Nintendo wouldn't do? It would fill one of the small gaps in the console entries, the other being Fusion. Prime Hunters wouldn't count as it made it's appearance in a different form on the Gamecube.

When I said Castlevania Rebirth is a complete overhaul, I meant they did a lot more than just remaking it. Nearly every aspect of the game was totally re-imagined from scratch. If Nintendo was going to spend that amount of resources on a Metroid game, there's no way they would release it on WiiWare. If they released the GameBoy game on the eShop instead, they could put those resources to work on something profitable.

I absolutely hate FPSs, but Metroid Prime is everything that was good about Super Metroid represented flawlessly in 3D. It's not really an FPS, either. Besides, the next console Metroid won't be anything like the Prime games or Other M.

Nintendo has never done anything like that before with their WiiWare service. ~Other companies? Yes.~They're not going to start now and they're definitely not going to do it with something as high profiled as Metroid...
Not so fast. Metroid is apparently 26 next year on August. Until then, the franchise is 25 and therefore can get an anniversary until then
And if there was one man other than Rift I couldn't agree more with, it would be that man^^.

Thanks lzbirdboy. I hope the message got across now. I wouldn't have had any other or better way to explain it.And just to make that sure, i didn't mean to come off impolite, WiiAboutU. I'm sorry if it felt that way.
Anyway today Metroid got an early present in form of a hub page. I hope that's a sign of more things to come.

Yup, at least Nintendolife is doing something to celebrate Samus's 25th...

As has already been said, Metroid is celebrating its 25th anniversary until August 5, 2012. Just because something hasn't been announced right this minute doesn't mean it isn't going to be celebrated. Zelda's 25th anniversary won't end until February 2012 so don't expect Metroid to gets its turn until then.

To be honest, I'm not surprised they skimmed over it. Poor Metroid was up against the Legend of Zelda, and we all know how much Nintendo likes to parade around their damn elf kid. It's okay, though. If Nintendo doesn't want to do it, then we can do it for them.
