this is kind of sad. mario and zelda both get special attention from nintendo to celebrate their anniversaries while metroid is pretty much forgotten. obviously other m's rough reception is part of it but metroid has always had trouble remaining as successful as the other 1st party franchises; almost all of the japanese made games have done poorly at retail except zero mission and fusion. super metroid barely got greenlit and still couldn't sell even after being hailed as one of the (possibly the )best games ever made.
regardless of the sales the quality is still there. you can put super metroid and the prime series up against ocarina of time or super mario world or any other classic nintendo titles and they match up to any of them. nintendo's practically sending a message that it's not worth acknowledging metroid's anniversary simply because it hasn't generated as much money as mario and zelda have.
anyway, am i the only one bummed out about this? they could at least do something as simple as throw zero mission up on the 3DS virtual console, or failing that come up with a retail compilation with all the game boy metroids on it.
and no, this isn't an invitation to argue about other m. if you didn't get it out of your system last year, tough!

That's kind of cool.
